Thanks for the response and advise. I was just politely suggesting that your treatment of others could be more Christian. The Bible suggests it is best to love our enemies, and not judge them.

Reading some of the posts here, I would worry about any Mormons that live nearby some of the posters. Would they harm or harass Mormons? If they claim to be practicing Christians, how do they reconcile that?

I hope you don’t find this a flame, merely an observation. I’m sure you are a God fearing good person.

I am a Christian on FR and found this article insightful & uplifting. It has several wise points to consider for anyone who wants to read them.

Anyone who fought for freedom as this author has, will have viewpoints worth considering. Agree or not, he/she will have my respect. Thanks.

Abram, there are links to the speech transcript on this thread, plus video of the speech at the linked web site. I used the link and read the speech, and didn’t find any hate. Just good coaching for a happy life. Peace.

Thanks for the link — interesting discourse.

The story about voting to determine the gender of a kitten was great! That might be the thing that set off the gays, because I didn’t notice the words gay or homosexual in the speech. But then, what does’t set gay rights groups off? As a group, they seem pretty thinned skinned, although the gays I know seem pretty laid back.

I’m impressed with the deep love and concern expressed by this little girl’s parents. They were dealt a tough card in life, and are doing their level best to give their child the best they can.

Having some experience with life/death decisions, it probably wasn’t easy to come to this. I’m sure they weighed each item many of us are bringing up.

Hard decisions are that way because there are good/bad aspects to each.

I suspect it would have been easier to just keep her home or in some care center. But these fine parents wanted the best for their child, and in their estimation, it wouldn’t be found there.

  • Evangelicals may never take Romney on faith

The speech was made to curb some of the intolerance towards Mormons being directed toward Mr. Romney. I read the speech a couple of times now, and feel it could become one of the greatest in the last couple of decades. These things take peculation time.

I am undecided on Mr. Romney for president, as I can’t understand his changing views on some of my core values – right to life & family values (no gay marriage).

But the presidency is about leadership, not good speeches. Is the person honest? Can the person lead? Will the person value and protect the Constitution? Will the person protect the nation, even when unpopular decisions need to be made?

These questions apply to all candidates. None will be perfect, but I’ll vote for the best one in my judgment. If this speech is an honest reflection of Mr. Romney’s view on the Constitution, Wow! It really was that good.

Leadership: I first heard of Mr. Romney fixing Salt Lake Olympics. The preparations were a train wreak, bankrupt. The Olympic committee reached out to the best leader they could find. He somehow fixed it. I didn’t follow his term as governor in Massland, but that couldn’t have been easy. Everything he set out to do, he has done well per my knowledge.

But will his Mormon upbringing affect his presidency? How could it not. Here is how it might:

Protect the nation: The members of the Latter-day Saint church are perhaps the most patriotic people anywhere. They believe the United States is a predestined, blessed nation of freedom, which is a beacon to the entire world.

Compassion: Mormons are legendary compassionate and tirelessly go about lifting up the poor and unfortunate. Many examples: organized relief is visible in about any disaster anywhere. They have an education fund that help train poor people. All efforts are done with volunteers.

Honesty: A basic tenet of the faith
Faithfulness: A basic tenet of the faith (esp marriage and patriotism).
Frugalness: A basic tenet. Mormons preach against debt.
Family: A basic tenet. No relations outside of marriage. Family history research is big.
Forgiveness and Tolerance: A basic tenet.

These are the areas most likely be affected by a Mormon president’s beliefs.

Does being Mormon ensure all these traits? Of course not. Mr. Reid claims to be a Mormon, but I don’t see these traits manifest. I guess that is why he is given a pass.

I plan to continue to look at candidates from both parties, and will vote for the best person in my judgment.

I believe Ronald Reagan was the right man at the right time that helped preserve our nation another decade. I believe George W Bush was the right person at the right time that helped this nation get through the WOT. I saw the Clinton years as lost opportunity.

Who will be the right person at the right time for the next decade?

If you have a favorite candidate, speak to his experience, accomplishments, and his core values. I will listen to those who provide these details, as I am learning from some of you. However, his religion only matters as it pertains to the relevant issues.

As far as tolerance, Mr. Romney seems far ahead of his time. Certainly far ahead of some of us.

  • Pearl Harbor -- do kids know what it means?

    Good question.

We also need to ask, Do adults including our politicians know what Pearl Harbor means?

We see many of our national leaders not take national security seriously or politicize it.

The meaning of Peral Harbor is more then being prepared against attack.

Simple fact: To save lives on all sides, we must hit back hard after being attacked.

This deters further attacks from all foes, thus saving lives on both sides.

The fact that we haven’t been attacked since 9/11 isn’t solely due to our increased security efforts. You can make a strong argument that a factor in the 9/11 attack was our foes didn’t think we would hit them back as hard as we did.

I’d like to see someone estimate the number of lives saved in Iraq, Afghanistan, and the US because we rolled back the terrorists. It would no doubt exceed the number of lives lost.

I truly belive that President Bush and our Military saved many thousands of lives, as well as freed at least two nations from tyranny.

God Bless America and our Veterans.
