  • Is O'Reilly posturing for Rather's Job?

Is it possibly possible? I'm sure most of you have noticed Bill's move towards the unprincipled middle of the road over the last few months. First he takes an anti, or at least, noncomittal view towards the Swifties. Now he is unwilling to admit he memos are forgeries. I'm sure there are many other instances. It seems to me he is posturing as a middle of the road newscaster, (which will never work). Am I being stupid here or is there a remote possibility?
  • Why does USA Today have 6!! Killian memos?

I found this on an earlier thread. http://usatoday.com/news/nation/2004-09-09bushdocs.pdf USA Today has a total of 6 memos. I'm assuming USAT got these either from the White House or from CBS. No matter what they originated from CBS. Why did CBS not release all 6 documents? Did CBS decide that two of the memos didn't pass the smell test but the rest were valid? How could 2 questionable document not throw the rest into doubt? Or is it possible that USA Today got these memos from the same source as CBS (DNC or Kerry campaign?)? Maybe we should investigate further.
  • Do we have a need for tightly moderated "sticky" threads?

I think I have noticed a severe limitation of FreeRepublic, in this new Post Rathergate era. There have been several threads posted today asking for an information and evidence round-up of the Rathergate stuff, so that the info can be presented to the media. One from jmstein7, and a thread from Doug From Upland. The problem is that it is too easy to post non-informational posts. The hard evidence quickly gets diluted by comments and pings. Furthermore, only a small percentage of FReepers will see the thread because it rolls off the front page too fast. We have moved to...
  • Call your CBS affiliate, and inform them of your boycott.

I just called my CBS affiliate, and told them that I could no longer trust them as a news source. I told them that I could not watch their television channel until CBS Evening News issues a retraction and an apology. The tone of person who answered the phone made me believe I was not the first caller. He asked me what about the broadcast made me decide this. I told him that Dan Rather continued to focus on the contents of the memos even after ABC and other news agencies have raised serious questions about their authenticity. He did...

As we close out a great day in the history of this Forum, I want to thank Jim Robinson, who has made it all possible. And I want to thank all the FReepers who are willing to donate their time and their Brains to our cause. Today we saw the power of the free exchange of ideas and information. Today we saw the media as the dinosaurs that they have become. Maybe we sent some of them on the way to extinction. We move faster than anyone in the Media. We have the power to expose the truth, and make...

I sent one of the threads from last night to a half-dozen or so document examiners I found listed on the web. One of them contacted me just now and said he would look into it. Feel free to post comments or questions I should pass on to him here.

I have to just take a minute to do some bragging here. I apologize in advance. Last night I was reading FR as this story broke. I submitted a tip on the drudgereport page, and sent this email to drudge at 2:42am : "http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1210702/posts The documents CBS supplied recently are written in a PROPORTIONALLY SPACED font. If you can figure out how Lt. Col. Jerry Killian managed to produce a document like that, on a typewriter in 1972, I would like to hear it. The only typewriter capable of proportional fonts at the time, was an IBM Executive. Secretaries had...
  • Is there such thing as a republican (small r) dictator?

I was just thinking about dictatorships. I cant for the life of me think of a dictator who rose to power through a republican ideology. The nazi party was a socialist party. Saddam was a socialist. Chavez is (was) a liberal populist. Most of the latin american dictators were socialists. Am I wrong here? Is there any exception to this rule? I cant think of any.

Here's a good anti-Michael Moore(pie please) flash cartoon. Beware, the cartoon is R-rated because of profanity, but it's pretty funny. I posted a thread in news/activism earlier but I think it got shut down, so now I'm posting in chat. It's the top cartoon on the page, the Z-Toon Feature.

    Rush Limbaugh | 8/31 | The President
I have never heard the President speak in a radio interview before. But he sounds much more confident, and doesn't mispeak. He needs to do more radio interviews. I think he may just be a little camera-shy. That's fine, I don't look for someone who's an actor in my President.

