Thursday, Nov. 3, 2005 10:20 a.m. EST Al Franken Furious; 'Do As I Say' Soars on Amazon We have no doubt that Al Franken is furious with news today that Peter Schweizer's blockbuster new book "Do As I Say (Not As I Do): Profiles in Liberal Hypocrisy" has soared to the top of Amazon's Best seller lists. As of Thursday morning, "Do As I Say" hit Amazon's #6 rank for all books sold - climbing more than 20,000 rankings in a week and more than 200 from two days ago when NewsMax.com first featured the book as its lead story....
  • NEW BOOKS BEING THROWN AWAY!!!! (Vanity)

I work in a Retail store and I just found out today that the vendor that stocks the books we sell throws away brand new books! Books that do not sell and its time for them to be pulled from the shelf they take them to the back of the store and rip the covers off of them and throw the book away and ship the cover back to the publisher! ???? I understand the idea behind this is that it is cheaper to mail just the cover back to the vendor instead of the whole book. But Im sorry...

Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) September 22, 2005 -- An unlikely children's book has stepped forward to challenge "Harry Potter" for the #1 ranking on Amazon.com's bestseller list, and its portrayal of left-wing icons Hillary Clinton and Ted Kennedy as cartoon villains has provoked a firestorm of controversy in the process. "Help! Mom! There Are Liberals Under My Bed" (Kids Ahead; hardcover $15.95; ISBN 0976726904) by Katharine DeBrecht soared to #6 in Amazon's overall rankings on Wednesday afternoon after being praised by talk radio king Rush Limbaugh on his national radio show. The illustrated book ranked second only to J.K. Rowling's...
  • Boomers' Aging Anxiety

Publishers are coming to the rescue of baby boomers who are having trouble reading the small print of mass market paperbacks. Simon & Schuster's Jack Romanos says, "We've been losing the foundation of our customer base because their eyesight is getting worse, and the books are getting harder and harder to read." So they are printing new paperbacks in a bigger size with larger type and more space between lines. These aren't to be confused with the "large print" version of books. These new books will still fit on the same shelf at the airport store, so boomers will be...

The self-proclaimed High Priest of the Church of the Painful Truth is power-walking through Concourse B at an impressive pace for a man limping on a recuperating knee. He's on a scouting mission: Are shops at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport stocking his latest book? Is he curious? In need of an ego boost? "Revenge," he says in a voice Atlantans might recognize as either a jolting cold shower of meanness or an invigorating brew of straight talk on the radio. Neal Boortz is a New York Times best-selling author. So, as Boortz loves to say on air, "Bite me." His literary...

It is the ultimate Washington story, told by the ultimate Washington chronicler. But in Washington and just about everywhere else, sales of "The Secret Man," Bob Woodward's story of the source known as Deep Throat, have been underwhelming. At Politics and Prose, a well-known independent bookstore in Washington, sales were "not very good, compared to expectations," said Mark LaFramboise, who ordered 400 copies of the book for the store. As of last week, Politics and Prose had sold "60-something," he said. "I expected it to be a blockbuster," he said. "I was wrong." At Prairie Lights Books in Iowa City,...

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU !!!!We got the word just as we were arriving at our Gainesville, Florida hotel.  The FairTax Book will debut at No. 1 on the New York Times non-fiction bestseller's list.  In a word .... unbelievable.  Last winter I spent week after week doing my radio show, grabbing a sandwich for lunch, and then sitting down in front of the word processor and stacks of research to pound out my portion of this book.  Congressman Linder was doing the same thing at his home in Washington DC or Atlanta.  We both believe totally in...

The New York Times has egg on its face over its manipulative coverage about the success of Edward Klein's new book, "The Truth About Hillary." But don't expect it to admit to its bias anytime soon. Last Sunday the New York Times "Week in Review" reported that sales for Ed Klein's book, "The Truth About Hillary," were dropping dramatically. "After a strong start, it's sinking," Times reporter Edward Wyatt claimed. Wyatt then added, "Maybe the truth about Hillary Clinton is not that interesting after all." Wyatt made the claim though the book immediately hit his paper's best-seller list the first...

Despite the enormous hype surrounding Edward Klein's scathing and hearsay-filled book about Hillary Rodham Clinton, the author has been ignored by all but two television talk shows. This collective cold shoulder hasn't stopped "The Truth About Hillary" from hitting No. 2 yesterday on the coveted New York Times list. "It's the biggest example to date of how major media censorship doesn't stop a book anymore from being a bestseller," Klein declares. Censorship is clearly the wrong word, since networks have no obligation to interview any author. The refusal to book Klein could just as easily be viewed as the drawing...

Edward Klein's book "The Truth About Hillary" has made the New York Times best-seller list for the second week in a row - a development that has the Times book review spitting mad. As NewsMax reported over a week ago, Klein debuted on the Times list this week in the No. 2 slot. Despite an orchestrated campaign to keep Klein off major TV talk shows, NewsMax has learned that the best-selling author will be on the Times list next week as well, in the No. 4 position. The liberal Gray Lady apparently doesn't like the fact that one of its...

  • Time to curtail "Harry Potter" Book 6 midnight sales?

Given the horror of the terrorist attacks on July 7, 2005, you really have to wonder would Bloomsbury and/or Scholastic (the British and US publishers of the Harry Potter books) start advising booksellers NOT to hold midnight sales July 16, 2005 of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. Crazy suggestion? I don't think so. Look at the last time back in 2003 when Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix was released--there were frequently thousands of adults and children at the bookstore waiting for the release of the book. Alas, such a crowd situation is too tempting a target...
  • Wanted: Book Stocker at you local Barnes & Noble

I have been an unpayed employee of Barnes and Noble for the last 5 years. It usually only takes about 10 minutes per trip to replace the old books that are still on the front of all the displays (Al Franken, both Clinton's, Moore-on etc.). I replace them with books that are the "actual" new releases and best sellers, which happen to be conservative. The concept of making money by selling interesting books that people actually want apparently escapes them. That is why I'm glad to help.

SEATTLE (AP) - Soon after Amazon.com Inc. (AMZN) debuted 10 years ago, Jeff Bezos and his handful of employees spent late summer nights packing books in a tiny warehouse, scrambling to ship a growing gush of orders. Today, the man who has grown accustomed to being hailed the king of Internet commerce runs a global powerhouse that did nearly $7 billion in sales last year, dealing in everything from banjo cases to wild boar baby back ribs. As more businesses beef up their online operations, is the company that helped get it all started in danger of seeing its dominance...

Bill Clinton's memoir joins 'Harry Potter' as a bestseller in Iranian bookshops By Agence France Presse (AFP) Friday, July 01, 2005 TEHRAN: Iranians may shout "Death to America" and burn the Stars and Stripes in demonstrations, but the memoir of former U.S. President Bill Clinton is on its way to becoming a runaway bestseller in the country. According to publisher Farhang Fattemi, who has just released the book, "many Iranians like the United States and want to hear history straight from the horse's mouth." First published in the U.S. last summer, "My Life" has hit the shelves in Iran in...
