• Is our immigration system broken? - Vanity

I see so many discussions on the need for immigration reform. I've looked through thread after thread here And haven't found HOW the immigration system is broken. It's looking more and more like this is another case of the republicans swallowing the democrats fraudulent premise whole (yet again). From what I can see our system is working pretty closely to how it was designed (or it would be if we had border control and got rid of the anchor baby loophole). It keeps people out who aren't supposed to be here. I apologize for the vanity but I need to...

By denigrating the battleships through a misinformation campaign on Capitol Hill, the Navy has convinced both Armed Services Committee to donate our two reserve battleships, Iowa and Wisconsin, as museums. Should this maneuver succeed, our Marines will have no essential, lifesaving naval surface fire support (NSFS) for the foreseeable future.

Dear Marquette Alumni: Many of you have heard about the athletics nickname discussion that has been widely debated recently both on campus and among alumni. Marquette University's Board of Trustees decided not to reinstate "Warriors" as our athletics nickname and reopened discussion of a new nickname. The Board also authorized a process that will allow university stakeholders to vote for their preferred nickname options. The top choice selected by Marquette University alumni, students, faculty and staff will be our athletics nickname when we enter the Big East Conference on July 1, 2005. When we originally endorsed the decision at our...

What if we could find something that would make teenagers less likely to become involved in crime, drug and alcohol abuse, and premarital sex? And at the same time, what if this little miracle "something" would turn adolescents into safer drivers, make them more likely to participate in extracurricular activities like sports or student government, and give them a higher sense of self-esteem? Sound too good to be true? It's not. Religion is the key -- more specifically, the religious communities that are able to transmit the beliefs, values and morals that help give young people a sense of the...

The evolution from fire to fossil fuels to nuclear energy is a path of improved human health and welfare arising from efficient and effective access to energy. One trade-off is that energy use by human beings has always produced environmental change. For example, it has resulted in human artifacts marking the landscape, the removal of trees from major areas for wood burning, and region-wide noxious air pollution from coal burning. On the other hand, ready availability of energy that produces wealth through the free market system provides ways to remedy or minimize environmental damage from energy use. With widespread industrialization,...

The release of the first Harry Potter movie is pouring gasoline onto a controversy that already has many parents burning. Parents everywhere are grappling with the presence of Harry Potter in their child’s book bag, toy box and even their classroom. Last spring, the children’s series reached a milestone, hitting the 100 million worldwide sales mark in only three years. The J.K. Rowling series continues to top sales charts internationally. Four of seven titles have been published so far—Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, and Harry ...

Introduction The rapture is the event at which Jesus returns to take the saved to heaven. It is primarily based on: 1 Thess 4:16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: 17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: ...
