SACRAMENTO, Calif. - It’s likely “few if any” California schools will reopen before summer break, Gov. Gavin Newsom said Tuesday as he provided a stark assessment of the implications from the spreading coronavirus that threatens to overwhelm the state’s hospitals and drain its spending reserves. While urging Californians to stay united and promising “we will get back to the life that we have lived,” Newsom also acknowledged much is unknown and so the state is preparing for frightening worst-case scenarios. He put the California National Guard on alert for duties that include humanitarian missions like ensuring proper food distribution and...

Despite multiple efforts to push the iconic A-10 Warthog's retirement date further into the future, the U.S. Air Force is now slated to shelve dozens of the Cold War-era ground-attack planes in the upcoming fiscal year, according to the service's budget request.

Democrats have become the party of thuggery, from the top leaders abusing President Trump as a traitor and criminal, to the Antifa black shirts beating up Trump supporters in Democrat cities. The ginned up hysteria over Trump’s election has grown with Trump’s triumphant successes with the economy and national security. ... President Trump did nothing to provoke the Obama intelligence community framing him as a Russian traitor. You have to look at President Obama to understand this unprecedented attempt to overturn a presidential election. Our press, including most of the conservative press, has always been unwilling to focus on Obama,...

Authorities are responding to a plane crash in the prison yard of a facility in Riverside County, according to preliminary information from the Federal Aviation Administration. About 12:10 p.m., the Riverside County Sheriff's Department received reports of an "air emergency" along the 1900 block of 4th Street in Norco. Only the pilot was in the Northrop N9M when it crashed, the FAA said in an email to KTLA, citing local authorities. No injuries were reported on the ground, but the aircraft "sustained substantial damage," the FAA said. Aerial video from Sky5 showed charred ground where the plane appears to have...

On Monday, my wife woke up with a total loss of hearing in her left ear. Looking online, it said to treat this as an emergency so she went to the ER. They admitted her to the hospital and she got a CAT scan and MRI to rule out a stroke or tumors. Apparently, it was caused by virus. She finally got an appointment with an audiologist toady who, after tested, said she has zero response in her left ear. She was given a referral to an ENT doctor on Monday for possible steroid injections directly into the middle ear....

CORNING, Calif. - Witnesses tell a chilling account of two gunman who opened fire at Rancho Tehama Elementary School near Corning Tuesday morning. Coy Ferreira, whose daughter is a kindergarten student, was dropping his daughter off for class just before 8 a.m. when he heard what sounded like a firecracker. A school secretary ran out and yelled for the kids to get in the classrooms because someone was shooting at the school. Ferreira said he ran into a classroom with 14 students. He said the series of shots came through the classroom windows, hitting one student. Ferreria said a young...

A retired Navy SEAL Team 6 hero who is transgender had a message for President Donald Trump after he announced the US military would bar transgender people from serving. "Let's meet face to face and you tell me I'm not worthy," Kristin Beck, a 20-year veteran of the Navy SEALs, told Business Insider on Wednesday. "Transgender doesn't matter. Do your service." Beck said Trump's abrupt change in policy could negatively affect many currently or wanting to serve in the military. The RAND Corporation estimated in 2016 that there were between 1,320 and 6,630 transgender people serving. Many of them just...

SOMEWHERE OVER THE POTOMAC RIVER – A sharply painted hunter green MV-22 Osprey taxies up near a hangar at the sprawling Marine Corps Base Quantico in central coastal Virginia. It has been pouring down rain and the sky is a gray soup of fog. Yet in the time it takes to walk 100 yards to the awaiting hybrid aircraft, the slick, saturated tarmac beneath the massive idling propellers has become bone dry. It’s the first indication of the massive amounts of power employed by the Osprey – part helicopter, part airplane – that the passengers on this particular flight are...

The first lady was expected to announce Thursday that the Subway sandwich chain will spend $41 million over three years to encourage finicky young eaters to eat more food that comes out of the ground or grows on trees. The announcement was being made at a Subway shop near the White House. Subway will only offer a kids’ menu that mirrors federal standards for school lunches. That includes offering apples on the side and low-fat or nonfat plain milk or water as a default beverage.

Guess how many times President Obama met one-on-one with Secretary Kathleen Sebelius from July 12, 2010 to November 30, 2013? According to Peter Schweizer of the Government Accountability Institute (GAI) writing in Politico, that number would be ZERO. We have an absent president whose best attribute is his ability to deflect responsibility and blame others. When I was in the military we prided ourselves in conducting meetings, briefings, that kept commanders informed, enabling them to make necessary decisions. A fundamental part of conducting business was preparing “Commanders Intent and Guidance” which provided the purpose, key tasks, and end state allowing...

The momentum is growing to protect gays, lesbians, transgendered and veterans in the city’s anti-discrimination laws. But some local pastors say those changes may end up violating the rights of the religious. “A religious view: either you have one or you don’t, it is still a religious view. And if I don’t attain to their view, then I’m out of the picture completely. It’s a stifling of free speech,” said Pastor Steve Branson of Village Parkway Baptist Church. Ever have a Paula Deen moment -- make an off-color joke or hold a religious belief? Branson says keep it to yourself...

This article, which examines the F-22 program from a historical perspective, seeks to answer two questions. First, given the unprecedented age of today’s fighter fleet, why did the Air Force acquire just 187 F-22s? Second, how could alternative decisions during F-22 development have enabled the service to acquire larger numbers of these aircraft? In consideration of this historical analysis, the article then assesses the Air Force’s current efforts to transition to a fleet comprised entirely of fifth-generation fighters.

Three months ago, I quoted George Jonas on the 30th anniversary of Canada's ghastly "Charter of Rights and Freedoms": "There seems to be an inverse relationship between written instruments of freedom, such as a Charter, and freedom itself," wrote Jonas. "It's as if freedom were too fragile to be put into words: If you write down your rights and freedoms, you lose them." For longer than one might have expected, the U.S. Constitution was a happy exception to that general rule – until, that is, the contortions required to reconcile a republic of limited government with the ambitions of statism...

RENO, Nev. -- Organizers of the Reno National Championship Air Races cleared a major hurdle Thursday in their bid to continue the annual event this fall, winning approval of a special one-year permit and moving closer to securing the necessary $100 million in insurance in the aftermath of last year's tragic mass-casualty crash. The future of the 48-year-old competition has been in question since a modified World War II-era plane crashed at the event in September, killing the pilot and 10 spectators, and injuring more than 70 others on the ground. The Reno-Tahoe Airport Authority's board of trustees voted unanimously...
