Hi! Well, I have a rwd car with summer tires and the fwd car is out of town. The small amount of sleet on the road has trapped me in the house. The weather guy said we'd be cool until noon, but who believes him anyway. Well, I'm a little unprepared (I know, I know) so I need a ghetto way to deice a small patch on my back deck so I can let the dog out without breaking our necks. I'm sure table salt works well, but how much should I use? I don't want to waste it, not...

  • Need help with name of specific labor statistic

    08/26/2004 2:09:33 PM PDT · by ruiner · 10 replies · 239+ views
I was listening to a radio show here in Charlotte at 2pm and a statistic was cited. I cannot remember the name of the show or statistic. However, the statistic was a ratio of labor hours worked to total possible labor hours. It was stated that Americans work almost 75% of all possible labor hours, with Britain being second at 63%. France was close to 50%. The implication being that we work for the wonderful things we have in this country (news to most Europeans and liberals). i.e. Americans worked a total of 100 hours (just an example) out of...
  • Conservatism and Free-Trade (Vanity)

I've never fully understood the link between conservatives and free trade. I was reading the platform of the Constitution Party and it said they were "anti-free trade". Why would a conservative be against free trade? I'm most likely exposing my ignorance but wouldn't that involve the application of taxes on foreign goods, which enriches the government and becomes another method of federal control? Anyone have any thoughts to share. I'm a "self taught" conservative who should have paid better attention in my college government classes. Wait, on second thought scratch that last sentence!
  • US Nuclear Stockpile Not a Threat (Vanity)

Countries across the world can breathe a sigh of relief as it was revealed today the America's nuclear stockpile dates back to the 1940's, 50's and 60's. North Korea spokesman Kim Il Jung Yu stated, "We were afraid of nuclear conflict with the United States, but it has been revealed that these are old weapons built for a possible war with the Soviet Union. Therefore they pose no threat to North Korea." China, Cuba, and Sudan agreed. France surrendered, just to be on the safe side. Sound Familiar?

Can anyone recommend a good weekly current events publication. I'm looking for something along the lines of Time, but preferable a little less biased. Sorry for the vanity and thanks in advance for any responses.
