I think it’s important to remember that the JDL is not associated in any way with the Anti-Defamation League. The JDL is a militant nutcase bunch that has traditionally supported violent extremism in “defense” against antisemitism. It’s that Rabbi Meir Kahane outfit. They don’t a reputation for fair-mindedness (to put it mildly).

I'm looking for all the opinions I can get, because I'm really torn on this. She MUST be highly intelligent, to have accomplished as much as she has. She MUST be a good politician--you don't get to be the head of your law firm or president of a bar association otherwise. She sounds like a very NICE person, and she's devout in her faith.

On the other hand. Call it sexism or parochialism or whatever -- but as a woman myself, I want the next woman justice to be BRILLIANT, articulate, persuasive, someone who'll build a legacy I can be really proud of on both a conservative and an intellectual level.

Instead, all I know so far is that she's a nice, intelligent, religious politician. I'm sorry, but for a lifetime appointment on the Supreme Court that's way not good enough.

And comments like Robert Bork's don't make me one bit happier.

Has anybody posted the name yet? Apparently it's James Pavitt. The DUers have this bit of CNN transcript up:

    CNN - 6:06 pm EDT - 6/3/04

Kitty Pilgrim: David, there's late word tonight of another resignation to come at the CIA. What do you know about that?

David Ensor: Yes, I gather from US officials that James Pavitt, the Director of Operations at the CIA, the man really in charge of human intelligence, the spies. James Pavitt will announce his resignation to his staff tomorrow morning, he plans to leave later this summer. Now, officials are stressing that this was planned before, several weeks ago, that it has nothing to do with Tenet leaving, in fact, he didn't know Tenet planned to announce his resignation. I did speak with someone at the Agency who confirmed that yes, Pavitt had planned to leave weeks ago.

No, 68 is the number of U.S. military deaths in May, at least according to globalsecurity.org.

According to lunaville.org, there've been 65 deaths and 190 wounded in action.
