The Monitor RIO GRANDE CITY — A Mexican national remains behind bars in connection with the assault of a U.S. Border Patrol Agent. Court records state 20-year-old Jorge Hernandez Mondragon was arrested last July 20 along the banks of the river near Rio Grande City. During the arrest, Hernandez tackled a Border Patrol agent in the process of arresting another illegal alien. The other man got away. Earlier this week, Hernandez went before U.S. Magistrate Judge Dorina Ramos who charged him with both immigration and with assault charges and ordered he be held without bond pending a detention hearing.

PHOENIX - A computerized fingerprinting system is credited with apprehending nearly four times more illegal immigrants with criminal or immigration records trying to enter through Arizona.Since October, the Border Patrol says agents patrolling the Tucson sector have apprehended nearly eleven-thousand people who were wanted by local authorities or had been convicted of crimes or immigration violations.The majority of people were detected by a digital scanning fingerprint system that lets agents check both criminal and immigration records simply by scanning the fingers on both hands.The system wasn't available to the entire Tucson sector until this year.It was installed at the Border...
