I am not sure when the people of Egypt became more worldly than the people here in America but it would seem they have it figured out. Betsy Hiel tweeted a picture of a banner that has been hoisted in Tahrir Square that reads “Obama Supports Terrorism” in both English and Arabic. The banner has been placed in preparation for Sunday’s scheduled protests against Mohamed Morsi and The Muslim Brotherhood. GOP Rep. Jo Bonner is resigning after a decade in Congress to take a job at the University of Alabama, he announced Thursday. The congressman said he would leave the House by Aug. 15 to become vice chancellor of government relations and economic development at the University of Alabama System. Bonner’s sister, Judy, is the president of the university’s school in Tuscaloosa.

Pushing back against the Obama administration’s call for stricter gun control laws, Republican Sens. By our count - and the day is still young - four Democratic U.S. senators have flipped on gay marriage in the past few days. Senators Jay Rockefeller, D-W.Va., and Mark Begich, D-Alaska - have joined Senators Claire McCaskill, D-Mo., and Mark Warner, D-Va., in renouncing their previous opposition to gay marriage, just since Sunday. They follow, of course, Hillary Rodham Clinton and Sen. Rob Portman, R-Ohio - still the only Republican senator to endorse gay marriage - to flip as the Supreme Court takes up the issue today and tomorrow.

Senate Banking Committee Chairman Tim Johnson, a South Dakota Democrat, does not plan to run for re-election when his current term ends in 2014, sources close to the matter and key Capitol Hill staffers said on Monday. Johnson, 66, joined the Senate in 1997 and has been widely expected to retire at the end of his term. He plans to make the announcement on Tuesday, the sources said.
