Veteran journalist Bob Woodward is working on a book that will detail the inner-workings of the Trump White House set for release before November's midterm elections. The book, “Fear: Trump in the White House,” is set to be released on Sept. 11, according to the book’s Amazon.com pre-order page. The book “reveals in unprecedented detail the harrowing life inside President Donald Trump’s White House and precisely how he makes decisions on major foreign and domestic policies,” according to Amazon. The cover depicts a close-up of Trump's face, cast in a red filter. Woodward’s account is based on “hundreds of hours...
• Book Review: Democrat to Deplorable by Jack Murphy

Book Review | May 2, 2018 | Jack Murphy
Jack Murphy has done the world a great service in publishing his book, Democrat to Deplorable: Why Nine Million Obama Voters Ditched the Democrats and Embraced Donald Trump, and I would highly recommend it to everyone here, especially those who might be thinking about how to bring liberal/leftist relatives and friends over from the "dark side". Murphy does three things in the book, each of which would separately be significant, but taken together, they add up to far more than the sum of their parts. First, he relays the searing personal story of how he went from being a pretty...

For over a year and a half, Rush Limbaugh has been saying "the only person who can separate Trump from his voters is himself." I know---because he mentioned it on air---that only recently did he read "The Great Revolt" by Salena Zito and Brad Todd, but he had certainly accurately stated the views of most of the people they interviewed. Salena Zito was one of the very few reporters in the 2016 election who captured the mood of the country that the rest of the media missed. She did this largely because instead of staying with the press gaggle---as did...
• Evan Thomas Compares Donald Rumsfeld to Satan in The New York Times

Former Newsweek correspondent Evan Thomas famously described Barack Obama on MSNBC as standing “above the world, he’s sort of God." In a Sunday New York Times book review of a new book by Donald Rumsfeld, he implies Rumsfeld is sort of Satan. The book is titled When the Center Held, about the brief presidency of Gerald Ford. Thomas reached for John Bunyan’s 17th-century Christian allegory The Pilgrim’s Progress for metaphors about Ford: Rumsfeld has written a kind of modern-day Pilgrim’s Progress about a good and godly man who enters the Slough of Despond (Washington, D.C.), is tried and tempted, but...
• Trained to Kill: The Inside Story of CIA Plots against Castro, Kennedy, and Che (Book Review)

“Trained to Kill is one of those essential books that ‘our free press’ is all too likely to ignore, because of all the awful truth between its covers—especially its shattering confirmation that David Attlee Phillips of the CIA did introduce the author [Veciano] to Lee Harvey Oswald just weeks before the assassination of John Kennedy. While thus exploding the old myth of Oswald as ‘lone gunman,’ this chilling memoir also sheds new light on Che Guevara’s murder, Operation Condor, and the fanatic amorality behind the management of US covert operations.” —Mark Crispin Miller, professor of media, culture, and communication at...
• Donald J. Trump--A President Like No Other by Conrad Black

I've been reading Conrad Black's Donald J. Trump--A president like no other. I strongly recommend it. If you're like me, from time to time you enjoy watching youtube's of the Trump campaign, the debates, the press conferences and of course the rallys. Some of the documentaries are fun too. Conrad Black's book is an enjoyment as he takes you into the Trump's past, present and the future. He likens him to many of our most foremost leaders, Washington, Jefferson, Lincoln, Halsey, Patton, Kennedy, Reagan etc. He shows us, (what many here already know), that Trump's upbringing and ability to succeed...

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Former first lady Michelle Obama said Friday her upcoming memoir “Becoming” is a “re-humanization effort” that shares the “ordinariness of a very extraordinary story” that she hopes will give voice to people who feel voiceless. Obama made the remarks as she helped kick off the American Library Association’s annual conference in New Orleans. Librarian of Congress Dr. Carla Hayden moderated the conversation before an estimated crowd of 8,000 inside the city’s convention center. Obama shared snippets from the book, including the experiences that have shaped her, from her childhood on the South Side of Chicago to...

A new book—tweeted out by the president himself—argues that America is in the midst of a populist realignment. For two years, the American media has been stuck in the movie Groundhog Day, replaying the 2016 election over and over in the hopes of extracting some new insight about an outcome it didn’t see coming. While some of this work comes from an earnest place—national reporters sense they got the story wrong, and now they’ve been to the heartland to see what they missed—in aggregate, they’re easily caricatured: the Trump voter as blue-collar Baby Boomer, out of a manufacturing job, a...

