WOw, Santorum just said on Gretas program that his voters would NOT vote for Newt...but that Newt voters would vote for him (Santorum)...OK....to me that translates to...Santorums voters would then vote for wom, if not Rick, MITTENS????????? GOD HELP US!!!!!!

I think Rick is probably more right that not. The majority of his supporters don’t trust Newt Gingrich. They know what Newt was — or what he became — before he was forced to resign in disgrace. Why? He was having an affair while married to his second wife with the woman who would become his 3rd wife — and he could NOT effectively lead the charge to impeach Bill Clinton as Speaker of the House.

Many here on FR have very short memories. Those of us who remember the Clinton years, and the fact that Bill Clinton got away with “High Crimes and Misdemeanors,” don’t remember the fiasco that was Newt Gingrich’s absentee “leadership” during that time. I remember friends taking with me, and we were asking, “where the heck is Newt in this? Why is he so silent?” Well, he was in the back room with Callista — and the Clinton’s KNEW it. You can count on it.

Now, many of the Conservatives who support Santorum KNOW who Gingrich is, and they don’t TRUST him. So, Rick is right. If he leaves the race, I would say the majority of his supporters would go to Mitt. Both Mitt and Newt are Progressives (if you listen to Newt’s words and look at his voting record, it’s clear). Yes, Mitt was MORE liberal on some issues — but he also has more executive experience, and he HASN’T cheated on two wives in the past.

At least, that will be the reasoning of most of Rick Santorum’s voters. If only TRUE Conservatives would have gotten behind Santorum AFTER IOWA — this wouldn’t be an issue. But, they drank the Newt kool-aid. ;-) So now they are going to get Mitt as the nominee anyway — and Obama again in November.

    And this surprises — who?!

Not one Democrat will ever see a courtroom, much less a jail cell, for this crime. And anyone who believes there’s a chance in Hades of AG Holder of “Dear Leader” Obama EVER being held accountable is just plain delusional.

JimRob — I said I didn’t trash Newt. If you think I did, you’re incorrect. Sorry if you disagree. I don’t like Romney anymore than you do. There is a Conservative alternative better than Newt — Santorum. NONE are perfect, but at least Santorum hasn’t got the personal baggage Newt does.

Is that so wrong to point out? How can you consider that “trashing” Newt?

If you intend to trash Newt on this site, say your prayers and your good byes, because you will b-gone!!

    JimRob:

With due respect, I did not trash Newt Gingrich. I merely pointed out his past inconsistencies in word and deed, that Newt himself was not truly a philosophical Conservative, and I pointed out that I thought he was not worthy of the trust of Conservatives now. That is my considered opinion from almost 30 years experience as an activist in the movement. Your characterization of my post as “trashing” Gingrich is incorrect, sir.

I have been a FReeper for over 10 years. I’ve had many debates and discussions — and not a few arguments here. FreeRepublic has long been a place where Conservatives have been able to exchange ideas and air differences. So, has that changed? Is only one view permitted now? Is only one candidate allowed to be supported?

Of course, Jim Rob, I know this is YOUR site. You may do with it as you wish. You don’t have to let ANYONE post here. But I learned a long time ago that it’s the LIBERALS who try to shut down those that have different views — not Conservatives.

So, if you want to “ZOT” me, well sir, you go right ahead. I’ve been a loyal FReeper for more than a decade — you’ll be cutting off your nose to spite your face. And you can’t do that too long before FR runs out of folks to “Zot” — or to ask for support. Up to you, JimRob. Your call.

I’ve been in the Conservative movement for 30 years. I’ve been there, met Newt in the mid-80’s, watched his life and career. He’s had some great achievements. He’s also had some massive failures — personally, philosophically, politically.

He may be a man JimRob can support — and the majority of FreeRepublic. And I might end up pulling the lever for him in the end. But I will not campaign for him. I cannot trust him. He has not proven himself trustworthy over the last 3 decades.

The the contrary, Newt has shown himself to be a master of doublespeak, an expert at talking a good game, but then failing to carry through in most of his promises, while finding a way to benefit himself and excuse his own excesses.

I am NOT a Romney supporter. I do NOT like Mitt Romney. I started the same place as JimRob — supporting Sarah Palin. I understand why she didn’t run, and it saddens me that she chose not to — though I understand why. I then supported Michele Bachman, but she dropped out before the SC Primary. I chose last Saturday to vote for Rick Santorum, because although I am not crazy about all his positions on issues, I believe he is the closest thing to a Constitutional Conservative we have still in the race at this point who ALSO has personal Character and integrity.

