    Restornu,

I am colorcountry’s husband. I am LDS. If you have her posts removed I will repost it again. I have every right to do so I am a New Mexico Hispanic AND I am LDS.

I wish you would quit being so petty and vindictive. It isn’t very Christian of you.

Religion moderator. Would you allow a post about Native American Indian DNA to be discussed under cloak of a religion “caucus” and disallow Native Americans the right to discuss the issue? This is insulting!

Nice try at changing the subject. You were wrong. It appears you can’t even admit it.

    Good day.

    Hoisted by your own petard.

It looked to me like you called at least two different posters, and possibly three by the term ‘bigot,’ in fact you went even farther than that.

From my reading of the threads, you were the one being vindictive and bigoted.

We are unworthy of your secret doctrines? Is that because freepers are dogs, or is it because we are swine?

It appears that Joseph Smth copied Matthew 7:6 almost word for word into 3 Nephi 14:6?

Why do you think that is?

Do you think Jesus was talking about secret rites that he was participating in at the time?

The meaning is pretty simple to figure out; “Do not persist in offering what is sacred or of value to those who have no appreciation for it, because your gift will not only become contaminated and be despised, your generous efforts could also be rebuffed and perhaps even openly attacked.”

With that note, I will no longer be conversing with you restornu, you refuse the word of God. I shake the dust from my feet.

    Good bye!

In all the times I have read the Bible I do not remember Jesus doing anything in secret.

Perhaps that is because it was a secret. /sarcasm

I try to stay away fron the religion threads specifically because I have such a strong negative reaction to Mormonism and I don’t wish to get into heated arguments. I have to watch my blood pressure.

That is why I am opposed to such indoctrination being allowed by one specific religious group on the News/Activism forum.

I’ve been quite adept at avoiding this issue, until now. Perhaps it is time for a FreeRepublic poll. Let’s see how many freepers will actually decline to vote for someone because of either their religious beliefs or Mormonism.

I think if you give freepers the option of saying they won’t vote for Romney, but are withholding their vote for political reasons, I think that almost all freepers would choose that option. It is more politically correct. Don’t give them that option. Let us see what freepers really think about a Mormon running for President.

A cult is a group which violates the rights of its members and damages them through abusive techniques of unethical mind control. Unethical mind control happens when leaders, recruitment methods, doctrines, organizational structure, cult literature uses deception, lack of full disclosure of beliefs up front, guilt, fear and shame to gain converts and keep them in the group. The group discourages or limits free thinking based on independent investigation from all sources of information about the group, including former members and dissenting opinions about the group. Not all groups are considered cults, not even if they are based on strange beliefs. A destructive cult distingues itself from a normal social or religious group by subjecting members to deception or other psychological damage in order to keep them in the group.

    What is a religious cult?
Relgious cults are primarily focused on strict adherence to religious dogma, given by a top-down leader/prophet/more enlightened person which one cannot question. Some use some holy scripture authority and some are purely inventions of their leaders and can be a combination of the two, scripture/invention via god’s authority in that leader. They use deception to appeal to potential converts and offer them a utopian way to live and define such a life in terms of rules to live by and rewards coming from total adherenece only. Once that process begins, the group can begin to define the world inside the group as exclusively worthy and outside the group not worth living, bad, misled or a dead end to destruction. Fear, paranoia, guilt and induced phobias about life outside of the group are used to keep the member in, so they’ll fear leaving such teachings. They then keep themselves in the group, in order to avoid what they’ve accepted MIGHT happen to them if they leave.

What are some of the methods Cults use?
The methods in which such cults indoctrinate members are diverse, but most cults use public “truth telling” or “testimony of the truth of the group” , swearing oaths to be faithful to the group, responsibility for recruiting other members, responsibility for teaching other members of group doctrines, a very heavy work load and most free time taken up in support of the group, doctrine over person, doctrine without questions and mandatory money giving to the group.

the four major components of mind control are:

behavior control - restrictions, rules of behavior, assignments, tasks, indoctrination in meetings, teaching or being taught. The whole realm of forcing particular behaviors in order to conform to the group.

thought control - black and white thinking, developing testimony for the truth of such absolute doctrines or group, thought stopping rituals, such as reverting to “statement of belief” or “testimony” of the truth of the group when confronted with any conflicting information or challenging information. Cults discourage questioning doctrine, making independent conclusions and free thinking. A person cannot come to their own conclusion if it is not in line with the group party line, or the person is deemed misled, unworthy or defective in their thinking. the fault is always found with the member and not the leader or doctrines.

emtional control - guilt, inducing feelings that you’ll never measure up, you’re not “worthy”. fear, by defining the “enemy” as one who is and will persecute you and normally defined in terms of forces like evil or satan. phobias can be induced with fear of the “enemy”. also, fear of discovery of a member’s questioning authority or doctrines and what consequences could be in store, like ex-communication or punishment, shame.

Information control - denying members from reading from independent sources of information to make sound and independent judgements on the group and group doctrines. Groups practice censorship in the form of producing “cult generated” faith affirming literature and restrict members from reading anything not published by the cult about the cult. All other sources of materials are labelled as “anti” and are “evil” and “of the enemy”.

How do you think the LDS faith fits into these definitions?

Thank you for your response and it is duly noted.

I have refrained in the past from stating my views that Mormonism is clearly a cult. I won’t hesitate in the future as long as we are trying to show how his religion might impact Romney, and in the interest of opposing viewpoints.

    Thank you.

    ?

I respectfully question your tactics. Is this similar to a court who issues this statement? “We convicted an innocent man last time, so THIS time we will let a murderer go? Is that your reasoning?”

It seems that these Mormons have worked you into a place where you are now required by appearance of “fairness” to allow them to proselyte on your activism forum? Then why, must I ask, do you even have a Religion forum?

The point you are trying to avoid is this; it isn’t NEWS and it is not ACTIVISM, it is RELIGION. The thread isn’t even tied in any way to politics, it does not reference Romney, policy, law, nada.

I lurked for a long time, wondering if Free Republic adequately reflected my ideas of conservatism. If this is what is seen as “news” by the administration, I am back in lurk mode.....or NO mode.

I am amazed and appalled that Free Republic can be used in this manner as a proselyting opportunity for one religious sect.

Why is this allowed on the “News Activism” threads and not in the Religion Forum where it seems to belong?

If this is the way FreeRepublic wants to represent themselves then I suppose it is up to Jim Robinson. To me, the use of the News forum as a way to “missionary,” is totally inappropriate.