Did anyone else see this? This was the first time I have heard him claim this. Is he just saying this because he knows Kerry will never file a SF180 to release his records? I suspect John Kerry actually put himself in for the Silver Star, but we have no way of knowing, do we?
  • Did anyone see Kerry/Edwards walk all over each other on FNS?

Was anyone else watching Fox News Sunday yesterday, when the dynamic duo was being interviewed? What became very apparent to me is that Edwards does not like playing second fiddle. There was one question (I forget what the question was) that Chris Wallace asked Edwards, Edwards started to answer and then Kerry jumped in and answered it. You could see a grimace of anger cross Edwards face as Kerry talked over him. Very telling. I think Edwards actually has quite a temper boiling just under the surface. He could lose it.
  • Swift Boat Veterans Politcal Ad Proposal.

Here's my proposal for a hard hitting political ad that would destroy Kerry's support among veterans. You know the famous picture of Kerry standing with 19 of his fellow soldiers? Well a recent article stated that all but one of them claimed Kerry is unfit to be commander in chief. Heres a summary of the ad. Display the picture for 5 seconds, with the text "John Kerry's unit in Vietnam" Cut to a recognizable reconstruction of the background from the picture. Have all the Veterans still around file in from the sides and take their place in the picture. So...
  • Is it possible to find out if John Kerry requested replacement medals?

    07/13/2004 9:38:42 PM PDT · by Oblongata · 3 replies · 82+ views
    7/13/04 | Me
I found on the Department of the Navy's website that to request replacement medals you have to submit a Standard Form 180 (SF 180). If John Kerry requested replacement medals he would have had to submit a SF 180. Considering John Lehman's signature is on his awards records, and Lehman wasn't SecNav until the 1980's I think it's likely Kerry requested replacements for the medals he threw away. My point is, does anyone know if SF 180's that were submitted are themselves available under the Freedom of Information Act?
  • George Clooney 'bravo' for Italians (Is this the house he bought from the Kerry's?)

LAGLIO, Italy (AP) -- George Clooney shoots baskets with the local kids, carries grandmothers' groceries uphill and works hard on pronouncing "buon giorno." He has international stardom and rascally good looks, but in this hamlet where Clooney owns an 18th century mansion with a private dock on Lake Como, the star is simply "bravo" -- Italian for "a good person." Sure, the fans pitching tents outside Villa Oleandra are a nuisance, but locals say they don't mind the extra business their celebrity neighbor has generated since he bought the mansion two years ago.

I just watched the recent press conference on TV. Madison police dept has video of Audrey buying a knife, duct tape and rope, and cold medicine, BEFORE she was abducted. These were all items she said the kidnapper used. They also said someone used her computer multiple times while she was missing. Ahem.
  • Bush, Kerry tossup here (local Wisconsin poll shows bush with 6 point lead)

Republican President George W. Bush is narrowly leading his Democratic opponent, U.S. Sen. John Kerry, among Wisconsin voters, according to the latest Badger Poll. And, in a potential replay of the 2000 election, third-party candidate Ralph Nader's supporters could hold the margin of victory for the Democrats. The survey of 500 self-described "likely" voters shows Bush leading Kerry 47 percent to 41 percent, with Nader receiving 5 percent. The poll had a margin of error of about four percentage points.

I was wondering if anyone knows? I know this can be a kind of touchy subject, but was Charles Krauthammer in an accident at one time? Or does he have some sort of disability? I always look forward to his columns, and seeing him on special report. He is one of the most knowledgeable and eloquent conservatives out there. I love how everyone shuts up and lets him talk, knowing they'll learn something if they listen. But, I noticed a lot of asymetry when he he sitting at the desk, as if sitting is very difficult for him. To get...

According to this page at the Department of the Navy: http://www.chinfo.navy.mil/navpalib/questions/awards.html Veterans are entitled to one set of replacement medals. Request must be made with Standard Form (SF 810). It might be possible, through open records laws, to find out if a certain John F. Kerry ever put in a request for new medals. (to replace the ones he threw away)? Any Vets out there know anything about this?
