  • is anyone else having trouble with PNC online banking

    04/10/2019 5:46:50 PM PDT · by rudy45 · 20 replies
For the past two days, I have been unable to sign on. When I try to do so, I get a display :we are experiencing technical difficulties with online banking..." I have entered my password by copying and pasting. In addition, I have deliberately entered a wrong password, and doing so gives me a different error message. In other words, the above issue is not password-based. Is anyone else having this problem?

  • Word for Mac issue: saved open file suddenly becomes a "work file"

    12/16/2017 12:22:37 PM PST · by rudy45 · 8 replies
On many occasions, I will be working on a previously-saved Word document. Normally, after I make changes and save, it simply gets saved--that is, I get NO window to name the file, because the file already exists. Sometimes, however, when I save such an open, already-created file, the name of the file suddenly changes to be a work file. At the same time, I get the window and dialog for saving a file and specifying a location. I then have to re-save that file, because if I don't, I lose not only that work file but also the previously-saved file...

  • Why does/did George Strait do his "fake end of concert"?

    10/29/2010 7:45:38 AM PDT · by rudy45 · 43 replies · 1+ views
The last four times I have seen George Strait, he did the same thing: at the end of "Unwound," while the band is doing the ending, he thanks everyone for coming, then acknowledges the band. He then leaves the stage, then the band follows. After about three minutes, everyone comes back, and he does three or four more songs, ending of course with "The Cowboy Rides Away." Why does he do that? Are those last few songs supposed to be an encore? Is it really an encore if the whole thing is staged lol?
  • SpeakEasy iPhone app: sync to PC?

    10/06/2010 9:37:03 PM PDT · by rudy45 · 1 replies
I am trying to upload/sync a recording made on an iPhone via the app SpeakEasy. This app is written by Zarboo. Numerous sites reference their web site, www.zarboo.com However, that site doesn't seem to exist. These sites mention another app, apparently, called SpeakEasy Connect. From what i understand, it allows a person to move recordings from iPhone to iTunes. Has anyone done so? What happened to the Zarboo site, and have you successfully used SpeakEasy Connect? Thanks.
  • Why does my printer work with only one of my USB ports?

    08/27/2010 12:27:11 PM PDT · by rudy45 · 38 replies · 1+ views
I have an HP Laserjet4P printer that I connect to my Dell Vostro 1320 laptop via a parallel-to-USB cable. If I plug this cable into three of my four USB ports, I cannot print. I see, in my printer queue, the document, plus the remark "use printer offline." Only when I plug into the fourth USB port do I succeed in printing. When I do so, the "use printer offline" message disappears, the printer light blinks and prints and the queue entry disappears. What is going on? Thanks.
  • trouble viewing video from PC on HDTV

    08/05/2010 6:18:12 PM PDT · by rudy45 · 16 replies
We are trying to watch video from the Internet on an HDTV, by hooking up a PC to the TV via a video display cable. We can see, on the TV, almost all of what we see on the PC display. However, we do not see the actual video. All we see is a black rectangle on the TV. However, around it, we do see all the other graphics from the PC. What's going on? We are restarting the PC right now. Will that help? thanks.
  • question about bank SWIFT codes

    07/19/2010 7:42:12 PM PDT · by rudy45 · 5 replies
I understand the concept of SWIFT codes, i.e. they are used when wiring money from one bank to another bank, either domestic or foreign. I am unclear, however, why a given bank will have multiple SWIFT codes, depending on the department or branch of the bank. I would think and hope that by now, regardless of the bank, a customer could go into any branch of that bank and process the receipt of the wire transfer, because of that bank's computer systems? Does it make sense, therefore, that the sender must specify the code for a particular branch? Thanks.
  • how to "fine tune" a selection within Audacity?

    06/21/2010 5:42:21 PM PDT · by rudy45 · 4 replies
I am using Audacity to edit an audio file. Within this file, I would like to select a portion and add an effect. I want the effect to begin no earlier and no later than what I want. Similar to the ending. Right now,I am selecting a portion of the file based on an educated guess. Then I listen to the whole selection, and adjust the beginning and ending of the selection accordingly. The problem is, doing it this way takes a long time, because I have to listen to the whole selection. I thought I could just jump to...
  • Images are reversed for PowerPoint 2007 presenter view

