Oh, if this would turn out to be true.

The Pubs in TX have been trying to get rid of Chet for a LONG time. When they redrew the district, they took out Fort Hood and added Bryan/College Station/A&M on the south end and suburban Fort Worth on the north end, giving him a strongly Republican district. Chet has survived in spite of that. They love him in Waco, and he’s an Aggie, IIRC, so he plays “conservative” in College Station.

Hopefully, this is the year. The jig is up.

Ok, we’ve got an organization of one guy (Weinstein), most likely Jewish, using Muslims to bring down a Christian for so-called “hate speech” and deny him the opportunity to speak at the Pentagon.

If he were a conservative or a Christian, AP wouldn’t give him the time of day. But, since he fits the liberal agenda, he’s gotten free nationwide press today.

I don’t know what makes me more angry: the fact that he’s trying to tear Franklin Graham down, or the platform AP is giving this guy.

The jungle special election is unique, and helped KBH get elected to her Senate seat in 1993, after Clinton appointed Senator Bentsen to his Cabinet.

Ann Richards appointed Bob Krueger to be the interim senator, and a ton of people ran against him in the special election. Reps. Joe Barton and Jack Fields split the conservative vote. KBH and Bob Krueger got into the runoff, where Kay creamed him. It could be argued that KBH could not have gotten out of a standard Republican primary and runoff.

Once she became an incumbent Senator, no Republican of any stature opposed her.

I’d love for Sarah to run unopposed for re-election in Alaska in 2010.

However, I’m afraid both the Democrats and the country-club Republicans are going to throw the kitchen sink at her in that race.

I saw the exact same headline. I, too, wanted to barf. If that’s not a campaign press release, I don’t know what is.

This is a classic example of how AP is dangerous. Even with the lost influence and readership of the print media, AP still distributes news to widely used platforms such as Yahoo, Google, and AOL. You can say what you want to about the leadership of those companies, but they have a lot of reach and influence over average Americans.

If every newspaper in America folded, AP would still exist to provide news feeds to outfits like Yahoo.

  • HUCK ON 'THEOLOGY' DEGREE

I am a graduate of SWBTS. I also have a BA in religion from a Baptist university in a state bordering Arkansas. In my case, it only means I've forgotten a lot of stuff. :-) I don't support Mike Huckabee for president. I agree with him on cultural issues and respect him as a man. I'd be glad to have him as my pastor. I disagree with him on policy, and am supporting Fred Thompson. Having walked down part of the same road as Mike, I can vouch for where he has been.

The MDiv is a 92 hour degree. Most classes are two hours each, instead of three hours as most bachelor's level classes are. An MDiv is similar to the old Bachelor of Divinity. A person can earn one in three years (going year-round), but most get theirs in four years. The majority of Southern Baptist churches expect their pastors to have an MDiv. Huckabee was a rarity, as he was able to pastor large churches without one. That is a testimony to his gifts and abilities.

Most likely, Huckabee's 46 hours were earned toward an MDiv.

Southwestern offers a master's in theology, designed as preparation for doctoral work. An MDiv is required. It is an additional 32 hours and requires a master's thesis.

In my experience, my B.A. from a similar Baptist university to Ouachita was really a well-rounded liberal arts degree. I took plenty of core religion courses, but also was required to take courses in English literature, biology, astronomy, math, social studies, fine arts/humanities, and a combined grueling English/history class called Western Civilization, among other classes. It was not merely a Bible college, but a challenging university. I was exposed to a lot more than simply Bible, doctrine, and theology. For Huckabee to graduate from Ouachita in 2 1/2 years is quite an accomplishment. BTW, Ouachita has named their school of education after him. A lot of pastors get a BA in religion as a pre-seminary degree. Some of the courses are repeated in seminary, but not all of them.

Today was the first day I saw biographies of him listing an earned master's from Southwestern. Everything I have seen prior to this simply show him attending SWBTS upon graduation from Ouachita. I hope this is simply a case of the press applying a degree to him that he does not have.

Huckabee did leave Southwestern without a degree:

    Huckabee left SWBTS

He preached his first sermon as a teenager, married his high-school sweetheart and went off to Ouachita Baptist University in Arkadelphia. There he majored in speech and communications, worked at a radio station and earned his B.A. in a little more than two years. He spent a year at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Tex., before dropping out to work for the televangelist James Robison, who bought him his first decent wardrobe and showed him how to use television.

As has been stated, there is a big difference between a BA in religion and an MDiv. He got a normal college degree with a major in religion classes at Ouachita. He studied English, math, science, and other things in addition to his religion classes.

