On local San Diego radio, I heard a short interview with a John K. Stahl. He aims to run against congressman Brian Bilbray (R) in 2012. Stahl spoke of being a former Navy vet, his business experience (at Raytheon) and intent on challenging Bilbray from the right. I did a bit of searching and found he's run for congress before. In 1994, he challenged a 14 year incumbent, E. Clay Shaw Jr., a Republican representing FL's the 22nd district (Palm Beach, Broward, Miami-Dade). U.S. Congressman Duncan Hunter (R-El Cajon) Tuesday introduced bipartisan legislation, the Unlawful Border Entry Prevention Act, to allow for additional infrastructure to be built along the Southwest border. The bill provides the Secretary of Homeland Security with full discretionary authority to build as much as 350 miles of additional infrastructure on the border. The legislation is co-sponsored by congressmen Heath Shuler (D-N.C.), Tim Ryan (D-Ohio), Mike McIntyre (D-N.C.), Vista’s Brian Bilbray (R-Calif.), Ed Royce (R-Calif.) and Ted Poe (R-Texas). It follows a report by the Government Accountability Office, stating that only 44 percent of the Southwest border is under operation...

A bill introduced in Congress today could lead to an additional 350 miles of fencing along the southwest border and would require the Department of Homeland Security to report to Congress when apprehension activity climbs 40 percent year over year, if it is approved. Rep. Duncan Hunter, R-Alpine, authored the bill, titled “Unlawful Border Entry Prevention Act,” in response to a Government Accountability Report that found 44 percent of the southwest border is under “operational control” and 15 percent is totally secure. The legislation is co-sponsored by Republicans Brian Bilbray, Solana Beach, Ed Royce, Fullerton, and Ted Poe, Texas, and...

The year 2011 is noteworthy since it will be the tenth anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. It is also a year when the Republicans will gain control of the House and have a strong say in the Senate. American Thinker interviewed some influential Congressmen and former CIA officials to gain insight on what can be expected in 2011. Mike Rogers (R-MI), the newly appointed Chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, wants to challenge and review the status quo presented by the Obama Administration by asking the hard questions through public and closed door hearings. He is going to make sure...

A California Republican congressman on Friday would not apologize for a comment about immigrants he made in April in the context of Arizona's controversial new immigration law. The law requires that state law enforcement officials ask for identification from people they suspect are in the country illegally if they are stopped for other reasons. Critics say that could lead to racial profiling of Latinos. Rep. Brian Bilbray -- a supporter of the law -- was asked on MSNBC in late April how officers could identify illegal immigrants without using ethnic characteristics. "They will look at the kind of dress they...

It is called Hardball, but never before on the MSNBC show or elsewhere have I seen a member of Congress pull this kind of stunt on a colleague. Even Chris Matthews was surprised by the nasty tactic . . . Rep. Debbie Wasserman-Schultz (D-Fl.) and Brian Bilbray (R-Calif.) appeared on this afternoon’s Hardball to debate the just-concluded House vote on the stimulus. Like all Republicans, Bilbray voted against it. Presumably trying to hit Bilbray where it really hurts, at one point Wasserman-Schultz cited the supposed number of new jobs that Bilbray voted against . . . in his own district....

At 11:30 am today, right as the ground breaking ceremony with Brian Bilbray and Duncan Hunter was getting underway at the bottom of Smuggler's Gulch, four Bush-McCain-Kennedy "guest workers" decided to invade the sovereign territory of the United States (sans permission) just a couple hundred yards to the east on the high ground. Apparently, they figured the distraction of the nearby ceremony would be a great time to sneak past the Border Patrol who were all down in the gulch. An American Patriot driving towards Smuggler's via the border road spotted 4 in the bushes, got out and snapped these...

Without offering evidence that could be independently verified, Democratic congressional candidate Francine Busby and her top campaign aide alleged yesterday that Republican Rep. Brian Bilbray is the target of a criminal fraud investigation. Rumors of a county grand jury investigation of Bilbray's residency status have circulated in recent weeks, with Busby campaign operatives seeking to generate interest among several news outlets, none of which confirmed an investigation. At a news conference yesterday, with the Nov. 7 election less than four weeks away, Busby campaign manager Ray Drew said he had been contacted by several anonymous callers who said they are...

There is an old joke that goes something like this. Q. How do you know a politician is lying? A. His lips are moving. Obviously this catches the public's disgust with politicians that say one thing and do another. This is one of the reasons citizen's groups want things in writing. They send questionnaires out hoping to put these politicians in ink on various topics. They believe that at least having something writing will keep politicians honest. In March of this year former Congressman Brian Bilbray was running for the 50th Congressional Seat after Duke Cunningham resigned in disgrace. Bilbray...

