As the list of possible SCOTUS picks narrows to rumored likelies, what about the women? Who will Trump pick to replace retiring Justice Anthony Kennedy? We have some clues: “It will be somebody from that list,” the president said Wednesday, referring to the 25 names he published in November. Reports since then have narrowed down these top contenders to five insider favorites. “We have to pick one that’s going to be there for 40 years, 45 years,” Trump also said, suggesting a judge’s relative youth may be a deciding factor. There are six women on the list, and one in...

The Senate confirmed two more appeals court picks Thursday, closing out a week that saw them devote all their time to filling the federal judiciary with President Trump’s nominees. Including the two latest picks, they confirmed four circuit judges and one district judge this week — overcoming Democratic filibuster attempts for each. Senators voted 56-41 to confirm Colorado Supreme Court Justice Allison Eid for a seat on the 10th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, then voted 54-43 for Stephanos Bibas, who is nominated to the 3rd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.

President Trump’s pick to fill the appeals court seat left vacant when Justice Neil M. Gorsuch joined the Supreme Court cruised through her confirmation hearing Wednesday, with Democrats chiefly complaining about the timing rather than her judicial record. Colorado Supreme Court Justice Allison Eid faced some questions about her judicial record, but Democrats said their major objection was the speed Republicans were showing in trying to fill court vacancies — including Wednesday’s hearing, which was held even though the Senate wasn’t in session that day. “It’s extraordinary for a nominations hearing to be held when the Senate is not otherwise...
  • While you were focused on COMEY, Trump nominated another group of CONSERVATIVE Judges

It’s understandable why everyone is focused on The Greatest Show on Earth, the appearance of James Comey before the Senate Intelligence Committee on Thursday, June 8, 2017. But barring some surprise testimony not in Comey’s prepared statement, the hearing will merely confirm “bad” news for Trump already leaked to the press – none of which rises to the level of criminality. And there are some good aspects of the testimony, including that Trump was not personally under investigation and never asserted any type of interference in the Russia probe. While everyone was focused on Comey’s prepared statement, Trump went about...

Today Donald J. Trump released the much-anticipated list of people he would consider as potential replacements for Justice Scalia at the United States Supreme Court. This list was compiled, first and foremost, based on constitutional principles, with input from highly respected conservatives and Republican Party leadership. Mr. Trump stated, “Justice Scalia was a remarkable person and a brilliant Supreme Court Justice. His career was defined by his reverence for the Constitution and his legacy of protecting Americans’ most cherished freedoms. He was a Justice who did not believe in legislating from the bench and he is a person whom I...
