It is snowing like crazy here in South-Central Alabama!!! Having spent a good portion of my military career in Northern/European climes, I have seen my share of the white stuff, but it sure is coming down hard here now.

This is really a heavy snowfall. Got about 2 inches on the ground right now. Flakes coming down are very heavy and thick. Lot's of Gulf moisture coming up to feed this, and it's only 29 degrees here in Montgomery, Alabama.

I grew up in Montgomery and remember an occasion when it snowed two or three inches. It was pure panic - cars abandoned in the middle of intersections - everything closed for the day. I'm in Dothan now and wouldn't mind seeing a bit of the white stuff myself. Thanks for the report.

Now I'll definitely have to watch the news tonight. Always good for a chuckle when us snow-birds get to see the southern states get hit with a rare snow storm. 8)

I'm in Raleigh, NC, and we're going to catch it later this afternoon / this evening. Expecting several inches; hints that it could stall out over our area. Last time this happened, they told us to expect 4 - 6 inches (almost exactly 2 years ago).
We got 21 inches.

Fairly heavy here in the Phenix City/Columbus GA area also. The roads are still clear, but all of the schools and most businesses are closed. They expect 2-4 inches here, but if the temp keeps dropping I think we will see more.

Isn't it great!!!!! About 2 1/2 inches here at the house in East Montgomery, and it is still coming down!!!!
And yes all you snowbirds -- go ahead and laugh -- THE ENTIRE CITY OF MONTGOMERY IS SHUT DOWN ALREADY!!!! LOL! Even my office on Maxwell AFB is shut tight (mission essential personnel only are to report for duty)
But please realize this is a totally rare experience here! The last snowfall in Montgomery was THE BLIZZARD OF 1993!! It dropped (drumroll please) 6 INCHES - Montgomery was paralyzed for 4 days!!!!
Oh well - at least I get an extension of my New Year's holiday! WOO HOO!!!!!!

That's what we were talking about here in the office. The newscasters on WRAL always get it wrong. And considering it's coming from Atlanta like all our big snowstorms do, I'm looking for 8 to 10 inches of snow

*grins* Something similar happened to my hometown of Louisville KY in Jan 94. They told us 'an inch or less'- we got 17 in. Practically shut down the whole damn city, and I was in HS at the time in a rural part of the state about 30 miles southeast from Louisville. We were out of school for (no lie) TWO WHOLE WEEKS!
I'm now in the Norfolk VA area and the forecasters here are saying something around 5 in by Thurs night. IF that's the case I'm kinda afraid to drive around here. I've heard some real horror stories about how people drive in snow here.

Wow. I hope it snows here (Central Florida). I recall watching it snow here one time. The snow would disappear before it touched the ground tho.

Here, just north of Charlotte, we are awaiting the arrival of the snow later this afternoon/evening. Very cold and damp here right now.

Hey HiJinx, what a small world! I also live in Tallassee! I say Montgomery only because most folks haven't heard of Tallassee. I live out on Highway 14 going towards Wetumpka at the bottom of Godwin Hill (right West of Johnny G's and the giant pig).
