Rome - Centre right candidate Gianni Alemanno has won the mayoral election in Rome with almost 54 percent of the votes cast. This puts him ahead of his left wing rival Francesco Rutelli and brings to an end the 15-year rule of the city's left wing administration. Mr Alemanno is a political ally of Silvio Berlusconi, who two weeks ago was the big winner in Italy's parliamentary elections.
