Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Ehud Barak are trying to muster a majority in the cabinet in favor of military action against Iran, a senior Israeli official has said. According to the official, there is a "small advantage" in the cabinet for the opponents of such an attack. Netanyahu and Barak recently persuaded Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman, who previously objected to attacking Iran, to support such a move.

Defense Minister Ehud Barak ordered to stop the transfer of the bodies of 84 Palestinian terrorists to the Palestinian Authority at the last minute on Monday, despite earlier confirmation from the IDF Spokesperson's Office that the transfer would go through. Barak made his decision to hold off on the transfer after a Haaretz report revealed that two of the bodies to be returned to the PA were the Awadallah brothers, former leaders of the Hamas military wing, who were killed by Israeli soldiers near Hebron in September 1998. The defense minister explained his decision, saying it was important to weigh...

Barak: Dagan's comments on Iran hurt Israel's ability of deterrence The defense minister criticized former Mossad cheif Meir Dagan for saying that a military strike on Iran would be a 'stupid thing.' Defense Minister Ehud Brak criticized on Monday comments made by Israel's ex-Mossad chief, who said a military strike on Iran would be a "stupid thing." Former Mossad chief Meir Dagan's comments "hurt Israel's ability to deter" Barak said during an interview with Israel Radio. "Any ability to disperse the ambiguousness surrounding the issue of Iran" hurts Israel's standing against Iran, the defense minister said. Barak said that the...

National Union Chairman MK Yaakov Katz (Ketzaleh) warned Sunday that Defense Minister Ehud Barak intends to launch a wave of demolitions of Jewish outposts in Judea and Samaria. The evictions could begin as soon as Monday, he said, citing inside information leaked from the Defense Ministry. “Barak is a bad man who hates the Jewish settlement enterprise on Judea and Samaria,” Ketzaleh said. “[Prime Minister Binyamin] Netanyahu must rein him in immediately.” He also called on Netanyahu to fire Barak because of his policy of evictions.

I saw a note slide across the #TCOT feed on Twitter last night that mentioned Michelle Obama had no law license. This struck me as odd, since (a) she went to school to be a lawyer, and (b) she just recently held a position with the University of Chicago Hospitals as legal counsel — and that’s a pretty hard job to qualify for without a law license. But being a licensed professional myself, i knew that every state not only requires licensure, they make it possible to check online the status of any licensed professional. So I did, and here’s...

JERUSALEM – Israel's defense minister is canceling a planned visit to Paris amid threats by pro-Palestinian groups to have him arrested there. Ehud Barak was to dedicate a new Israeli booth at the Eurosatory arms fair in Paris, which opens this week. But his office announced Sunday that he would stay home while Israel forms a committee to investigate its deadly raid on a Gaza-bound flotilla.

In 2006, Elena Kagan hailed Israeli supreme court justice Aharon Barak as her “judicial hero”: other folks view him much less favorably than Kagan does—and that she may have a strange view of what “democracy” is and what the “rule of law” entails. Here’s some of what Seventh Circuit judge Richard A. Posner has to say about Barak (in his book How Judges Think, pp. 362-368)*: " One of the most prominent of the aggressively interventionist foreign judges is Aharon Barak…. [H]is book on judging is Exhibit A for why American judges should be wary about citing foreign judicial decisions…....

U.S. President Barack Obama held an impromptu meeting with Defense Minister Ehud Barak on Monday, during which Obama affirmed his country's "unshakeable commitment to Israel's security." According to a White House spokesman Robert Gibbs, Obama "dropped by" a Monday morning meeting between Barak and U.S. National Security Adviser James Jones. Obama also reasserted his administration's determination to achieve regional peace, "including a two-state solution with a secure Jewish state of Israel living side by side in peace and security with a viable and independent Palestinian state."

Do-It-Yourself Impeachment This is much more than just a petition. This is a way for individual citizens to initiate the impeachment process themselves, directly. There's a little known and rarely used clause in the rules for the House of Representatives that sets forth the various ways in which a power abusing federal official can be impeached. Only the House Judiciary Committee puts together the Articles of Impeachment, but before that happens, someone has to initiate the process. That's where we come in. One of the ways to get impeachment going is for individual citizens like you and I to submit...

