Does nobody understand the ‘delegate’ issue with regard to the national convention?

I don't, but the campaign is having conference calls to explain it to us over the next few days, and then I'm attending the county mass meeting saturday. I hate having to become politically active this late in life, but Ron asked, so what else can I do?

Should have a good idea about how the county-level process works next week, at least the way it works in Georgia.

A few weeks ago, you would be a big pile of zot regarding that comment. Let’s see if Jim has gone soft lately.

Sometimes the truth just hurts, don't it?

Just donated another $100 to Ron Paul just for you.

How about telling the flip-flopper, the big-gov't-loving religious extremist or the morally/ethically corrupt-to-the-core serial adulterer to drop out instead?

Well in my part of the south (GA) it’s just the opposite. Folks around here know Gingrich all too well, and I know no one who will vote for him. On the other hand, they trust Santorum much more.

I don't know about trusting Santorum, but you're sure right about newt. I just got back from a Jack Kingston (R, GA 1st cong. dist.) rally in Bloomingdale, and 2 prez candidates had representatives there - newt and Ron Paul.

Dr. Paul had 2 reps and his table had a steady stream of visitors. Newt's table had 1 rep who was pretty much ignored by all, except for a couple of local political candidates that briefly visited.

Who here is really excited about our choices today?

    I am.

I feel that Ron Paul is not just far and away the best candidate for president this time around, he's one of the best major presidential candidates in US history.

I'd be pretty excited about Gary Johnson too, if only he didn't think of abortion as just a means of birth control.

The rest? Not so much. Some, I'd consider for a lower office. Others, like noot gingrich, I wouldn't vote for if he ran for county dogcatcher.

Again, very well said. I agree completely.

Last question - what's an intelligent person like you doing here at FR? I see you signed up just a couple of years ago, long after the typical FReeper went off the deep end (see just about every post on this thread not by you for examples).

It was a heck of a lot better place back in the pre-9/11 years, let me tell ya.

    Very well said!

It's sane, rational FReepers like you that keep me coming back to a website dominated more and more every day by big-gov't (R) loving, neocon keyboard warriors.

Very few of us are able to grasp the fact that gov't, at the fed, state & local level, constitutes the bulk of the threat to our lives, liberty and property.

A question to you - do you agree that we, as individual Christians, have a duty to support Israel?

Yes, back in '82, when the Israeli army was about to suffer many casualties by entering Beirut and destroying the PLO, which they had trapped there, it was St. Ron Reagan that negotiated the deal to allow them to flee to Tripoli. The joo-hating Ron Paul was the only republican in DC to stand up on the House floor and criticize that deal.

Thanks to Reagan and the 800 US Marines sent there to escort the PLO to safety, Ron Paul didn't get his wish to see the Israelis suffer all those combat losses. And, as a bonus, the Israelis and the rest of the world got to enjoy yassir arafat's "good works" for another 22 years.

In the same vein, Ron Paul was about the only republican politician to criticize the US (Reagan again) UN vote to condemn Israel's attack on the Iraqi reactor. I guess his reasoning, him being a joo-hater and all, was that if we didn't condemn Israel for attacking perceived threats to their security, they'd use their military more often, thus taking more casualties.

Isn't the Coast Guard interested in these?

Not that I'm aware of. I remember hearing that a couple of foreign navies were interested but backed off due to the price.

Traditional surface combatants are just fine for doing the Navy's constitutional functions of protecting our foreign commerce during peacetime and destroying an opponent's navy during time of war.

These crappy little things are designed for furthering our insane policy of foreign meddling.

...we are responsible for another assassination of a world leader

A rare voice of sanity here at FR... refreshing.

Besides rabid muzzies taking over there, plus the flood of ex-Libyan weapons spreading all over the world, and the atrocities being committed against the losing side, good luck ever getting a 3rd-world country to give up on nuclear weapons.

A national government's first duty is to the safety and security of the nation and its people - Iran, North Korea and any other weak nation will use what we did to Libya as justification to develop or increase their only possible deterrent to the threat from the US/NATO, and I for one don't blame them in the least.

No doubt... I have no problem with Canadian (North American) parts, which I believe count as domestic content these days.

I've never owned a brand new car.

They say it doesn't make sense to buy new because of depreciation but I just like the new car experience and, because I keep the car until it won't go anymore, depreciation isn't really a factor.

    Third car that I bot...was a 1992 Ford 4x4 Explorer. ( Had some cars between those..but company cars, or cars I didn't buy..)Great car...Died with 254k miles on it.

My '88 Escort "died" on me at about the same mileage - was about 250 miles into a 280 mile business trip when the catalytic converter stopped up. I limped the last 30 miles and, when it was time to go home, I unbolted the exhaust at the manifold and made it back with no problems. That's something I like about Fords - they can have a thousand things wrong with them but still get you around.

    Another Honda, a '98 Civic..with 222k on it.

The only person I know to have bought a new car and had it turn out to be a lemon was my neighbor - his '96 civic was a complete POS. He bought it about 6 months after I bought my '96 Escort, and by the time I had my first problem with it (rear window defroster switch), he'd already replaced, among many other things, the engine... at only 85k.

Trade you my VW...for your Charger!! Hehehe

Give me some time to think about it FRiend. I'll get back with ya.

I gave Detroit another try with the Caravan, and I'm not reassured.

What turned you against this fine gov't motors product, the mitsubishi engine or the mitsibishi tranny?

Now that 71 Challenger really piqued my interest

Charger man, Charger. Bought it fully restored from a museum in Illinois. Plum Crazy (purple) paint, black striping, 440 Magnum, freaking awesome vehicle.

Hate to say it, but sometimes I let it out at nite to go hunt down and kill foreign cars (for food, of course).

What I meant Joe is that if you buy cheap, you’ll likely end up with more repairs and breakdowns and resale will be far less

I've owned 3 new cars in my life - all Fords. I still have 2 of them. The one I no longer have was an $8,400 '88 Escort bought in '87. Combined, I have put 530,000 miles on them and have been stranded a grand total of 1 time (broken timing belt).

The '88 was in the shop 3 times - 2 just after I bought it, for a minor warranty repair, and once at about 230k miles for a front wheel bearing.

My $9,400 '96 Escort has been in the shop once - after 11.5 years and just over 200k miles for a major engine repair. Been perfect in the over 4 years since.

My '07 Fusion has been perfect so far.

I don't expect perfection from mass-produced consumer products, but I've gotten pretty close to that from the great old American Ford Motor Company, and I'm a customer for life because of that.

I don't feel that I've suffered in the least from my choice to purchase vehicles made by Americans that are employed by an American company.

As a libertarian, I believe in the theory of free trade. As Americans, we've collectively (and unilaterally) practiced that theory just about to the point of economic collapse.

As long has you realize many "foreign" cars are built here in America

Well aware of that. In response to Ron Reagan's threat to put tariffs on japanese cars, they began to open assembly plants here. Quickly they learned to love assembly in the US because they could get municipal/state gov'ts to compete against each other for those facilities, to the point that US taxpayers would be forced to pay for those assembly plants.

Also, they quickly learned that employing low wage Americans instead of high wage japanese was good for the bottom line, and came with little or no drop off in quality.

They love the fact that they can keep the high tech portion of the auto manufacturing in japan, they can buy up any American-sourced suppliers so that all profit returns to japan, all the while keeping almost all our products out of their domestic marketplace.

And let's be real....many parts of "American" cars are made in other countries

Far too many (for my taste)

I would challenge you to find an "American" made car..that all it's parts are "Made in America".

I challenge you to find a non American-made part on my 1971 Dodge Charger 500 (not saying their aren't any).
