I was heartened to see the disgust with which people reacted to the news of this book being sold on Amazon, but this public outcry is too little, too late. Boycotting Amazon for carrying this title not only has been tried before (and failed), but it ignores the root causes of the problem. According to Amazon, last month the state of Texas issued the company an assessment of $269 million for uncollected sales taxes for a four year period from Dec. 2005 to Dec. 2009. Amazon says the assessment is "without merit" and says it intends to "vigorously defend" itself in the matter.

Texas has sent Amazon .com Inc. a $269 million bill for uncollected sales taxes on purchases made by state residents from the Seattle-based Internet superstore over a four-year period. This is a book of Breathtaking Bias [Review of Palestine and the Arab-Israeli Conflict by Charle Smith] I purchased and read it because I saw that it was being used for the "Jews and Arabs in Contact and Conflict" course given at Cornell University.