I, too have been seeing biographies attributing an M.A. at Southwestern to him. Someone is trying to give something to him that he doesn't have.

Huckabee attended Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, TX. He did not graduate. It is decidedly more conservative now than it was in Huck's day, and was not liberal then. It has never been a King James only school. A master of divinity degree at Southwestern is a 92 hour degree. It takes three years of classwork, year-round, to graduate. Most take four years or even longer. He is claiming that his BA in religion from Ouachita is a theology degree.

    I’m supporting Fred.

However, Huckabee did not run for lieutenant governor on a Democrat ticket. Arkansas elects their governor and lieutenant governor separately. Huckabee was elected lieutenant governor as a Republican, while Jim Guy Tucker was elected as a Democrat. When Tucker went to jail, Huckabee became governor.

Each state does have a different law regarding the replacement of a Senator.

    Two recent examples:

    1) Massachusetts removed the power of appointment from the governor in 2004, when John Kerry was running for President. The Dem super-majority in both houses of the legislature overrode a veto by Governor Romney.

    2) Just after this year's election, Republican Senator Craig Thomas of Wyoming announced he was diagnosed with an aggressive form of leukemia. Wyoming has a Dem governor, but he is required by law to choose from a list of three nominees from the senator's party, if the situation comes to pass. So, control of the Senate has not been an issue in this situation, and relatively little coverage has been given to Sen. Thomas's condition.

This is the district most affected earlier this year when the courts ruled certain congressional districts did not meet the standards of the Voting Rights Act. Translated, that means there weren't enough Hispanic Democrats in the district, as the district was already electing a Hispanic.

So, Pub precincts in north San Antonio were removed, and Dem precincts in south San Antonio were added to the district. Rodriguez was the congressman from a neighboring district, who was unseated two years ago in the Dem primary by Henry Cuellar.

In past elections, the late boxes would come in for Bonilla. Tonight, it looks like the lines are going to defeat him.

    That's a bad thing.

Rush is doing yeoman's work here.

When Jim Talent is re-elected, and Michael Steele is elected, they owe Rush a great debt of gratitude. Rush is answering the ads, taking the criticism, and causing thought and discussion on the issue.

In the meantime, Rush's ratings go up, and he laughs all the way to the bank.

Better to have Rush as a target than a Pubbie candidate.

As he has said for years, there is no need for equal time, because Rush is equal time.

Ernest is fighting an uphill battle. As was mentioned earlier, people in Oklahoma have not been given a reason to get rid of Brad Henry. He is, from what I've heard, an empty suit, but the voters don't know that.

I'd never vote for him, but he is a little to the right of a Republican from New England. He did sign a parental notification bill, which would torpedo his ambitions with the Dem party outside Oklahoma. I'd be shocked if the Dem presidential candidate picked him as a running mate, unless they really want those 7 electoral votes from Oklahoma.

The Dem party still leads in voter registration in Oklahoma, though Bush carried all 77 counties in 2006. The urban areas lean Republican. The rural areas are full of culturally conservative Democrats that will vote Democrat if they are given one they can vote for. John Kerry, for example, is not one they can vote for. Brad Henry is.

As for the Lt Governor's race: Todd Hiett is the first Republican Speaker of the state House in decades. He is term-limited. Jari Askins is the House Democratic leader, also known as the House Minority Leader.

At the state level, election is not a slam dunk for a Republican in Oklahoma as it is in a presidential election. The Republican still has to give people a reason to vote for him. That is why Steve Largent is not governor now, and Brad Henry is.

  • Some Californians set to begin 11-digit dialing

    Not A Democrat to Melas

11? Most of Texas is 10 digit dialing. Where is the extra digit?

I formerly worked in the yellow pages industry. If I understand it correctly, in California, they dial 1 before the number, even if it is a local call. They have not had 10 digit dialing up until now.

Someone mentioned 713 & 281 in Houston as being a geographical split. When Houston and Dallas got new area codes in the mid 90's, there was originally a geographic split. Houston inside of Beltway 8 kept 713, while outlying areas got the new 281. Same in Dallas, where everything inside of LBJ Freeway kept 214, and the outlying areas got 972. After a few years, in an attempt to preserve phone numbers, those imaginary boundaries were removed, and 713/281 and 214/972 were overlaid on top of each other. In addition, 832 was overlaid on top of 713/281, and 469 was overlaid on top of 214/972.

In Houston, it is possible to have a 713 number for your landline, a 281 number for your fax line, and an 832 number for your cell phone. Same in Dallas with 214/972/469.
