Is the NFL Socialist? There are many aspects about the NFL (some of which pertain to other professional sports leagues as well) that are characteristic of socialism: - The league strives for parity, letting the weakest teams from the prior season have the top draft picks, and vice versa - Television revenue is shared equally among all the teams - Salary caps dictate how much teams can spend on payroll - Taxpayers subsidize the League via stadium funding - The NFL has a control-freak image and regulates just about anything in its path There are probably other examples to further ...

I am fortunate to be self-employed and able to work at home (albeit in a blue county in Upstate NY) with Free Republic as a most welcome occasional diversion. While working I listen to the radio over the internet and I'm wondering what Conservative talk shows are available over the web? I currently listen to Mike Gallagher in the morning, Rush from 12 to 3 EST, and then Sean Hannity after Rush. Does anyone know of a website which lists Conservative talk radio or know of other good shows that I can listen to? Many thanks.

I'm wondering what happened to George W. Bush's relatively large vote lead in Florida on election night? This has received almost no follow-up here on Free Republic or elsewhere as far as I can tell. It seemed around 1 a.m. his lead was about 50,000 votes and then it shrunk to about 1,200 votes less than two hours later. Both the rapidly shrinking lead and the almost total lack of explanation/analysis anywhere strike me as odd. Maybe I missed it when I fell asleep that night or I'm looking for votes in all the wrong places. Could anyone shed light ...

I just read the post asking the question "Where's John McCain?" and I was wondering the same of Bill Daley, not that I miss him. He was all over the news until a few a few days ago, and now, nada. What's up with that?

I need clarification on how votes are totaled here in New York. On the ballot, Bush and Lazio are listed on both the Republican and Conservative Party lines. My question is, does it matter which party line I vote? Take Lazio! for example. Are the total votes of both parties considered in determining if he beats the Queen, or is it just the Republican votes? As a registered Conservative I would like to vote the Conservative line but if by doing so do I don't help defeat the Queen, then it doesn't make any sense to vote on the Conservative ...

This is my first post to Free Republic. I'm trying to find some additional Halloween decorations which properly reflect the mood here in Upstate NY as the election draws near. Does anyone have pictures or know of websites that show the Blond! Witch! Project! dressed in all her Halloween finery?
