Today: November 29, 2001 at 13:20:22 PST Dems Lose Bid for 'Soft Money' Break WASHINGTON (AP) - The Democratic National Committee on Thursday failed to win a break on a "soft money" spending rule it sought to compensate for its cancellation of fund-raisers after the terrorist attacks. The DNC wanted the Federal Election Commission to give it more time to cover operating expenses such as rent using soft-money campaign contributions. The commission rejected the request 3-3. The three Democratic commissioners voted to approve it; the three Republicans voted no. "It means we are going to have to scramble for money ...

We just heard of a plane crash in Dayton. I was outside with neighbors, we heard this very loud boom, from the direction of Wright-Patterson AFB, about 10 mi from my home. I came home, turned on local TV, the local CBS said there is an "unconfirmed" report of a plane crash near the VA Medicl Center. The camera showed a huge cloud of smoke. This is all I know for now.

A rare vanity from me, but we need help. Please, dear Lord, help us to get sanity back to this nation. We've endured 8 yrs of the most corrupt administration in past and possibly future history. We have survivied in spite of Clinton/Gore, but now ask You to intercede, and replace evil with good. And, God bless the Robinson family for making our exchanges possible.

HBO announced that it would present a miniseries devoted to the impeachment of President Clinton, based on Heffrey Toobin's book, A Vast Conspiracy. Now, Columbia TriStar Television has acquired the rights to the book, The Breach, by Peter Baker, a reporter for the Washington Post. The book is published by Scribner. The book, which is being excerpted in The Post, covers the impeachment from inside the congressional process. Based on current support for the NBC Series, The West Wing, Helen Vario, the head of the movies and miniseries for the Columbia television studio, saw the opportunity to do an inside-Washington ...

Tuesday September 12 7:44 PM ET House OKs Guam War Claims Measure WASHINGTON (AP) - More than 50 years after Japanese forces occupied Guam during World War II, the House passed a measure that begins looking at how to compensate Guam residents for war claims. With the passage of the bill, ``the people of Guam move one step closer to being healed from the brutalities of enemy occupation during World War II,'' said Delegate Robert Underwood, D-Guam. During the occupation, Japanese soldiers tortured and terrorized the people of Guam, who concealed the presence of U.S. soldiers. After the war, the ...

2-3 weeks ago, someone posted an AP article about Rep Major Owens (D-NY) proposing (initial stage, I suppose) wanting to cut the cap gains rate, as well as time held (I believe 3 mos as opposed to 1 yr) to get the lowest rate; this was discussed as a way to get more minorities involved in the stock market. Now, even doing search, can't find the article--if anyone knows, please provide URL. Please 'scuse the vanity, I don't like doing them, but I do have an interest in the article.

Sunday May 21 5:01 PM ET Lazio Comes Out Fighting in Media Blitz By Caren Bohan WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. Rep. Rick Lazio, in his first full day as a candidate in New York's high-profile Senate race, aggressively attacked his rival, first lady Hillary Rodham Clinton, and fended off claims that he is a disciple of former House Speaker Newt Gingrich. In a blitz of television network talk-show appearances on Sunday, the 42-year-old four-term Republican congressman from the state's 2nd District on Long Island acknowledged that he would face a tough battle as a latecomer to a contest against a ...

The Million Mom March: What a crock! National policy shouldn't be set by packs of weeping white women led by Rosie O'Donnell. - - - - - - - - - - - - BY CAMILLE PAGLIA The big political news of recent weeks has been the slow slippage in national poll numbers toward the Republican presidential candidate, Gov. George W. Bush. While Democratic spokesmen are putting on a brave face and predicting a reversal after this summer's conventions, the most startling movement has been on the part of married women and young people away from Vice President Al Gore. ...

Today: May 04, 2000 at 20:39:01 PDT Clinton Blasts NY Mayor on Helms ASSOCIATED PRESS PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (AP) -- Hillary Rodham Clinton attacked Senate rival Rudolph Giuliani on Thursday for saying he would vote to keep Jesse Helms as chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee and over his call for congressional hearings on the Elian Gonzalez case. Meanwhile, Giuliani postponed a new round of TV commercials in deference to the death of Cardinal John O'Connor. "Today is a time for all New Yorkers to reflect on John Cardinal O'Connor and what he meant to us all," said Bruce Teitelbaum, ...

Today: May 02, 2000 at 14:25:26 PDT Anti-Parent Discrimination Banned ASSOCIATED PRESS WASHINGTON (AP) -- Parenting teens is just as important as holding down a government job, President Clinton said Tuesday in signing an executive order prohibiting discrimination against parents in the federal workplace. "Believe it or not, there are still some employers who are reluctant to hire or to promote employees who have children at home," Clinton said at a White House conference on raising and mentoring responsible teens. "The goal of this order simply says no glass ceiling for parents," Clinton said. The order ensures that workers are ...

Today: May 01, 2000 at 15:15:34 PDT Congressman's Entry May Help Clinton ASSOCIATED PRESS OSSINING, N.Y. (AP) -- A former Republican congressman joined the race for Senate on Monday, endangering Rudolph Giuliani's grasp on conservative votes that have kept the New York City mayor neck-and-neck with Hillary Rodham Clinton in the polls. "Right now, they're popping the champagne corks at Clinton campaign headquarters," GOP consultant and television commentator Jay Severin said Monday after former Rep. Joseph DioGuardi announced his candidacy. "You could almost run a dead body on the Conservative line and attract enough votes to defeat the Republican candidate. ...

Illness influences N.Y. race April 30, 2000 BY ROBERT NOVAK SUN-TIMES COLUMNIST Democratic insiders, previously optimistic that Hillary Rodham Clinton would end up winning the New York Senate race, now fear that Mayor Rudolph Giuliani's prostate cancer will guarantee him a victory. Assuming Giuliani's cancer has been caught at an early stage, these Democrats say, his illness probably will soften the mayor's rough edges enough to elect him to the Senate. A John Zogby poll released just before the announcement of Giuliani's cancer showed a 13.6 percentage point lead by the mayor over the first lady in upstate New ...

Today: April 27, 2000 at 16:50:18 PDT Teamsters Back Rep. Hoekstra ASSOCIATED PRESS WASHINGTON (AP) -- In a strange political marriage, the International Brotherhood of Teamsters has endorsed Rep. Peter Hoekstra, a Republican who voted against all the union's key bills last year. Teamsters officials said the endorsement was due to Hoekstra's support for ending the federal government's 11-year supervision of the 1.5-million member union. "He's the first candidate that has stood up and said, 'It's time for the government to get out of the Teamsters' business.' He came to speak to us and that left an impression on us," ...