I will continue to hope and pray Santorum picks up steam. Otherwise, otherwise, we will be faced with the establishment man, Mitt Romney, or the slick talking Progressive who I find it extremely to trust on personal issues — Newt Gingrich. That’s not a choice, that’s an insult to Constitutional Conservatives — and either one guarantees Obama 4 more years. Mark it down.

I am the first to acknowledge the necessity of an American military presence around the world. It is a strategic reality that our nation has GLOBAL national security interests, and we have enemies around the entire world that, in the age of Intercontinental Ballistic Missiles and nuclear weapons, necessitates our military be stationed at particular key locations to protect us. I understand the historic threat that was posed by Nazism, Fascism and Imperial Japan in WWII, and in the designs the Soviet Empire and Communists had on world conquest during the Cold War - it was real, and it had to be countered..... ALL that said, THIS article is just about the clearest piece of Neo-Conservative propaganda I’ve read in short form in a LONG time. Not that it isn’t accurate in parts — it is. Our nation has, in many ways, become an “empire.” The Founders did NOT intend it to be so — and we should CEASE MOST of those practices and programs that come from the Progressive/Neo-Conservative mindset that WE have to be the “policemen of the world,” the “nation-builders,” or the “champions of democracy.” And still, this would NOT satisfy the Libertarian-Isolationist-Paulites.

The NDAA does not suspend the Writ of Habeas Corpus for U.S. citizens. It does Constitutionally suspend the Writ of Habeas Corpus per Article 1 Section 9 Clause 2 of the U.S. Constitution for only those groups defined as “Covered Persons” in Section 1021 which include anyone involved in the 9/11/01 attacks, anyone who supported those involved, al-qaeda and the Taliban. They are all enemy combatants not afforded the same Constitutional rights as U.S. citizens, including the Writ of Habeas Corpus.

You are incorrect. Clever wording and fine print will serve the Federal Government, lawyers and bureaucrats well. The Feds most certainly CAN indefinitely detain US Citizens on US Soil. Why else would Obama say, “I have the power, but I won’t use it”? I would suggest you read sources other than mainstream media (even “mainstream ‘Conservative’ sources).

If the moron who wrote this at “Red Country” believes the Tea Party is in favor of national suicide by giving Ron Paul and his ilk control of our national security and foreign policy, he is sadly mistaken. Most of the Tea Party folks I know prefer to remain ALIVE and on guard against such dangers as the Islamofascists in Iran and terrorist al-Qaeda, and against the resurgent Marxists around the world - even in our own nation. Paul’s “if we don’t bother them they won’t bother us” nonsense will assure devastating attacks and inevitable disasters.Ron Paul is no Tea Partier — and no Conservative. And those who support him are foreign to those ideals as well....

TD Bank took over my local bank last year. At the time it irked me. Big bank takeover of small banks. Corporatism, cronyism, all that stuff, yada yada yada.

Well, I have appreciated the fact that they have more open hours - Saturdays for instance, and some holidays. Like today. And now that I know the NAACP has marched on a TD Bank for being open on MLK Day, I believe I will keep my account there. Not because I disrespect MLK. While I may not have agreed with his ideology as a whole, his accomplishments to bring true liberty to Black Americans is inarguable. But to tick off the NAACP for besmerching his memory by abusing it to bully businesses and other races and communities to submit to their agenda.

No, NAACP, we don’t bow to you. Thank you, TD Bank for setting a standard. I hope the way YOU honor Dr. King’s memory catches on, and supplants the way the NAACP SHAMES it.

First, if you listen to Rush regularly, you KNOW that Rush is critical of any number of Romney’s positions — and has been, CONSISTENTLY.

Second, Romney hasn’t been with Bain Capital for years, so even if Bain Capital DID own a part of Clear Channel, that Mitt would somehow be pulling Rush Limbaugh’s strings - not to mention all these other talk show hosts, is a ludicrous stretch.

Folks, despise Romney if you like. I don’t want him as the nominee either (though the Republican Establishment has made sure he’d be the one before a single vote was ever cast). But get real about Rush Limbaugh and so many of these other Talk Radio hosts, and even the Conservative Internet sites. They are all pretty much INDEPENDENT and call their own shots. Who pays Jim Rob for his support? Can he be bought? I THINK NOT. Nor do I think Rush and MOST of the others have a price that any of these politicians can afford.

I agree wmfights. Under the Old Covenant, in the Old Testament, the concept of the “indwelling” of the Holy Spirit does not appear with regard to Israel. Rather, the constant reference to God’s presence with Jews is that the Holy Spirit or “the Spirit of God came upon...” Difference dispensation, difference covenant, different economy, different order.....
