• Vanity: My Simple Show of Support for Our Law Enforcement Officers

My own frustration... | June 23, 2020 | Ronaldus Magnus
Although I have always supported law enforcement and voted for candidates who support the rule of law, I have never felt the need to publicize my support before now. However, the videos I have seen of heroic police officers in Miami and elsewhere being abused and spat upon has changed my thinking. Furthermore, I have begun to notice more than a few “Black Lives Matter” signs popping up in the front lawns of my affluent and otherwise majority conservative county. The most shocking aspect of this widespread violence throughout the country over the last few weeks has been the silence...
  • Democratic National Convention postponed until August due to coronavirus pandemic

MILWAUKEE -- The 2020 Democratic National Convention has officially been postponed until August due to the coronavirus pandemic, the Democratic Party announced Thursday. The convention was originally scheduled for July 13-17. It will now be held the week of August 17. “In our current climate of uncertainty, we believe the smartest approach is to take additional time to monitor how this situation unfolds so we can best position our party for a safe and successful convention," said Joe Solmonese, CEO of the Democratic National Convention Committee. "During this critical time, when the scope and scale of the pandemic and its...

    Personal Observation ^ | December 22, 2019 | Ronaldus Magnus
A few minutes ago a strange, perfectly straight line of about 30 bright lights was visible moving across southern Wisconsin from the southwest to the northeast. They would appear just over the horizon and disappear as they came overhead. It was initially a quite shocking sight so Freepers might want to be on the lookout for them and know what they are before they first see them. These were the 60 or so SpaceX Starlink satellites orbiting at an altitude of 174 miles. They can be tracked using websites (https://www.satflare.com/track.asp?q=starlink and http://stuffin.space). They are visible only under clear skies shortly...

Meet My Teachers: Mom And DadA growing number of affluent parents think they can do better than any school No longer the bailiwick of religious fundamentalists or neo-hippies looking to go off the cultural grid, homeschooling is a growing trend among the educated elite. More parents believe that even the best-endowed schools are in an Old Economy death grip in which kids are learning passively when they should be learning actively, especially if they want an edge in the global knowledge economy. "A lot of families are looking at what's happening in public or private school and saying, 'You know...

    A Bush-Cheney 04 Volunteer | 6-21-04 | Vanity
I am organizing a Bush/Cheney 2004 volunteer sign-up at a local event and was just told that the State office won't be providing anything but shirt stickers and bumper stickers. I hope to have about a dozen volunteers and would like to give each of them a Bush-Cheney hat or t-shirt for helping out. Since my personal funds are limited, I would like to find an inexpensive source so that I can bring enough for everyone.

URGENT ACTION REQUESTED! Madness in Madison Christians Urged to Protest Corpus Christi Showing It has been six long years since playwright Terrence McNally first staged his play Corpus Christi in New York City. Since then, the work, which portrays Our Lord Jesus Christ and the apostles as homosexuals, has generated protests, local indignation and negative publicity at alternative theaters. Thousands of Catholics have come to Our Lord’s defense with vibrant and moving acts of reparation. No major venue has dared touched it. Since new plans to stage the play were made public, the American Society for the Defense of...

WAUSAU, Wis. -- A man upset that a war protester was parading around downtown Wausau with a defaced American flag is facing a disorderly conduct charge after attacking the demonstrator. The incident happened Monday afternoon outside the Marathon County Courthouse. Mike Wallschlaeger of Mosine carried an upside down flag with "EMPIRE" written across it. A fellow demonstrator says a man got out of his car, tried to grab the flag, then pushed Wallschlaeger to the ground, punched and kicked him. Wausau Police Chief William Brandimore says the right to free speech is protected, but disorderly conduct is not.

VATICAN CITY -- Pope John Paul II says that to preserve itself, the Roman Catholic Church has to be much more careful not to let men with "deviations in their affections" enter the priesthood.

The 82-year-old pontiff also re-affirmed the Church's rule on celibacy, saying it should not be seen as a "useless" imposition but a vital part of a tradition in which the priest offers himself unconditionally to God.

MONROE, Wis. -- An abortion opponent who publicizes his protests with large scale pictures of aborted fetuses said he's ready to continue his fight against Monroe if the city adopts another sign ordinance. The Common Council will hold a public hearing tonight on a second try at a sign ordinance. The first one it adopted was declared unconstitutional after Pastor Ralph Ovadal (pictured last summer at a Mazomanie nude beach protest) and Christ the King Church challenged it. The previous ordinance restricted the signs to 3 square feet, except for business signs. Ovadal and his followers had taken their large ...