The recently-revealed Qom nuclear plant in Iran is buried so deep under concrete that a "regular" military attack would not affect it, Defense Minister Ehud Barak revealed to the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Security Committee on Monday. Concerning Iran, the Defense Minister said that the Qom nuclear reactor was under construction for several years and is buried in a bunker that is resistant to regular bombing. He did not mention the prospect of a nuclear strike.

The followers of Barack Obama have taken a nose dive off the deep end of reality and entered into the hopeless pit of denial and wonderment of the science fiction era known as Trek Obama. Anyone breathing and an IQ higher then 60 (which barely includes most Obama supporters) has seen, heard of, or been part of Star Trek. Star Trek is the fictional reality of the future, again like Obama’s fictional past, where everyone’s needs are magically meet and no personal needs are ever denied, along and no costs ever being mentioned, because this is a fictional utopia. (IsraelNN.com) Defense Minister Ehud Barak signed permits Thursday for 28 educational institutions and public buildings. The educational structures are intended for the school year which begins in September (2010/2011, or 5771 by the Hebrew calendar). Barak said: “We are all obligated to carry out an open dialogue with the settler leaders, and to listen to them. This is a very serious and responsible group that exhibited a large degree of self-restraint in various tests in the past.”

I posted this on another thread using another word but upon reflection It occured to me that if one wanted to start a new curse word the word "Barak' would work far better than the original. So in the interest of furthering the development of profanity science here is the latest word to be bleeped when broadcast. Proper use of the word “Barak” through history “Where did all of the “barak” concrete sales go.” Mort Zlotnik concrete contractor in Babel “Those “barak” Americans just won't “barak” give up” British General Edward Pakenham at the battle of New Orleans 1814 “Where...

Barack Obama’s dad was such an important but absent figure in his life that he devoted his first book, “Dreams From My Father,” to the search for details about his father’s life and how the quest helped forge a son’s identity. Now, a long-forgotten essay written 43 years ago by Obama’s father has surfaced, and its contents reveal much — not only about the senior Obama’s grasp of economic theory but also about the iconoclastic politics that, his son would later write, sent him into the spiral of career disappointment that concluded with his death in 1982 in his native...

President Barack Obama's name was spelt wrongly in an official release from the White House. Following President Obama's trip to Russia, an official release touting the agreement between the US president and President Dmitry Medvedev over how to craft a follow-up to the START arms reduction treaty was put out. But the White House claimed the document had been signed by one "Barak Obama" - missing the 'c' from his first name. Russian and American negotiators salvaged the summit by agreeing the text of a preliminary deal on nuclear disarmament, deflecting fears that the most important element of Mr Obama's...

Defense minister briefs senior cabinet members on London meeting with Obama's Mideast envoy; one of them quoted as saying Barak 'offered dismantling of illegal West Bank outposts in exchange for nothing' Roni Sofer "(Defense Minister Ehud) Barak returned with nothing from his talks with (special US Mideast envoy) George Mitchell; it appears that he offered the dismantling of illegal West Bank outposts in exchange for nothing," a senior minister said Tuesday. Israel's Defense Minister Ehud Barak tried to convince special envoy to the Middle East George Mitchell Tuesday that construction for Jews in Judea and Samaria isn’t an obstacle to the peace process. Barak's view is that the focus on building homes is short-sighted and that it will lead the peace process to a dead end instead of helping to create a wide-ranging regional peace plan. "In 2000, I was the Israeli Prime Minister that made the boldest steps to attain peace, and that year saw the largest number of Israeli construction-starts" in Judea and Samaria, he told Mitchell at their...

