The election of Barack Obama to the presidency is an historic moment whose significance has not been unnoticed. Americans of all backgrounds, races, religions recognize the symbolic importance of an African-American ascending to the highest office in the country. Particularly people of color are acknowledging that indeed, America is truly is the land of opportunity. And as Colin Powell put it when he endorsed ...

The New York Times ran a feature story on July 6th, 2008 about the discovery of a stone tablet found near the Dead Sea in Jordan that apparently contains some reference to a “Prince of Princes” (ie. The Jewish Messiah) who would be slain and rise from the dead after three days. (Tablet Ignites Debate on Messiah and Resurrection”, July 6, 2008) The essence of the article and the opinion of the scholars quoted is that somehow, the credibility of Christianity is at stake, on the grounds that this pre-Christian inscription, also known in scholastic circles as “Gabriel’s Revelation”, robs...

Friday, August 1st, Barack Obama announced that he intended on seizing “excess” profits from oil companies to give families in the form of $1000 checks per family. Granted, the oil companies did make a tremendous profit this year. Obama, who has never held a job in the private sector, probably thinks that profits from oil corporations are stuffed into pillow cases and squeezed into the closets filled with other ill-gotten gain by evil Texas oil tycoons. He pictures them snickering, as they stuff it all in, reaching for more pillowcases, being careful not to inadvertently grab their Ku Klux Klan...

The uproar and condemnation of Florida’s Rep. Foley cuts across party lines, and across the country…but rings hollow in Massachusetts. It was revealed last week that Foley had written some sexually suggestive emails to some male pages in Congress. So far, all that is known is that he wrote the creepy emails, and that is enough for Democrats to demand an independent investigation and even Republicans to deny they know the man.

A new study by Harvard University is touting some of the benefits of illegal immigration, namely the fact that it has the effect of “driving down relative wages among high-skilled workers” and can increase “more tax dollars to the general coffers.” Hold it. I must have read that wrong. Nope. That’s right. Michael Kremer, the researcher, is Gates Professor of Developing Societies in the Department of Economics at Harvard University, is an affiliate of the Center for International Development and has authored a paper titled “The Globalization of Household Production.”

A small group of activists crossing the country speaking against illegal immigration, were chased out of Boston by a group of Spanish speaking immigrants Saturday while attempting to deliver a speech on Boston Common. The six “Paul Revere Riders” are traveling by motorcycle to the capital of all 48 contiguous states, speaking on the need for America to protect its own borders and the negative economic impact of illegal immigration on this country. ....

Tuesday, June 26th, the Associated Press carried the story that a scientist in Canada had discovered that “having several older brothers increases the likelihood of a man being gay”. Hundreds of papers carried the story that unambiguously led the reader to believe that this was new evidence of a “biological basis for sexual orientation.” ....

After Lexington resident David Parker exercised his statutory right last year to be notified in advance of classes about homosexuality at his son’s kindergarten class at Estabrook Elementary School in Lexington so that he could request that the boy be excused from attending them, his son (who is now in first grade) was surrounded this month by a group of students during recess, receiving multiple blows to the chest, stomach and genital area. The Parker family has been the object of constant ...

A recent “Freedom of Information” request has revealed that nearly 10,000 documents still exist that the 9/11 Commission were told were destroyed, and this may not fare very well for Barney Frank. According to Scott Malone of NavySeals.com and Christopher Law from the Public Education Center, these documents show that the CIA knew that several of the hijackers on 9/11 who were in the country were associated with Al-Qaeda. But authorities were powerless to deport them because of an amendment to an immigration law that Frank had authored.

The Comptroller of the state of New York told a group of graduating seniors at Queens College last Thursday that Senator Chuck Schumer would “put a bullet between the president's eyes if he could get away with it." The Comptroller, Alan Hevesi, intended it as a compliment to Schumer who had just addressed the families and members of the graduating class and was listening to Hevesi....

At a hearing on illegal immigration on Tuesday, Sen. Ted Kennedy demonstrated yet again why he and his immigration bill need to be thrown out. The venerable Senator seems to have no idea what he is talking about. In his apologetic on why illegal aliens deserve amnesty, he stated: “The overwhelming majority of immigrants – even those here illegally – work, pay taxes, and pay in to Social Security. In fact, undocumented immigrants pay an estimated $35 billion in taxes each year. One study reports that the average immigrant family pays $80,000 more in taxes than they consume in services.”...

Cardinal O’Malley and Rev. Hurmon Hamilton, executive board member of the Black Ministerial Alliance of Greater Boston joined nearly 8,000 immigrants in their demonstration for amnesty and more benefits at Copley Square yesterday. The Boston March was part of a nationwide event called “Day of Action” that included over 100 cities and over 1,000,000 marchers. Cardinal O’Malley’s role was expected, considering the posture other bishops and cardinals across the country have been taking,...

Governor Mitt Romney yesterday filed a bill aimed at granting exemption to Catholic Charities from the statutory prohibitions of discrimination against gays in their adoption policies. The First Amendment rights of Catholic Charities to adhere to their religious principles came under attack last week when state officials announced that the organization had to comply with state guidelines in allowing children to be placed in same-sex households, despite recent pronouncements from the Vatican and Boston’s four bishops condemning the practice.

Beacon Hill Appears Ready to Approve Bogus Cards The Mexican government has been issuing over 2 million cards a year to Mexican nationals living in the United States, in many cases to those that they know are here illegally. The "Matricula Consular" card is a form of identity used by Mexican citizens living abroad, and in the case of illegal aliens in this country perhaps the only identification a Mexican might carry if they have no documentation from the U.S., such as a green card or an entry Visa.

When a feminist group desires to bring about some shift in social policy in the U.S., the place to go is the courts of Massachusetts. Such is the case of Wal-Mart Inc., and the so-called “Plan B” contraceptive pill.
