Last week, the U.S. House of Representatives passed by a vote of 240 to 189, the Shays-Meehan campaign finance reform bill. Senate majority leader Tom Daschle has promised to "bring it to the floor without hesitation and with great enthusiasm" where it is also expected to pass. While the bill purports to have the noble goal of reducing political corruption and cleaning up elections, rarely are such actions by Congress so laudable. In reality, the bill is the most blatant violation of freedom of speech, as well as an attempt to stifle political competition, ever proposed with a straight face. ...

Today was a difficult day. I ask anyone who can, to pray for my wife, Michelle. She was admitted last night to the hospital with flu like symptoms. Today I learned from the docs that she has developed a bacterial meningitis. I've seen prayer requests on Free Republic before and have said a few for those that have had difficult times. A Fairfax County man was jailed Feb. 16 for not planting trees, according to former Loudoun County Supervisor Steve Whitener. The incident, according to Whitener, involves a dispute over 1000 trees that John Thoburn, of Vienna, agreed to plant at his Golf Park on Hunter Mill Road. According to Whitener, Thoburn was cited with contempt of court, jailed, and fined for a zoning dispute. A spokesperson for Thoburn, quoted in a statement released by Whitener, blamed the incident on “overzealous bureaucrats with unrestricted powers over the property rights of its citizens.”

According to the link above Volusia County had 0 votes for any third party. Anyone else find it odd that no one out of 180k people voted for a third party? Were they not on the ballot or what?
