When Ronald Regan passed away he was 93 years old. Obviously he was born at the beginning of the 20th century. Does anyone know when his parents were born. They probably began life close to the end of the Civil War. His grandparents may have been born prior to the Civil War or very close to that time. Put it in perspective as to when your parents and grandparents entered life. Has anyone read a book that mentions the Regan family history?

Your statement that Hitchens is a "vile little man" is quite appropriate. I did not see the show that you reference but I have read his articles and have seen him on TV before.
He was a visiting professor at the Univ. of Pittsburgh a few years ago (I was also at Pitt)
Anyway I found him to be a lacking good personal hygiene, smoked heavily which gave him very bad breath, I think that he was intoxicated a great deal of the time and finally,I felt that his positions were based on negativity not on a philosophy or belief or a deep feeling.
There will probably be some defenders on this site as he criticized Bill Clinton quite a bit.
    Anyway that's my observation.
  • Alice Kerr Lost KY Battle on Her Own Turf

Kerr's loss can only be pinned on Mitch McConnell and his ego.
    1. He thought that he could choose the candidate instead of letting the Republican voters decided who to send into the election.
    2. Kerr is an undistinguished State Senator.
    3. Bush and Cheney said that they would make a campaign visit then did not show up. Makes you wonder why?

Mitch thought whatever he said would go and forgot that the voters do matter.
People better wake up and get their act together instead of being sheep.

Per the Louisville Courier-Journal both Bush and Cheney have decided not to visit the district in support of the candidate.
I think that McConnell will see that she has enough money for the campaign but it would be nice to have a celebrity guest appearance to boost visibility and excite the troops.

    Dear Sirs:
I understand your disagreement with Sen Specter on some of his positions. However, when I lived in PA and worked in the steel industry I wrote letters to Sens. Specter, Santorum and Gov. Ridge.
I always received individual well written responses from Sen. Specter. I must truly admit that the responses from Messers. Ridge and Santorum were standard issue and did not address my points nor did they show an understanding of the issues facing the steel industry.
I no longer live in PA and I am not familiar with Mr. Toomey but I feel that Sen Specter has been one of the better Senators from either party that I am aware of. I supported him when I lived in PA and would support him again.
    Thank you.
