I've seen this movie twice, and this is award-material if I ever saw it. The Cohen bros. film O Brother Where Art Thou, loosely based (nominally) on Homer's Odyssey, has George Clooney chasing and being chased around Depression-era Mississippi countryside with various hilarious and colorful characters.
