A maroon-colored Ford Taurus was stolen in Wichita, KS, this afternoon. It was stolen in the vicinity of 19th and Arkansas. Anyone familiar with part of Wichita knows that this area in where the majority of Mexican immigrants live. The Taurus ended up in the parking lot of St. Patrick's Church/School. The driver of the stolen Taurus was apparently doing donuts, peeling out, and generally showing off for onlookers. The owner of the Taurus was a Mexican woman who appeared to be in her mid-30's. According to police, she got into the passenger side of late model Mercury Cougar, driven...

I've read countless articles and watched endless coverage of the recent terror threat involving overseas flights. My question is this: Who's currently in control of the liquid explosives that were thought to have been being used?...the Good Guys, or the Bad Guys?....

Few people realize that, until just recently, Mayonaize was considered a delicacy South or the Border. At the turn of the century, Mexico had no means to preserve the spread, therefore all mayonaize was shipped to the state in the refrigerated holds of cargo- and passenger-liners. The President of Mexico loved Mayonaize so much, that he used state funds to purchase just over 14,000 pounds of the condiment, thereby giving every household in Mexico an opportunity to at least sample the stuff. The shipment was scheduled for delivery at the end of April, 1912. The entire Mexican nation waited in...

We adopted him from the pound when he was a puppy just under four years ago. He immediatley fit in with our family with no "adjustment". Our kids named him Balto, after the famous dog from the Alaskan tundra. We have a huge yard and his body was made for running. He was happiest when chasing squirrels or rabbits. He was my faithful companion, never leaving my side when I was at home. Duke, the Lab, lives for the kids. Balto lived for only me. He developed a very quickly degenerative bone condition in his hind end only three weeks...

Tomorrow, 11/21/04 is a big day for us... Because of repetative problems, we are withdrawing our boys from Wichita Public Schools to home-school. All the proper forms are in place, and there is nothing to do now but walk and get thier stuff. We have been told that the district will fight us over the legalities of this decision and we are nervous, but prepared to fight. I respectfully request a few quick prayers for strength, encouragement, and to generally put our minds at ease to know we are doing the right thing.

Little Guantanamo and the Republican Convention by Erin Starr My 21-year old daughter disappeared from NYC last Tuesday afternoon when walking with friends through a park where no protest was being held -- and was held prisoner -- without being charged -- by the NYPD for three days. The first day and night she spent in an unsafe and inhumane facility at Pier 57 ("Little Guantanamo") provided by the Republican Party. Yes, it was managed by the Republican National Committee. It was leased by the RNC to hold political dissenters who disagreed with the Bush administration. The second two days,...

Mega kudos to my wife, fellow freepers. Here's how her day went: After she dropped the kids off at school, she kept thinking that she heard a dog's cry for help. The nieghbor across the street (he got my lab for me) said that he could barely hear it also. It was very faint, and it was one of those sounds that you are not really sure that you are hearing. Anyways, the nieghbor across the street left for work, and my wife, all alone was haunted by the sound she kept thinking that she heard, It wasn't until Duke...

Any rockers here familiar with the works of Kerry Livgren? As a musician, and a Kansan, I've have always liked his music. He is a founding member of the rock group "Kansas". Well, Kansas went through several personnel changes before it became the band most of us are familiar with. Proto-kaw is the 2nd line-up of the band. Some of these guys haven't played for 30 years. They got back together and recorded a CD. They will be in Wichita this month so I looked them up. Everything Kerry Livgren does has a Christian flair to it. (Think about the...

I am currently in a debate about the ACLU. This is the last thing I've recv'd. Ideas for a response? "Gee, I always thought that the ACLU was about as conservative as you could get. The Michigan Branch recently filed a suit on behalf of a HS Senior who was not allowed to put in a bible verse under her picture in the yearbook. They have been know to file suit for the KKK, Libertarians, religious groups, everybody. They only thing they are interested in is the constitution and civil liberties. This seems like a conservative view to me. I...

Anyone here ever taken an on-line course from Executrain? I'm doing some courses for work that the company has paid for. The course content is very good. I'm taken computer courses such as PowerPoint, Access, etc (Office Computer and Presentation type stuff). I do not like the way everytrhing is presented in a shockwave format....I don't need to see what they want me to learn in a cartoon -- I'm an adult. Anyhow, I can fly through the courses, but when it is test time, my system (or their site) freezes up on the first answer. So, if you go...

BTK Back? KAKE News A letter sent to the Wichita Eagle is believed to be from the BTK killer. The BTK killer hasn't been heard from in decades. Now it appears he may be back. BTK stands for "bind torture and kill." The seven homicides linked to BTK have never been solved, and 30 years after the serial killings began, investigators are still working on the case. And now, a fresh lead, a letter, believed to be from the BTK killer shows up at the Wichita Eagle. KAKE-TV has confirmed that some time late last week, the Wichita Eagle newspaper...
