Obergefell, like Roe, was a particularly arbitrary, extreme, and unjust imposition on the people. Like Roe, it had no basis in the Constitution’s text or American custom. It was simply dreamed up by a group of unelected judges who decided the time had come for them to impose a radically new understanding of the most fundamental institution of human society. Like Roe, Obergefell took away from the people the power to decide the most basic moral questions and daily life in their communities. As Justice Scalia put it at the time, the Court was violating “a principle even more fundamental...

The Center for Disease Control and Prevention data from the new K-12 school year bolster the agency’s recommendation for masks in schools and in-person classes. One study in two Arizona counties found coronavirus outbreaks were almost four times more common at public schools without mask mandates on the first day than at those that re-opened with a masking requirement. Another study found case rates in children and teens increased more in U.S. counties where public schools had no mask mandates than in those where schools had that requirement. These studies lacked data on other measures that could have influenced the...

The paper’s conclusion is that the data trends observed...likely indicate that nonpharmaceutical interventions (NPIs) – such as lockdowns, closures, travel restrictions, stay-home orders, event bans, quarantines, curfews, and mask mandates – do not seem to affect virus transmission rates overall.

For months now, through constant COVID-19 Emergency Proclamations, Governor Inslee has abused the powers "We the People" gave him in the existing Emergency Powers Act He has refused to revoke Proclamations once the emergency it was based on has passed. OLYMPIA, Wash. — Gov. Jay Inslee on Thursday announced a series of new steps designed to curb a resurging coronavirus, including expanding an order that will allow businesses statewide to refuse service to customers who are not wearing face coverings. His new order will now apply statewide, he said, but customers who have an underlying medical condition that could be worsened by wearing a face mask will be exempt from the order. "This...

Washington’s “invasive,” “coercive” and “unprecedented” directive requiring residents to wear a mask or equivalent face covering in public places has been challenged by a lawsuit arguing the state cannot compel citizens to meekly support whatever newest guess the government is making when responding to the COVID-19 virus. Filed in Lewis County Superior Court on Wednesday by the Freedom Foundation on behalf of seven state residents, the action targets the face coverings order issued on June 24 by Washington Secretary of Health Dr. John Wiesman.

In the absence of any substantial scientific support, face mask wearing has become a largely political act. If you love authority, if you need to be told what to do–right or wrong!–you probably are wearing a mask. If you tend to be skeptical of authority (or if you remember that not long ago, the authorities were telling us not to wear masks), you likely aren’t. Like so many things in America these days, wearing face masks is more a marker than a practical action.