Illegal Aliens: A Few Myths to Keep in Mind . . . Mexico City. Last Tuesday the Pew Hispanic Center announced that 41 percent of Mexicans surveyed in February and 46 percent questioned in May stated they would live in the United States if given "the means and opportunity." Indeed, two out of 10 people interviewed said they were prepared to enter the U.S. illegally. These figures could have amazing consequences because our Spanish- speaking neighbor has a population of nearly 106 million inhabitants.

Bringing San Diego to the forefront of the immigration debate, House Republicans will hold field hearings on the issue Wednesday at an Imperial Beach border patrol station. Two opposing immigration bills from the House and Senate will head for negotiations after the hearings senators and representatives are holding across the country this summer. San Diego area representatives have been heavily involved in the debate, some authoring sections of the House bill. Measures proposed in the House bill, H.R. 4437, include: making illegal presence in the country a felony, building 698 miles of fencing along the border, requiring employers to use...

SAN DIEGO – Three local congressmen have introduced a bill that would transfer the Mount Soledad cross from city control to the federal government, a step they hope will preserve the La Jolla landmark. Reps. Duncan Hunter, R-Alpine, Brian Bilbray, R-Carlsbad and Darrell Issa, R-Vista, sponsored the bill, which Hunter introduced late Monday. The city has been ordered by the court to remove the 29-foot cross from city property by Aug. 1 or pay a fine of $5,000 a day. A judge has ruled it is an unconstitutional preference of religion for the cross to be displayed on public property....

The newest member of the House of Representatives said today that illegal immigration was the sole issue that brought him victory in last week's special election in California. Republican Brian P. Bilbray took his oath of office for his seat in California's 50th District, one of the closest congressional districts to the border. He fills the seat left vacant by former Rep. Randy "Duke" Cunningham, a felon serving jail time for accepting bribes on behalf of defense contractors. "We did not enjoy the situation or appreciate the problem that created the vacancy, but let me say quite clearly, what is...

When President Bush nominated Gen. Michael Hayden to run the CIA, the press focused on disapproving Democrats and even some Republicans who were dubious about confirmation. A month later, when the Senate confirmed Hayden by a 78-15 vote, the story was given much less emphasis in the media, which had moved on to other stories critical of the Bush administration. Similarly, when Bush nominated one of his aides, Brett Kavanaugh, to the federal judiciary, the press was filled with reports about Democrats threatening a filibuster because Kavanaugh once worked for special prosecutor Kenneth Starr in the case against President Clinton....

SAN DIEGO -- It is now more than just mudslinging in the race for the 50th Congressional District. Wednesday, the Democratic Party called for an investigation into allegations of perjury and voter fraud against Republican candidate Brian Bilbray. Democrats said the proof is in property records from three homes and Bilbray’s declaration of candidacy. These are serious allegations against a man who has run a campaign saying San Diego is and always will be his home. The ad states San Diego is the home where Republican congressional candidate Bilbray said he lives. “I live in Carlsbad, taking care of my...

Former U.S. Rep Hopes to Return to DC to Tackle U.S. Immigration Policy By Chad Groening January 17, 2006 (AgapePress) - A former U.S. representative from California says the University of California System's policy of offering in-state tuition fees to illegal aliens is just one example of how many state institutions discriminate against U.S. citizens while favoring illegal immigrants with special benefits in violation of federal law. Republican Brian Bilbray is running for the 50th Congressional District seat vacated by Randy "Duke" Cunningham. An election schedule to replace disgraced former Rep. Randy "Duke" Cunningham caused at least one candidate to drop out of the 50th District race yesterday and could force those seeking the seat to run in as many as up to three races in two months. Candidates will vie in a special primary election April 11 to serve the last six months of Cunningham's term. Then, on June 6, there could possibly be a runoff, the same day as a separate primary for the full two-year term. "We're sort of in uncharted waters," said Joe Justin, a consultant for state Sen....

SACRAMENTO (AP) - A group of out-of-state college students filed a class-action lawsuit Wednesday challenging a law that lets some illegal immigrants who graduate from California high schools pay lower in-state fees at the state's public colleges and universities. The 2002 law allows students who attend at least three years of high school in California to qualify for the same in-state fee break given California citizens, regardless of their immigration status. The lawsuit was filed in Yolo County on behalf of 42 plaintiffs, including two children of a former San Diego congressman. Attorneys for the plaintiffs said the discriminatory policy...
