A jury awarded $55 million to Fox Sports reporter Erin Andrews in her lawsuit against a Nashville Marriott hotel on Monday. Andrews sued the hotel alleging it acted negligently when allowing a man who was stalking her to book the room next to hers and surreptitiously film nude videos of her in 2008 while she worked for ESPN. The stalker, Michael David Barrett, posted the videos online and pleaded guilty to stalking charges, for which he was sentenced to 30 months in prison.

Police said the shooting took place inside a vacant apartment at 120 Washington Avenue at 2:40 a.m. When they arrived, police found multiple people suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. Friends say 19-year-old Pablo Villeda Estrada was killed. Officials say the teen was taken to Whidden Memorial Hospital where he died from his injuries.

Bail was set at $1 million Friday for a man in a wheelchair who has been charged in the fatal shooting of another man inside a gym at a high-rise apartment building on the Near West Side. Reggie Daniel, 48, faces first-degree murder charges in the killing of Darrin Joss, 45, while he worked out on an elliptical machine about 7:05 p.m. Wednesday in the eighth-floor gym of the high-rise in the 500 block of West Kinzie Street. Daniel surrendered to police early Thursday.

A Virginia daycare teacher accused of turning her classroom of 2-year-olds into a "baby fight club" was knocked out by a jury on Thursday. Kierra Spriggs was convicted of child cruelty and other abusive behavior charges after a two-week trial in the Virginia suburbs of Washington, D.C. She was found guilty of four felony counts of child cruelty and two misdemeanor counts of assault and battery, according to NBC Washington. She could get up to five years in prison on each of the felony count convictions and a year for each misdemeanor count.

The letter carrier described the suspects as four Hispanic males in their late teens and one Hispanic female in the same age range. The letter carrier said he saw the group stealing a package, and when he confronted them they pushed him to the ground and broke his glasses. Assaulting a postal employee is a federal offense that can carry a sentence of up to 20 years in prison.

An underground garage below Lincoln Center was the unlikely scene of a stabbing early Thursday morning, officials said. A 28-year-old man was stabbed twice in the head with a screwdriver by his male partner near 132 W. 65th St. outside the home of the Metropolitan Opera, New York City Ballet and the New York Philharmonic following the 5:30 a.m. stabbing, an FDNY spokesman said.

A killer who shot a man on a Manhattan street after hurling gay epithets has a longtime transsexual lover who insists the defendant is no bigot. Elliot Morales, acting as his own lawyer for the hate-crime slaying of gay stranger Mark Carson, called as his first witness a former flame whom he’d met online. The 38-year-old transsexual woman, using the pseudonym Jane Smith, testified from behind a curtain in Manhattan Supreme Court that she and Morales, 36, had a physical relationship on and off for 10 years.

Officers arrested a moped operator in the South End after he threatened another driver with a gun, according to Boston police. Giovanni Pagan, 25, of Boston, was charged with assault by means of a dangerous weapon in the road rage incident on Saturday afternoon. A police statement described his alleged actions as “reckless.”

CHICAGO (WLS) -- There have already been more than 100 homicides in Chicago this year - and it's only February. There were over 50 homicides in January alone, a 75 percent increase over January of last year. According to the Chicago Tribune, this month there have been more than 40 homicides, bringing the total for just this year to 102. Since late Friday afternoon, two people were killed and at least 17 others have been wounded in shootings across Chicago.

Legendary artist and activist Yoko Ono was rushed to a Manhattan hospital on Friday night after suffering a possible stroke, sources said. Ono, a 70s icon and wife of John Lennon, called 911 at around 9 p.m. and said she feared she was having a stroke, according to the sources.

A second person has been charged with the fatal January shooting of Vietnam veteran Robert Howard Jr. in the University Village neighborhood. Kevin Mason, 22, faces one count of first-degree murder for the Jan. 26 shooting death of the 62-year-old Howard in the 1000 block of West Maxwell Street, according to Chicago Police. Howard was found shot once in the head.

A babysitter charged with murdering a 16-month-old boy whose family lived in the same Staten Island building subjected him to hours of physical and sexual abuse while he was left in her care over the weekend, prosecutors said on Wednesday. The babysitter, Gloria Fields, made her first appearance in Criminal Court on Wednesday, where a prosecutor outlined accusations of torture that led to outbursts of sobbing and screaming from the child’s relatives and others packed into the courtroom.

NEW YORK (AP) -- A district attorney said Wednesday a young woman who accused five teenage boys of chasing away her father and gang-raping her in a playground has recanted her story and he's dropping criminal charges against them. The collapse of the case was no surprise after a series of revelations that challenged the woman's initial story that she'd been attacked by a group of boys who drove off her father with a gun to get her alone.

A Boulder County jury convicted Dynel Lane on all counts Tuesday — including attempted murder — in the vicious attack that left an expectant Longmont mother fighting for her life and claimed her unborn child. After seven hours of deliberation over two days, the jury found Lane guilty of attempted first-degree murder, two counts each of first- and second-degree assault, and unlawful termination of a pregnancy. A Charlotte woman who police believe was distracted by her cell phone drove into a stopped tractor-trailer that had been involved in a collision in Gaston County, sending her to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. The series of wrecks happened on Interstate 85 southbound near Long Avenue just before 9 a.m. Sunday. A tractor-trailer traveling in the right lane was struck by a Honda Pilot SUV that was trying to merge from the middle lane.

The driver of an M-101 bus saw the woman smoking and asked her to put out the cigarette and get off, MTA spokesman Kevin Ortiz said. The woman became irate, so the driver called for another bus to come to transfer the passengers, Ortiz said. As the driver was outside moving passengers to the second bus, Ortiz said the woman jumped into the driver’s seat and sped off.

WASHINGTON — An ex-convict who was arrested last May in a case involving the deaths of three family members and their housekeeper inside a northwest Washington mansion was indicted Wednesday on 20 felony charges including murder, kidnapping, extortion and arson.
