Virginia Tech Student Also Lived Through Columbine By Doug Ware - KUTV.com (KUTV) BLACKSBURG, Va. - You can call Monday’s rampage at Virginia Tech a massacre, but in the case of one young woman you can call it déjà vu. Regina Rohde was on campus on the morning of April 16, 2007 as Cho Seung-Hui opened fire on the Blacksburg, Va. Campus, killing 32 people before committing suicide. She survived. Unfortunately, it wasn't the first time she experienced an event of mass murder at an educational institute. Rohde was also on campus at Columbine High School on the morning of...

President Clinton, in a raw exercise of unchecked power, has been issuing an unprecedented barrage of regulations and executive orders. Clinton's 29,000 Commandments By Robert Tracinski (January 15, 2001) With just a week left before the new president takes office, our government is engaged in a frenzy of lawmaking. No, Congress has not convened to consider legislation, and no, your elected representatives will not decide whether these new federal rules go into effect. You will not hear about the majority of the new laws, and you certainly won't have an opportunity to debate them. How could this happen in America? ...

What We Should Remember on Martin Luther King Day Judge People by Their Character, Not Skin Color By Edwin A. Locke What should we remember on Martin Luther King Day? In his “I Have a Dream” speech Dr. King said: “I have a dream that my four children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.” This statement, made before King became an advocate of “black power,” means that in judging other men, skin color should be ignored — that it should ...

CUBA: Growing government intolerance and persecution towards Catholics Havana (Fides) - Government intolerance and repression towards Catholics grows. The latest move is a law which suspends diplomas or degrees of professionals who enter a seminary or Religious Order. In recent years a number of medical doctors have entered a seminary or joined a Jesuit or Franciscan community. Under this new law, as priests or Religious these physicians will be barred from practicing their profession. The success the Church is having with young Cubans generates episodes of intolerance. On November 21 in a high school in the Havana suburb of Aguada ...
  • Opinions wanted: What is TRUE conservatism?

What is TRUE conservatism? The religious here don't agree with the Libertarians who don't agree with the Republicans who are seen as left lite by the Objectivists (who are atheists, so the religious don't care for them either!) My ideas of conservatism have always been centered on complete self-government. But see many differences of opinion on the board coming from completely opposite premises. I am just angling for opinions, out of curiousity, from anyone: What is TRUE conservatism?

Vote fraud alert! U.S. democracy is in danger! But Americans need not worry: A group of vigilant Russian lawmakers is determined to ride to the rescue. Saying they are alarmed by "deep concern with the possible falsification" of upcoming U.S. presidential elections, nine State Duma deputies have cobbled together a two-page resolution to that they say will help keep the vote fair. The resolution, which is expected to be voted on by parliament Friday, calls for the government to send a group of observers to monitor the Nov. 7 vote and to set up a foundation to protect U.S. democracy. ...

Johnny Can’t Think but He’s a Great Guesser September 5, 2000 MARINA DEL REY, CALIF. — As U.S. schoolchildren head back to their classrooms, they will face a threat greater than drugs or thugs — their school curriculum, said a senior writer for the Ayn Rand Institute. “For years, students have had their reading abilities destroyed with the ‘look-say’ method, which emphasizes guesswork over reading,” said Andrew Bernstein. “Now, educators are destroying math instruction in the same way — throwing out textbooks, multiplication tables, even right answers, leaving students to form groups to construct their own math ‘strategies.’ Under the ...