    01/15/2010 4:33:40 PM PST · by rudy45 · 7 replies · 298+ views
I am experimenting with "presenter view" of PowerPoint 2007 on my Windows XP laptop. Almost everything is fine, except the images are reversed. That is, the "presenter" view (i.e. the image that has the current displayed slide, plus at the bottom the preceding and subsequent slides) is on the signal-cable-connected display (in this case, a secondary monitor, but in real life an LCD display). On the other hand, the "audience presentation" (i.e. just the slide show slides) are on the integrated display of the laptop. I really need to reverse these images, but can't seem to do so. I suspect...
  • What to do with existing partitions (clean reinstall of XP)

    01/01/2010 10:49:14 PM PST · by rudy45 · 18 replies · 1,320+ views
I want to "wipe the slate clean" on my Dell laptop, and reinstall Windows XP. I boot from the operating system CD, and get to a menu that shows existing partitions. FAT is about 10 Gb and NTFS-OS has about 230 GB. The system asks me where I want to put the new XP. I tried the FAT partition but it's too small. I selected NTFS but the system said it is a potential problem to have two operating systems on the same partition. I have backed up what I need, and am OK with wiping the disk clean. In...
  • Outlook Express 6 false error messages

    12/02/2009 12:01:22 PM PST · by rudy45 · 8 replies · 432+ views
Recently, strange things are happening with my Outlook Express 6. I will compose, then send a message. OE will give me the "sending" notice, then it will say "error," and the message will remain in my inbox. However, I believe the message actually was sent after all, and I confirmed by sending a test message to one of my alternate email accounts. In other words, the message apparently is actually sent, even though OE implies it wasn't, and even though the message remains in outbox, not in "sent" box. What is going on? thanks.
  • Theoretical upper limit of price for unlocked iPhone?

    11/29/2009 2:33:35 PM PST · by rudy45 · 17 replies · 1,202+ views
I am looking for an iPhone that I can later unlock and use with other carriers and plans. Let's take, for example, iPhone 3GS, 32 GB. Am I missing something in my analysis? Apple sells this 3GS for $299, provided you commit to a two year plan. If you cancel before that time, you pay a fee of $175. I have looked on the internet and see unlocking software for as little as $30. Given these facts, why then would anyone want to pay more than $299+$175+$30=$505 for an unlocked iPhone 3GS? I see prices of $600 and above on...
  • How to tell if my email address is being flagged as spam

    11/18/2009 7:41:00 AM PST · by rudy45 · 22 replies · 1,421+ views
From time to time, I get messages saying my earlier email was rejected or blocked for being spam. Is there some way I can get a report on my email address, sort of like a credit check? If my address has a bad reputation, how can I repair it. I am not sending spam, but perhaps someone is spooking me? Thanks.
  • installing custom Windows 7 using downloaded setup file

    11/05/2009 6:24:41 PM PST · by rudy45 · 13 replies · 777+ views
I have purchased Windows 7, and have downloaded it. I now have the file Win7-HP-Retail-en-us-x86. on my desktop. I would like to do a custom install (i.e. wipe out everything on the disk and reinstall software), not an upgrade. Therefore: - MUST I copy this win7 application to a CD or DVD? I'm thinking I should, because if I don't, won't the installation of Windows 7 wipe out the Windows installation file itself? - If I do have to burn a CD or DVD with this Win7 file, must I make it bootable? I need the computer to boot off...
  • Outlook Express backup wizard issue

    10/21/2009 6:43:27 AM PDT · by rudy45 · 5 replies · 337+ views
I am using Outlook Express Backup Wizard to move my messages from an old computer to a new one. It seems, however, to have overlooked the backup of my "sent" messages. Has anyone run into this issue? The backup and restore options do not provide "granularity" as far as specifying which mail folders do or don't get backed up or restored. Thanks.
  • other suggestions to recover a PowerPoint 2002 file

    10/11/2009 9:14:27 PM PDT · by rudy45 · 8 replies · 1,037+ views
My wife was working on a PowerPoint 2002 presentation on her Sony Vaio laptop, using Vista home. She saved the file, then kept working on it. Then, PowerPoint suddenly ended/crashed. When she restarted PowerPoint and attempted to reopon the file, she got the message that the file caused a serious error, and did she want to open it? She answered yes, and PowerPoint simply hung up while trying to open the file. Since that time, I have tried creating a new presentation and inserting slides from the other one, but that method didn't succeed. I also have tried simply double...
  • Trouble upload a document, via Amazon DTP, with Chinese characters

    09/17/2009 2:54:50 PM PDT · by rudy45 · 4 replies · 410+ views
I am trying to upload, via Amazon DTP, a document that has Chinese characters. If I upload a Word document, I get a message saying that the upload failed because of Unicode conversion problems. If i convert the Word document to a PDF, the upload happens, but instead of seeing characters, I see question marks. Can I upload Chinese characters via DTP? Thanks.
