• Stop Eminent Domain: list your eviction date on "Frontline Eviction Calendar"

Remember Elian Gonzalez? By surrounding his home supporters kept the media tuned to his story and made all Americans aware of his plight. In the same spirit Freestar is creating a calendar of the eviction dates of victims of eminent domain abuse (EDA). This calendar will allow opponents of EDA to surround the homes and businesses of victims on eviction day and call attention to their story. After we have the calendar we will need a band of people ready to walk, drive or fly to frontline of the eminent domain wars—to whomever's home or business is next in the...

...and according to AP, only 28 people have entered, 12 of them from North Dakota. Okay, let the jokes fly, but I've been to the Peace Garden State, and it's a great place. That's me below in 2004 running in the North Dakota Badlands near Medora, one of the places the winners--and their chaperones--will visit this summer. Anyone who knows any high schoolers who will be juniors or seniors next year should tell them about the North Dakota National Guard essay contest. From AP: A National Guard essay contest is offering 10 selected high school students from every state and...
• DePaul student to be on KHOW's Caplis and Silverman's show (upcoming Ward Churchill appearance)

On Tuesday afternoon, October 11, 2005, I will be commentating on the DePaul/Churchill fiasco on a local Colorado radio show, "Caplis & Silverman." They have been adamant combaters against Churchill and his beliefs, as any responsible citizen should be. Governor Bill Owens has also appeared on the show numerous times, especially with regards to Ward Churchill. The University and those who undermine the fabric of our community will be forced to retreat and concede after the national media becomes involved. This radio show appearance, hopefully, is but only the first step to a more efficient and public opposition. You can...

Last week, I reported on the Supreme Court's Kelo vs City of New London decision, which seriously weakened Constitutionally guaranteed private property rights. Now, in what can only be viewed as an attempt at pure poetic justice, a budding developer, businessman Logan Darrow Clements, has begun the process of seizing Supreme Court Justice David Souter's homestead in Weare, New Hampshire and replacing it with a hotel. Citing the Kelo decision, Clements has contacted Weare's building official, saying: "Although this property is owned by an individual, David H. Souter, a recent Supreme Court decision, "Kelo vs. City of New London" clears...

'Droopy drawers' bill seeks end to overexposure of underwear By Christina Bellantoni -- Virginia lawmakers to the state's youth: Pull up your pants or pay the price. Delegate Algie T. Howell Jr. doesn't want to see underwear hanging out of the back of your pants, and most lawmakers yesterday agreed with him. The House voted 60-34 for his bill, which would impose a $50 fine on anyone whose boxers, briefs or thongs peek above their pants or skirts. "It's not an attack on baggy pants," said Mr. Howell, Norfolk Democrat. "To vote for this bill would be a vote for...

*** OFFICIAL KENTUCKY FREEPER MEETING *** Okay, you people, it has been way too long since we had an official "unofficial" (or should that be unofficial "official"?) meeting of the Kentucky Freepers. I checked back and found that over a full year has passed since we last hosted one of our loud and rowdy meetings. In an effort to gather the largest possible crowd of Freepers for this event, I am going to throw out some possible dates for an evening meeting here. After doing my research, I have found a handful of upcoming dates on which there are no...
• The Jolly Roger: Navigating An American Renaissance

In an era where cool has been commodified and postmodernism has triumphed in the literary, cultural, and financial arenas, where inherent worth is oft dismissed and new-age hype rules the day, jollyroger.com has stuck by the guns of fundamental principle. She has sailed steadily along her foreordained course, signing aboard loyal crew members one by one, firing broadsides from the Western Canon to defend the embattled Great Books, and laying the foundations of the world’s classical portal with the most valuable kind of seed capital—heartfelt poetry. In the postmodern culture’s pervasive gray, it’s often difficult to perceive the Permanent Things;...
• FReeper jmstein7 on Sean Hannity! Did you like my point?

I was just on Hannity a few minutes ago (from New York)! Did any of you guys hear me? Anyway, I said that the liberal Democrat legislature in CA is going to thry and thwart Arnold by sending up all kinds of liberal social legislation (gay marriage, et.) It is clear how Arnold must respond to this. He has a mandate to eliminate the car tax. He MUST threaten to veto EVERYTHING that comes across his desk until he gets the legislation that the people are demanding. Second, as Newt made clear on H&C last night, he has to go...

Dear FReeper friends, I'm writing to let you know that I just found out that I (retroactively) made Law Review at my school (#10 of 308 in my class). I want to thank all the FReeper law experts who gave me advice and help last year when I was a 1L. I plan to pay you all back by taking our fight to Law Review. Anyway, I am looking for a topic for my "note", and I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions. I was thinking about writing something about election law (Bush v. Gore, Lautenberg, 9th Circuit recall...

Went to rally last weekend ^ | 4/4/2003 | Amy Hilscher

In addition to the rallies at the State Capitol building, and the Civic Center, last weekend (3/30)there was also a support our troops rally at the Ewa end of Ala Moana Park from 10-12. There will be one this Saturday. This was the first time I've ever attended a rally/protest of any kind. It was soooo much fun, there was a DJ playing all kinds of patriotic music, and about 200-300 people attended. Hopefully the fun won't be spoiled this weekend by the "peace activists" who crashed the rally at the Civic center last weekend. Hope to see eveyone there!!!!

• Rule Could Exempt Charities From Ban on Campaign Ads

08/18/2002 9:27:55 AM PDT · by JerseyHighlander · 1 replies · 252+ views
The Federal Election Commission this month proposed rules that could exempt most charities from an advertising prohibition contained in the new campaign-finance law. The commission has asked charities and others (that means you FReepers) to submit their views on the proposals. The new law bars organizations from running ads that mention a candidate within the 60 days preceding an election. The ban applies even to ads about an issue or piece of legislation, a type of advocacy charities frequently use. In the proposed rules, the commission said the prohibition on advertising that mentions candidates applies only to paid advertisements, so...