American Greatness ^ | May 15, 2018 | Victor Davis Hanson

Conrad Black’s erudite biography of Donald J. Trump is different from the usual in mediis rebus accounts of first-year presidents. He avoids the Bob Woodward fly-on-the-wall unattributed anecdote, and “they say” gossip mongering. Nor is the book a rush-to-publish product from former insiders of the Trump campaign or administration. Instead, Black, a prolific and insightful historian, adopts the annalistic method in carefully tracing Trump’s earliest years in business through his various commercial misadventures, financial recoveries, and sometimes wild antics. Black’s aim is to illustrate how much of what Trump has done since announcing his presidential candidacy in summer 2015 is hardly mysterious. Instead, Trump’s methods are fully explicable by what he has always done in the past—in the sometimes troubling, but more often reassuring, sense. Black is neither a hagiographer nor an ankle-biter. He seeks to understand Trump within the three prominent landscapes in which Americans had come to know their new president: politics, the celebrity world, and the cannibalistic arena of high-stakes Manhattan real estate and finance. Of the three, Black is most jaded about the anti-Trump hysteria within the first two, not because the real estate business is inherently a nobler profession, but because it more often lacks the moral preening and hypocrisies of both the beltway and tabloids. The result is an argument that the first president to have neither prior political nor military service nevertheless has his own demonstrable skill sets that are making his presidency far more dynamic than either his critics or supporters quite imagined. Black’s unspoken assumption is that it is more difficult to build a skyscraper in Manhattan than to be a career politician or an evening news reader.

Everyone likes to bash millennials. We’re spoiled, entitled, and hopelessly glued to our smartphones. We demand participation trophies, can’t find jobs, and live with our parents until we’re 30. But is the millennial hate justified? Have we dropped the generational baton, or was it a previous generation, the so-called baby boomers, who actually ruined everything? That’s the argument Bruce Gibney makes in his book A Generation of Sociopaths: How the Baby Boomers Betrayed America. The boomers, according to Gibney, have committed “generational plunder,” pillaging the nation’s economy, repeatedly cutting their own taxes, financing two wars with deficits, ignoring climate change,...

In the beginning was the word, and the word was with God, and the word was God, and then, on Dec. 14, 1960, I, James Comey, was born. The initials, as Reinhold Niebuhr would tell us, are no coincidence. I have been called a human humblebrag. I certainly couldn’t speak to the truth of that statement, except to say that where I come from, we don’t like bullies and their mean words. Bullies are mean and small, not like myself (I stand 6-foot-8, with a head of lush dark hair and eyes that pierce into the souls of everyone I...

It's not just because I have yet to read Dostoevsky's The Possessed or George Eliot's Middlemarch or an embarrassing amount of Faulkner that I will not pony up $17.95 for a hard copy or even $14.95 for the Kindle version of James Comey's new book A Higher Loyalty, subtitled, in case you miss his drift, Truth, Lies and Leadership. It's also not just because I find him one of the more pompous individuals, real or imagined, this side of an Oscar Wilde play. And it's further not just because from the few excerpts I've seen the writing seems predictably puerile....

Former FBI Director James Comey’s new book will be released next week. It’s already causing a buzz in the D.C. swamp. Both sides have vilified Comey. The Right thinks Comey should have prosecuted Hillary Clinton for mishandling classified information, which was sent through her private, unsecure, and unauthorized email server. Clinton used this for all official business as out secretary of state. The Left thinks the email probe is what caused Hillary to lose, especially when the embattled director informed Congress that emails from then-Secretary Clinton were found on the laptop of Anthony Weiner, husband to Hillary top aide Huma...

I don't mind saying that this column represents a grossly understated review of "Discrimination and Disparities," just published by my longtime friend and colleague Dr. Thomas Sowell. In less than 200 pages, Sowell lays waste to myth after myth not only in the United States but around the globe. One of those myths is that but for the fact of discrimination, we'd all be proportionately represented in socio-economic characteristics, such as career, income, education and incarceration. The fact of business is that there is no evidence anywhere on earth, at any time in human history, that demonstrates that but for...

rst lady Melania Trump is like a shadow president and exercising more power than most people would imagine, according to the author of a new White House tell-all. In the new book, The Trump White House: Changing the Rules of the Game by former Washington Post reporter Ronald Kessler, he says Trump’s third wife is “a very powerful force behind the scenes.” “She is very smart,” Kessler told Inside Edition. “She actually sits in on meetings, she summarizes what others have said and then she comes up with her own strategy. She will disagree with Trump.” He says she also...

President Trump often is quoted anonymously in news reports as a senior White House official, according to a new book from author Ronald Kessler. Kessler, a former Washington Post reporter who has written books on the Secret Service, made that claim in his book, The Trump White House: Changing the Rules of the Game, which was released Monday. “Trump phones Maggie Haberman of the New York Times directly, as well as Philip Rucker of the Washington Post, and Jonathan Swan of Axios, feeding them stories attributed to ‘a senior White House official,’ creating the impression that White House leaks even...

A timely book by Peter Schweizer, “Secret Empires”, explains how Chinese companies purchased U.S. politicians to gain trade advantages. When you understand this process, you better understand why those same politicians today are against the Trump trade policy that is antithetical to their purchased interests. Reminder: U.S. Chamber of Commerce President Tom Donohue is warning President Trump not to take any trade action against China or he will unleash his purchased control agents within congress and financial media to destroy his presidency. Allow me to re-emphasize: All opposition to President Trump stems from the underlying financial and economic policy. All...