The U.S. State Department may have toned down its demand on Israel to freeze construction within Judea and Samaria. In a press briefing Monday, State Department spokesman Ian Kelly reiterated that the obligations signed by Israel under the Roadmap require Israel to freeze all construction within Judea and Samaria, including “natural growth.” Nevertheless, Kelly hinted that the U.S. is open to “negotiations.” The official stated that both Israel and PA Arabs must honor their commitment to the Roadmap plan towards peace. “For the Palestinians, it means ending incitements to violence against Israel and demonstrating an ability to provide security. MOSCOW (Reuters) - Israel issued contradictory signals on Wednesday on whether it might bomb Iran, with its foreign minister saying there were no such plans and the defense minister saying all options were on the table. Israel, widely believed to be the Middle East's only nuclear power, has repeatedly described Iran's uranium enrichment as a threat to its existence. "I have been asked by Saudi journalists about when Israel plans to bomb Iran. We are not planning to bomb Iran," far-right Israeli Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman said during a visit to Russia. "We do not have a need" to carry...

JERUSALEM – Israel's defense minister said Saturday he believes Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will endorse the creation of a Palestinian state during his upcoming meeting with President Barack Obama in Washington. It would be a significant shift for the Israeli leader, who has made clear in the past that he does not think the Palestinians are ready to rule themselves. But that position has put him at odds with long-standing U.S. policy that supports Palestinian statehood as the cornerstone of Mideast peace efforts. "I think and believe that Netanyahu will tell Obama this government is prepared to go for a...

(IsraelNN.com) Defense Minister Ehud Barak stated on Sunday that the State of Israel is unable to dictate to the U.S. whether it would negotiate with Iran. Nevertheless, Israel considers that diplomatic negotiations with Teheran should have a time limit and be led with sanctions in order to cease Iran's nuclear program. The Defense Minister reiterated that all options are on the table, as far as Israel is concerned.

The United States is still the same country it was a year ago, give or take about 6 million jobs. But its international branding campaign, as led by the new President, Barack Obama, is so different that the rest of the world might be forgiven if it has to do a double take. Most of the hallmarks of the foreign policy of George W. Bush are gone... Obama has made clear that the U.S. is but one actor in a global community. Talk of American economic supremacy has been replaced by a call from Obama for more growth in developing...

"Meet the new boss, same as the old boss" Sometime tomorrow former Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu will be sworn in as the new Prime Minister of Israel. As Bibi starts his new reign make sure to throw out all of your projections about this government, and look for surprises. As Foreign Minister Lieberman will not have as much influence as you may think. Remember Tzipi Livni complained that the entire Second Lebanon War was waged with little input from the foreign ministry. Expect Barak and Netanyahu to be "glued at the hip." These two veterans of many political wars...

My late father used to say that the difference between a dictatorship and a democracy is rather small. “In a dictatorship those in power,” he would tell me, “do whatever they wish while the citizenry MAY NOT say a thing! In a democracy anyone is allowed to freely say anything while the power elites still do whatever they want.” Looking at the latest example of Israeli democracy, it seems my father’s half joking remarks are all too true. In the last elections, the Israeli electorate gave the right leaning parties 65 votes, versus 55 (including 10 mandates to the Arab...

This is how Labor dies. Not with a whimper. Not with a bang. More like assisted suicide. Mark the day, Tuesday 24 March 2009. It is on this day that Israel's founding party 'finishes its historical role'. Regardless of which way the vote in the convention goes on Tuesday, Labor is finished. If Barak wins, Labor will serve as the fig leaf for Netanyahu's 'orange and black' administration, gradually withering away under international diplomatic isolation and economic stress. If Barak loses, he could jump ship and join Bibi, alone or with a few others, while leaving the rest of Labor...

President Barack Obama doesn’t go anywhere without his TelePrompter. The textbook-sized panes of glass holding the president’s prepared remarks follow him wherever he speaks. Resting on top of a tall, narrow pole, they flank his podium during speeches in the White House’s stately parlors. They stood next to him on the floor of a manufacturing plant in Indiana as he pitched his economic stimulus plan. They traveled to the Department of Transportation this week and were in the Capitol Rotunda last month when he paid tribute to Abraham Lincoln in six-minute prepared remarks. Obama’s reliance on the teleprompter is unusual...

