Ten years ago tonight, President George W. Bush addressed a Joint Session of Congress, nine days after the 9/11 attacks. C-SPAN has archived video from the evening. On the podium were Speaker of the House Dennis Hastert and President Pro Tempore Robert Byrd.

The Lakers win their 15th organizational title, and 10th in Los Angeles, in their 30th Finals appearance. They defeat the Orlando Magic, 99-86 in Game 5, and win the series 4 games to 1. Kobe Bryant was named MVP of the Finals.

Two important numbers for the Los Angeles Lakers: 27 and 30. Twenty seven was their margin of victory, winning 119 to 92 in Denver. The other number - 30 - is the number of appearances they will have made as a result of winning this game. A possible turning point in the game, during which the home Nuggets rarely led: with 8:55 in the 3rd quarter, the Lakers committed their fifth team foul, allowing the Nuggets to shoot free throws for every subsequent foul. There was only one subsequent Laker team foul in that quarter, and that was five game...

I love the sound of a quiet Garden. Orlando 101, Boston 82. So the "Final Four" is set: Denver vs. LAKERS, starting Tuesday; Orlando vs. CAVALIERS, starting Wednesday.

Tampa Bay has just defeated the defending World Series champion Boston Red Sox in Game 7, by the score of 3-1. The Rays had led 3 games to 1, and 7-0 in the 7th inning of Game 5, before the Sox won that game, and the next, to force tonight's Game 7. The Rays, by virtue of the AL's win in the All Star Game, will have home field advantage against the Philadelphia Phillies, who eliminated the Los Angeles Dodgers in five games, last Wednesday. Game 1 of the World Series will be Wednesday night, October 22, on FOX. The...

The Boston Red Sox, down 7-0 in the 7th inning, score 4 in the 7th, 3 in the 8th inning, and one in the bottom of the ninth to survive in their series against the Tampa Bay Rays. The series now switches to Tampa for Game 6 on Saturday, and - if necessary - Game 7 on Sunday. Tampa now leads 3-2.

The transcript of the fourth and final debate of the 2008 election season is now posted at the Commission on Presidential Debates' official website, www.debates.org. Also available at this site are the transcripts from the other two presidential debates and the vice presidential debate between Governor Sarah Palin and Senator Joseph Biden. For a historical perspective, you can read transcripts going all the way back to 1980, Reagan vs. Carter. Enjoy!

Hi to all, I did a search but couldn't find another listing. The transcript is already up, as is the transcript from the first debate between Senators McCain and Obama. You can also find transcripts of previous debates going all the way back to Reagan/Carter in 1980. Enjoy!

Going into Sunday December 16, two perfect streaks were intact. The New England Patriots were undefeated; the Miami Dolphins were winless. Both teams hosted their respective games, a week ahead of what was to be a head-to-head matchup. While the Patriots held up their part of the bargain, beating the Jets 20-10, the Dolphins and the Baltimore Ravens were in a struggle, and in fact, Miami had a great chance to win the game in regulation, taking a late 16-13 lead. However, on the ensuing kickoff, the Miami kicker committed the cardinal sin of kicking the ball out of bounds,...

Colorado now has won 7 straight playoff games, 8 if you count the play-in game against the Padres, and have lost only one game in the last month. They now await the winner of the Indians - Red Sox series, which the Indians lead 2 games to 1.
-
The MLB playoff picture is now complete. And what a way to complete it. The Padres led 8-6, in the 14th inning, with all time saves leader Trevor Hoffman on the mound...bring on the Phillies, right? Uh...no. Details to follow.

Happy Birthday, Mr. President.

This speech was previewed on FNC this morning. I checked the other channels, Fox appears to be the only one showing him live.

Vanderbilt beats #1 Florida by double digits. Likely that Ohio State will flip to #1 and Florida will go to #2. UCLA may move up from #5, though the Arizona schools they swept are not as formidable as they once were. Mods, I hope I put this in the right place.

Good morning to all, I am watching Fox News Channel, and the Dow has crossed 12,000. As of this type, it is up 90.61 at 12,041.99. Of course, it is changing faster than I can type it, so I'll let those more qualified than me, keep up with it.

Just watching the Dodgers' game against the San Diego Padres, a team that owns the Dodgers (about as much as does the St. Louis Cardinals). For example, the Dodgers have one win at home against San Diego, versus 8 or 9 losses...including the last two. The Padres are 1/2 game ahead of the Dodgers for the National League West division. The Padres went into the bottom of the ninth inning, at Dodger Stadium, trailing the Padres 9-5. Four batters later, the Dodgers had tied the game at 9, thanks to four straight home runs, courtesy of Jeff Kent, J.D. Drew...

Who is this substitute leftist? She makes Alan Colmes sound like Alan Keyes. Well, not really, but it does illiterate. I just caught the end of it...Ann said to whoever she is, "I know you're trying to imitate Alan Colmes, but he does at some point let me answer." Did anyone see it?

I didn't see one posted, so I thought I'd get it started today. Apologies if this has already been posted. I don't have the time to set it up as well as MNJohnnie does.

Please forgive if this is in the wrong place... Bob Miller, longtime voice of the hockey Los Angeles Kings, just announced on Fox Sports Net that Wayne Gretzky's mother, Phyllis, has passed away. Gretzky, the highest scoring player in NHL history, and coach of the Pacific Division Phoenix Coyotes, had taken an indefinite leave of absence just days ago, to attend to his mother. Assistant Rick Tocchet, himself a former hockey player and King, was to assume the reins until Gretzky's return. The Kings have extended their organization's thoughts, prayers and condolences to the Gretzky family.

Good evening FReepers! Someone posted a collection of "taglines" a few weeks ago. I thought I would follow up with some that caught my eye. I stopped at 243 taglines: 2, for the terms to which George W. Bush was elected President; and 43, the number of his Presidency. Feel free to pick your favorite, or to add some of your vintage taglines. Some make you laugh, some make you cry, some make you think, some make you call out the Viking Kitties. Enjoy. -------------------------------------- ADemocratNoMore (Jeepers, Freepers, where'd 'ya get those sleepers?. Pj people, exposing old media's lies.) 12/16/2005...
