This is the most recent UPDATE and it will be the last update for information about this huge Cyclone that impacted North Queensland in Australia. I have links to videos and image galleries showing the immense damage caused as this Category 5 storm swept through this area. While there is damage to thousands of homes, the main damage is to the Banana plantations, and this area grows and supplies 90% of Australia's bananas. There is also huge damage to the Sugar Cane crops as well, as this is also a huge sugar cane growing area. While this huge storm impacted...

This is the most recent UPDATE with the links to the latest articles from the local news media, videos, radio, image galleries, and Cyclone Advisory Notices. The Cyclone is now almost 250 miles inland from Cairns, and moving towards Mount Isa. So far, the most thankful thing is that there have been no reported casualties. Damage however, is horrendous.

Tropical Cyclone Yasi came ashore at Mission Beach around midnight. As dawn breaks, people are just beginning to see those scenes of devastation, especially at Tully, and Cardwell, both close to Mission beach. It's still early days yet, and reports are only beginning to filter in. Cairns and Innisfail were spared the worst of it, but are still in danger from the storm surge on the morning high tide. Townsville to the South has been flooded with almost feet of rain. The Cyclone is now nearly 150 miles inland, and has been downgraded to a Category 2 System

This is the most recent UPDATE for this Post. Major Category 5 Tropical Cyclone Yasi crossed the Queensland coastline at Mission beach, around 20 miles south of Innisfail, and 65 miles South of Cairns at midnight. Winds at the core of the Cyclone, now intensely worse than Hurricane Katrina, are around 190MPH. Reports coming from the area are sketchy, and not much will be seen or known until the morning. I have links to live TV coverage, Live radio coverage, major media reports, weather radar images, links to satellite imagery, and I will be continuing with further UPDATES.

This cyclone is now infinitely worse even than Hurricane Katrina in every respect. One link shows an overlay of this Cyclone over Continental U.S. and it covers virtually the whole of the U.S. There is also a link to live radio coverage from the affected area, now extending along a 1500 mile stretch of the Queensland Coastline. People have been told the time for evacuation has passed, and now they are on their own, and have been warned to lock themselves in their bathrooms, and bunker up, for what could be a day or two. Winds at the core are...

This Post has the latest UPDATE for this monster Cyclone. Tropical Cyclone Yasi has been upgraded to Severe Category 5 with winds at the centre in the vicinity of 200 MPH. This now places this storm on the same scale as for Hurricane Katrina. It will impact the Queensland Coastline near Cairns, a major city of 125,000 people, and in Townsville to the South, 60,000 people are being evacuated from there as well. It is expected to make landfall at around 10PM tonight, Wednesday Australian time, and because of its size, will saty as a major Cyclone for almost 2 days....

This is the latest UPDATE on this super Cyclone heading for Cairns, a city with a population of around 130,000. There is an image at the Post comparing some large and damaging storms, and this Cyclone Yasi bears remarkable similarities in nearly every respect with Hurricane Katrina, except Yasi will pack more than three times the rain (around 40 inches in this case with Yasi) that was associated with Katrina, and Yasi will have approximately the same storm surge, around 23 feet. This is a truly frightening thing, and you'll see just how frightening from the latest Satellite tracking imagery,...

A monster Cyclone (named Cyclone Yasi) is currently heading towards the State of Queensland in Australia. Queensland is only just recovering from recent flooding across most of this huge State. This monster cyclone is similar in size and scope to Hurricane Katrina, and there are very grave fears for what might may happen when this huge System makes landfall, on early Thursday morning, in an area south of Cairns. Some areas are expecting huge sea surges, and there will be rainfall associated with the Cyclone in the vicinity of 40 inches, which will cause major flooding. Some of the imagery...

This has the latest UPDATE of the ongoing major flood crisis in Australia, now certainly the worst natural disaster in our history. The projected cost has been roughly calculated at around $12 Billion, but that would be the lowest starting point. This Update has many further links to videos, audio, and related stories from Victoria as well, where a one in 200 year flood is causing havoc in that State as well. In Queensland, the Premier has set up a Royal Commission of Inquiry into the disaster. One distasteful story is about the Greens Party Senator Bob Brown, who is...

There is also a link to one of the most harrowing videos to emerge from the flood, video footage taken with a mobile phone of what happened in the Lockyer Valley when the huge wall of water roared through the area. The video is graphic by nature and shows the rawest of emotions from people who think they are about to die.

This latest UPDATE contains the most recent news from the Brisbane Floods. After the link, see the first link I have to a truly amazing interactive image of the flood zone. This image shows the flood on the river, and is similar to a Google Earth Map, only it makes Google Earth look like a child's painting in comparison. Read the instructions very carefully. The clean up is well under way with tens of thousands of people flocking into the city from everywhere to help in the clean up.

In Australia we’re all watching the flood news unfold. Right now, two friends are trapped without electricity in an apartment building in inner Brisbane. The ground floor below them is inundated. Troy and Jan wrote on Tuesday night that they had little warning their exit route would be cut off, and by the time they knew it was, it was too late to leave. They were rushing to cook meals before the electricity went off and were expecting to lose the car. — My thoughts go out to them, and to those who are so much worse off. Which brings...

This is the fourth UPDATE of this terrible disaster. Brisbane residents woke this morning to scenes reminiscent of a war zone. Thankfully the peak was a little lower than expected, but hundreds of thousands of people are now homeless. This post has links to the latest media releases, videos, and image galleries. I also explain the role of the huge mega dam, and how without this dam, the tragedy would have been even more unspeakable.

This has the latest Updates from what is now obviously the greatest natural disaster in Australia's history as the third largest city in Australia is gradually going under in this massive flood. The CBD is a ghost city, and so far nearly 140,000 consumers have had their electricity turned off. There's been rushes on now empty supermarkets. We have been told that the worse is still to come as king tides on Thursday will raise the level even higher. This is a disaster of astronomical proportions. I have links to local and national media with video, related stories, and image...

This Post now has an UPDATE with the latest news from this terrible disaster, which could end up becoming Australia's worst natural disaster. There are links to some graphic videos and links to major news media outlets in Brisbane with stories on what is happening there right now. The inflows into the monster Wivenhoe Dam, now at 200% are gradually getting back to the stage where they are releasing around the same amount of water that is flowing into the dam. All this water flows directly through Brisbane, where flood levels are expected to go beyond the 1974 levels. What...

Brisbane, the capital city of the State of Queensland in Australia, is now being smashed by what could be the worst natural disaster in Australia's history. All reports say that this could be worse than the huge 1974 flood. The huge dams cannot hold back what is a truly immense amount of water flooding into the river that flows through the capital. There's links to news for a number of sources at this Post, and some background on that huge dam, that is now close to 200% full and pouring water down the spillway at the rate of 160 Billion...
