Full disclosure: I have written a blog for the last 5 or 6 years -- and (if I do say so myself) it's not bad. In all that time, though, I've never once seen fit to link to one of my posts here. That'd be tacky and not befitting the purpose of this site. But, there are more than several Freepers who use FR continually as a vehicle for getting hits on their blogs instead of simply linking to the article they've ripped off and riffed on. Everybody knows politicians are full of, well, you know. For some reason though we keep eating up everything they tell us. Why do we do this? Well, politicians are smart people. They are masters of the English language and know how to manipulate words to make bad things sound good. So, to help the average voter make a better-informed decision, here is a guide to what politicians really mean when they make those campaign promises.

In a July 3 article on Townhall, columnist Michael Barone laments the possibility that Congress may not pass any immigration “reform” legislation this year. However, he pins some hope on a proposal being advocated by Representative Mike Pence (R.-IN). Ostensibly, the Pence proposal would incorporate the “best” of both worlds, including provisions from both the Senate’s recently passed guest worker/amnesty bill, along with the House version that focuses on immigration enforcement and border security. Unfortunately, the Pence bill would ultimately constitute no less a “sellout” on immigration than that attempted by the Senate, albeit this effort would be spaced out...
