President Bush began the day by meeting with senior members of Congress, who later announced that there will be a resolution regarding Iraq before the elections. Bush then met with a group of cancer survivors, including Tour de France winner Lance Armstrong, and announced an increase in cancer research funding. In an effort to improve students' knowledge of American history, increase their civic involvement, and deepen their love for our great country, President Bush began the announced this morning new History & Civic education initiatives in public schools. Bush later headed to Nashville, Tennessee to campaign for Lamar Alexander, and to attend the Pledge Across America event at East Literate Magnet School. President Bush went to Davenport, Iowa today and gave a speech to at the Sears Manufacturing Company, stressing the need for budget discipline and fiscal restraint in Congress, and calling upon them to pass responsible spending bills for the coming fiscal year. President Bush headed to Iowa today to stump for Republican candidate Jim Nussle. Bush also toured the Sears Manufacturing Co. in Davenport, and spoke to workers regarding the war on terror as well as other items on his domestic agenda such as education and fiscal restraint. The President also received the Theodore Roosevelt Medal of Honor, presented to him by Theodore "Tweed" Roosevelt, the great grandson of President Theodore Roosevelt. President Bush met with Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi at Camp David today to discuss the war on terror as well as the Iraqi situation. Berlusconi stated, 'We'll never forget the fact that about a half a century ago, through the sacrifice of so many young Americans, Italy and Europe were saved from totalitarianism. I consider the flag of the United States is not only a flag of a country, but is a universal message of freedom and democracy.' Bush thanked him for those comments. President Bush met with Central African Leaders today in New York City, and took the opportunity to answer a few questions from the media. Responding to a question from the press, Bush launched a direct shot to the democrats who want to delay a debate about action on Iraq (see the QotD.) President Bush headed to the UN today to state the United States (and the world's) case against Iraq. Bush used short and sweet points of evidence against Iraq and asserted that the United States is prepared to go it alone- without the UN- against Iraq. President Bush traveled to the three areas of the country that were hit by terrorist attacks one year ago today. Bush traveled to the Pentagon this morning, Pennsylvania this afternoon, and New York City this evening- where he delivered an address to the nation from Ellis Island. President Bush met with Portuguese Prime Minister Jose Manuel Durao Barroso to discuss the on going war on terror as well as the anniversary of the September 11th attacks. Later in the day, Bush met with Arab- and Muslim-American Leaders at the Afghani Embassy. Meanwhile, First Lady Laura Bush attended the dedication ceremony for the "September 11, Bearing Witness to History" exhibit at the American History Museum in Washington. The President and First Lady greeted British Prime Minister Tony Blair at Camp David today, where the President and Prime Minister met for several hours to discuss the threat of Saddam Hussein, and what diplomatic strategy for possible military action against him might be taken. A U.S honor guard cordon greeted Mr. Blair, and the two world leaders fielded a few questions from the media before their meeting. President Bush spent this morning on the phone with the leaders of China, Russia, and France, opening the dialogue on Iraq, and honoring his promise to consult with our allies around the world about our goals there . President Bush had a busy day today traveling to Kentucky and Indiana on a “housekeeping swing” to two of the nation’s hottest congressional races, stumping for candidates in key districts before returning to the White House. He was met at the airport by the World Champion Louisville Little League team, who were treated to a tour of Air Force 1. This morning the President met with congressional leaders in the Cabinet Room of the White House to discuss the need for the Senate to act on bills before them, and more significantly to discuss the ‘regime change’ he seeks in Iraq. He promised to seek Congressional support for any action against Iraq and affirmed that the administration will participate fully in Congressional discussions, while presenting a strong case for his plans to deal with Saddam, “sooner, rather than later.” He also laid out plans to involve world leaders, including Tony Blair who is coming to Camp David on Saturday. Well.......there were no new photos today of the President, and not much publicly going on in his life……..maybe he was getting some rest after his “vacataion”……. but there was much discussion in the news about what he’s going to do. Ari Fleischer had a news briefing at the White House, and Donald Rumsfeld at the Pentagon, and both of them minimized the media frenzy about the so-called disagreements among the Cabinet members, with Rumsfeld, in characteristic form calling it “Baloney!” He said that they meet together “all the time” and that the President, who is good at making decisions, will...

President Bush celebrated Labor Day in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania today as he spoke to members of the Carpenter's Union and attended a picnic. In his speech, the President focused on thanking American workers and on strengthening the country through compassion. He also used the occasion to stress the need for a cabinet-level department of homeland defense. Bush also toured the Carpenters Joint Apprenticeship Center on Neville Island.
