Rep. Markwayne Mullin (R-OK) has reportedly gone missing after attempting a rogue evacuation mission to rescue five American citizens that President Joe Biden’s administration left behind in Afghanistan. According to the Washington Post, U.S. officials are now “unsure of Mullin’s location” after he requested help from the U.S. Embassy in Tajikistan on Monday with his evacuation of a woman and her four children. From the report:

Lawmakers and military officials are reportedly outraged after the United States gave the Taliban a list of the names of Americans and Afghan allies to evacuate. According to a report from Politico on Thursday, American officials in Kabul "gave the Taliban a list of names of American citizens, green card holders and Afghan allies to grant entry into the militant-controlled outer perimeter of the city's airport." The report says this was intended to "expedite" the evacuation efforts but that the move has drawn outrage from military officials and from lawmakers.

Democrat election lawyer Marc Elias, a key figure in the “Russia collusion” hoax, has parted ways with the Perkins Coie law firm, ahead of the anticipated release of Special Counsel John Durham’s report into the origins of the Russia inquiry. < snip > Constitutional law scholar Jonathan Turley, who has followed Elias closely, called his departure significant Sunday, as it came “before the release of the John Durham report.” It is not yet clear whether that report will be made public.

The Supreme Court on Thursday night lifted New York’s pandemic-related ban on residential evictions, siding with a group of landlords who said their rights were being violated. The short emergency order was opposed by the court’s three liberal justices, who noted the moratorium was scheduled to expire at the end of the month. “We must balance against the landlords’ hardship the hardship to New York tenants who have relied on [the law’s] protections and will now be forced to face eviction proceedings earlier than expected,” wrote Justice Stephen G. Breyer. He said ending the moratorium early “may lead to unnecessary...
  • Dow sinks nearly 800 points as Delta variant fears hit Wall Street hard

Energy stocks plummeted as well following a more than 3% drop in oil prices. Chevron (CVX) and Exxon Mobil (XOM) were down nearly 3%.The OPEC+ group of nations also agreed over the weekend on a deal to produce more oil, a move that could boost supply and reduce crude prices. Long-term bond rates continued to slide as well, a sign that fixed income investors are now far more worried about a Delta variant-induced economic slowdown than they are about rising inflation fears. The yield on the 10-year US Treasury sank below 1.2% for the first time since February. But as...

President Biden stumbled several times while running up the steps of Air Force One on Friday, new video shows. The 78-year-old commander in chief tripped twice before falling over the third time as he flew up the stairs of the idling aircraft at Joint Base Andrews. After recovering, Biden appeared to take a moment to dust off his knee before finally making his way to the top. He then gave a salute before ducking into the cabin to take off for Georgia.
  • $1.6 Trillion Gone: Nasdaq Stock Implosion Gets Really Expensive

Investors reaped enormous wealth riding S&P 500 and Nasdaq stocks' breathless run higher. But that's making for some giant-size losses on the way down. Stocks in the Nasdaq 100, including technology giant Apple (AAPL), consumer discretionary Tesla (TSLA) and Amazon.com (AMZN), dropped $1.6 trillion in value since the index's closing high this year on Feb. 12, says an Investor's Business Daily analysis of data from S&P Global Market Intelligence and MarketSmith. That massive loss in Nasdaq 100 stocks amounts to roughly a tenth of the market's $18 trillion gain since the pandemic lows nearly a year ago, says Wilshire Associates.
  • Breaking: Crude Oil Prices Spike on Saudi and OPEC Surprise

Oil prices are soaring on the back of Saudi Arabia and OPEC’s decision to roll over existing cuts throughout April. Like many and including myself, this was the lowest likely outcome with the consensus set for a 500kbpd increase in production. However, that is what has turned out and as a result, WTI and Brent crude futures are up a lofty 5% with the latter at the highest level since January 2020. In light of this outcome, there seems to be little in the way that prevent Brent crude futures hitting $70 in the very short term. It is important...

Brent Crude prices could hit $70 a barrel in the second quarter of 2021, while they are set to average $60 this year, Bank of America said this week, raising its average price outlook by $10 a barrel from its previous projection. Echoing Bank of America, Morgan Stanley also sees Brent touching the $70 mark this year, but a bit later - in the third quarter, expecting “a much-improved market,” including on the demand side. On Sunday, Goldman Sachs started the investment banks’ upgrades of oil price forecasts, expecting Brent Crude prices to hit $75 a barrel in the third...

"The foundation of the rise is the fact that the coronavirus situation continues to improve, pushing global oil demand higher as production continues to lag, pushing U.S. gas prices higher," said Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis for GasBuddy. "Until OPEC intercedes and raises oil production in the months ahead, motorists should continue to expect rising gas prices."

Sicknick died after defending the Capitol on Jan. 6 against the mob that stormed the building and interrupted the electoral count after then-President Donald Trump urged supporters on the National Mall to “fight like hell” to overturn his defeat. The U.S. Capitol Police said in a statement that Sicknick, who died the next day, was injured “while physically engaging with protesters,” though a final cause of death has not yet been determined.

Many FReepers attended the Capitol March – PLEASE CHIME IN. Here’s what I saw: I was not in the Capitol building, but just outside near the stairs. The media reports are misleading and nothing like what happened on the ground. It seems very few of the talking-head story tellers were actually there. As far as “violence” - I’ve seen some videos of mashing around with fencing and some pushing and shoving, but still haven’t seen any real “violence” on video or first-hand. There were broken windows, property damage and vandalism – for which people should be charged. If someone hurt...

Sen.-elect Tommy Tuberville (R-Ala.) indicated in a video that surfaced Thursday that that he thinks the Senate should support a challenge to the results of the Electoral College, which certified President-elect Joe Biden’s victory this week. Tuberville suggested he would back a challenge Rep. Mo Brooks (R-Ala.) has vowed to bring against the vote. If a senator joins Brooks, it would require the House and Senate to debate and then vote on the issue.

Republican strategist Karl Rove said on this week’s broadcast “Fox News Sunday” that President Donald Trump should be aware Americans do not like “sore losers.” Anchor Chris Wallace asked, “The Electoral College votes tomorrow, and then on January 6, the Congress actually counts the votes and formally declares a winner. Do you expect President Trump to continue to contest the election past tomorrow, maybe even past January 6, and do you think he’s either helping or hurting both himself and the country?” < snip > He added, “As to your second question, it depends on — the answer to that...

Monica Palmer and William Hartmann, the two Republicans on the four-member board of canvassers, originally offered no explanation for why they changed course, but abruptly did Tuesday evening hours after voting against certification of the results. By Wednesday night, Palmer and Hartmann had signed onto affidavits alleging that they had been pressured to certify the results under a false promise that Democrats would agree to an audit in Detriot, according to the Washington Post, which has reviewed the documents.
