Dear Friend: This week I introduced the West Coast Ocean Protection Act, a bill to permanently prohibit new offshore drilling along the Pacific coast

am told the section applies to exactly one state: Louisiana, the home of moderate Democrat Mary Landrieu, who has been playing hard to get on the health care bill. In other words, the bill spends two pages describing would could be written with a single world: Louisiana. (This may also help explain why the bill is long.) Senator Harry Reid, who drafted the bill, cannot pass it without the support of Louisiana’s Mary Landrieu. How much does it cost? According to the Congressional Budget Office: $100 million.

The Federal Election Commission is not likely to conduct a potentially embarrassing audit of Barack Obama’s record-breaking fundraising campaign despite allegations of questionable donations and accounting. That’s the disclosure from Politico.com, which reports that Obama will probably escape scrutiny in large part because unlike John McCain, he declined to accept $84 million in public financing.

Fellow Patriots, Shortly after publishing my essay, "The audacity of deception" last Friday, I watched Barack Obama at a Florida rally, where he asserted: "[W]e want to do this, change our tax code (AKA "redistribute the wealth"). ... John McCain and, and Sarah Palin, uh, they, they call this socialistic. You know I, I, I don't know when, when, uh, when they decided they wanted to make a virtue out of selfishness." See the video I have never been so moved to anger by any presidential campaign comment. John McCain has made "a virtue out of selfishness"? *John McCain could...

CALIFORNIA GOLD = FEINSTEIN? By David Brown You may have noticed that Mr. and Ms. Blum are in the news again. Ms. Blum, of course, does not front herself with that name, she uses 'Dianne Feinstein'. Yes, that’s Senator Dianne Feinstein. As I was saying before I interrupted myself, these two pinnacles of American society, it would appear, have been caught with their hands in the cookie jar - again. Unfortunately, it’s not the first time - only the most recent.

ONE MAN MADE THE DIFFERENCE A Veterans Journal Exclusive By David Brown In the 2000 election, President George W. Bush was elected by an uncomfortably-slim majority. The next election could be a repeat! The story behind that struggle for victory is about to be told by the man who, by single-handed tenacity, 'brought home the bacon' for George W. Bush.

WASHINGTON (AP) - Senate Democrats demanded Thursday that President Bush order a halt to personal attacks on the party's leader, Sen. Harry Reid, and expressed regret that they had failed to mount a stronger defense for his defeated predecessor. ``This is a new Democratic Party,'' Sen. Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., said at a news conference called to release a letter telling Bush to muzzle his ``political operatives.'' ``It says to the president, `You will not intimidate us','' said Schumer, who likened the attacks on Reid to political knee-cappings. The letter itself was written in milder terms. ``We urge you to keep...

Rep. Paul Ryan (R.-Wis.) was asked at a CATO conference in Washington yesterday whether he had persuaded any Democrats to back his plan to rescue Social Security from its financial troubles. Under his legislation (HR 4851), no new taxes would be needed to pay for "transition costs," participation in the new system would be voluntary and individuals would be allowed to divert a portion of their payroll tax into a mutual fund. A questioner from the audience, stressing his own Democratic credentials, said he believed Ryan's plan should attract members of his own party and wondered whether the Wisconsin lawmaker...

Judicial Watch, the public interest group that investigates and prosecutes government corruption, today asked Sen. John F. Kerry to keep his word to the American public and sign a Standard Form 180 (SF 180), “Request Pertaining to Military Records.” On Sunday, Jan. 30, 2005, during an appearance on the NBC News show “Meet the Press,” moderator Tim Russert asked Sen. Kerry (three times) if he would sign an SF 180 and release all of his military records. On the third attempt Sen. Kerry answered Mr. Russert plainly: MR. RUSSERT: Would you sign Form 180? SEN. KERRY: Yes, I will.

"Rathergate" Scandal Takes New Turn - Same CBS Source That Pronounced Phony Documents as "Genuine" Was Also Behind Abu Ghraib Prison Story on CBS In a bombshell in the CBS "Rathergate" panel report, it is revealed that Dan Rather personally assured CBS News President Andrew Heyward that the discredited Bush National Guard story was not only true but "very big." At the same time, Rather said it wasn't "as big as Abu Ghraib," the Iraqi prisoner abuse story used by CBS and other media to blacken the reputation and image of the United States around the world. What's more, it...

USA Today, the most read paper in the U.S., devoted over 2,000 words to Dan Rather's resignation from the CBS Evening News. It noted in a timeline that Rather had apologized "for a CBS story that questioned President Bush's service in the Texas Air National Guard. The story was based on documents that apparently were forged." What the paper did not mention was that it had run the same phony story, using the same bogus documents and based on the same dubious source. In contrast to CBS, no one has apologized or been held accountable for this scandal at USA...