“I must confess I was impressed by Sen.Barack Obama from the first time I saw him. At first I was excited to see a black candidate. He looked youthful, spoke well, appeared to be confident - a wholesome presidential package. I was put off soon, not just because of his shallowness but also because there was an air of haughtiness in his demeanor that was unsettling. His posture and his body language were louder than his empty words. Obama's speeches are unlike any political speech we have heard in American history. Never a politician in this land had such quasi...

Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak spoke to the world following the opening of a ground offensive into Gaza by Israeli Defense Forces. He said that Israel had "weighed all options," and had now begun "phase two" of their operation to root out Hamas terrorists in Gaza. Barak said the operation would "widen and deepen" as necessary to achieve Israel's security. There is no question but that Israel has every right to do what is necessary to end Hamas' ability to lob shells into Israel killing Israeli civilians. Imagine if terrorists were shelling American cities in New Mexico or Texas from...

WASHINGTON — The White House has prepared more than a dozen contingency plans to help guide President-elect Barack Obama if an international crisis erupts in the opening days of his administration, part of an elaborate operation devised to smooth the first transition of power since Sept. 11, 2001. The memorandums envision a variety of volatile possibilities, like a North Korean nuclear explosion, a cyberattack on American computer systems, a terrorist strike on United States facilities overseas or a fresh outbreak of instability in the Middle East, according to people briefed on them. Each then outlines options for Mr. Obama to...

The thaw in the resentful relationship between the most powerful woman in the Democratic Party and her younger male rival began at the party’s convention this summer, ... Mrs. Clinton’s political skills would serve her well in the job ... Clinton was herself diligent in advertising how hard she was working for the man who defeated her... But Mr. Obama began calling Mrs. Clinton after some of the events — he dialed directly from his cellphone to hers one day in Michigan and another day in Florida — to check in and thank her for helping. By then, their intense...

I'm not a big fan of political retribution. I'm also not a big fan of Joe Lieberman's schtick over the last year. Truth be told, when he wondered if Barack Obama was a Marxist back in April and started questioning his patriotism ("The election a choice between one candidate, John McCain, who has always put the country first, worked across party lines to get things done, and one candidate who has not'') long before Sarah Palin glided on stage, that was when I started to have doubts about voting for John McCain. But the fact is, Lieberman has been a...

The hardships we endure in these times, starting with 9/11, make "change" an inviting word. However, "change" can still be horribly negative if the wrong choices are made. This generation is far removed from the Great Depression and World War 2. They simply have no idea how bad things could get. We are being faced with the greatest economic crisis since the Great Depression, one of worldwide impact. In making the choices about the future, it is imperative that we understand how we got here. How did this economic crisis occur? Who is responsible for the mortgage meltdown? Before you...

The Truth About Obama is He Does Not Tell The Truth From: Michael Master To: Barack Obama, The New York Times carried a story on Saturday, October 4, 2008 that proved you had a significantly closer relationship with Bill Ayers than what you previously admitted. Below is a letter from the writer, Naomi Ragen, which nails the issues we face on Nov 4th. While the economic issues take center stage, the problem of Islamic theology which causes terror will be much more of an issue over the next four years than the economy. If we as a nation believe in freedom, liberty and the pursuit of happiness we must elect leaders who stand for those values. If we elect Obama, our freedoms and way of life will be destroyed, if not forever, then at least for some considerable time to come. Germany elected Hitler and...

This is getting really freaky. Dear Leader gets 15 page spread in 2008 children's textbooks. This isn't teaching, it's indoctrination! Note: No Hillary, No McCain, No Palin, No Bush... Just Obama!

With all eyes glued to the collapse of global capitalism ... attention has been somewhat distracted from the race to lead what still remains the most powerful nation on earth.... We ignore it at our peril. From the shockingly partisan presentation by the pro-Obama media on both sides of the Atlantic, you'd think this was a contest between twin pillars of rectitude and inspirational high seriousness on the Democratic side, and a joke Republican ticket consisting of an erratic old man and a brainless, wacko, gun-toting beauty queen, who in a fit of madness John McCain picked as his vice-presidential...

My interest was piqued, but the dark time lived on until my faith in others was renewed on Jan. 4 in the Iowa state primary.
