Dallas billboards 'not trying to be morbid' 01/06/2003 From Staff Reports Eye-catching? Yes. Offensive? To at least one person. Billboards along eastbound Interstate 635 near Audelia Road, along northbound Interstate 35E near Royal Lane and at two other locations advertise homicide and suicide cleanup services. The company that offers the services has received one complaint, founder Michael Tillman said. The billboards prominently display the words "suicide" and "homicide." "We're not trying to be gross or morbid," Mr. Tillman said. "We just want to help families." Police and other law enforcement agencies often do not clean up after crimes. Mr....

f you were out enjoying the city last weekend, you might have stumbled, quite literally, across a new low in advertising. Big corporations like Nike and ABC were promoting themselves by pasting large plastic posters, known as street decals, on the sidewalks. This renegade marketing is offensive and illegal, and Nike wisely decided yesterday to remove its decals. There is a long tradition of graffiti artists, "guerrilla marketers" and fringe political groups painting, stenciling or otherwise inscribing their messages on the streets and sidewalks. This sort of defacement has always been illegal, but in the case of fly-by-night offenders it...

Cows have been turned into walking advertising hoardings in Switzerland. Company logos and slogans are being painted on to cow's bodies before the animals are released back on to Swiss pastures as part of a brand name marketing campaign. Frank Baumann, who is head of the Cow Placard Company, says he hopes the idea will "help boost the rural economy". The company is offering advertisers the chance to have a logo or slogan painted onto a cow's side using car paints. But the move has been criticised by animal rights groups who say Baumann is simply looking for the publicity...

Hey Brothers and Sisters! Has anyone seen the "God Billboards" in your state? We were driving back from vacation (traveled abroad to The Independent Republic of Texas) and going through Arizona we noticed a couple of these billboards. They are on a black background with white letters. There is no sponsoring organization listed anywhere but I was able to find out all the "quotes" that will be advertised. They're not exactly "The Word" held forth, but they've got teeth! Enjoy! and remember that today we are closer to the return of Christ than ever before! Hoo-wah! <>< Tell the kids...

Should the South Dakota Legislature enact new restrictions on billboards?

The poll is on the top right of the page. The relevant story is the main story on the page called "Will signs block out the Black Hills?"...but realize they leave out a lot of information (the usual press bias).
