A Log-Log plot of new New York cases of Covid-19 versus total New York cases of Covid 19 appears to show how "stay at home" and "stay a safe distance from others" has affected the numbers of new cases in New York. I plotted the cases for all of New York (i.e., upstate, NYC, Long Island, etc., combined). Here is the plot (I can't seem to show the plot, but clicking on the link below will show it): https://drive.google.com/open?id=1KxT_FdfxrYNpWw4l2qs4rG3oZ0q-YnIU Initially, the Log-Log plot shows an exponential increase in cases, as shown by the blue line. I ran across a couple of documents relative to the meaning of Natural Born Citizen, a concept that was a matter of serious discussion in recent presidential elections. The first of these were 1783 notes by Thomas Jefferson on the meaning of "natural subjects", i.e., when people fit the definition of natural subjects of a country and when they did not. Jefferson’s notes were in part to answer the status of a lady’s son with respect to whether he could inherit property in England. The second item I found was a 1790 US law that defines people born outside of...

Here are excerpts from 27 Southern and 12 Northern and Border state newspaper editorials published in the first few days after Lincoln’s first inaugural speech. They give some flavor of how sharply divided people were at that time. Many of the Southern newspapers called the inaugural speech a declaration of war against the South, while Northern newspapers were split largely along Democrat/Republican lines. Southern newspapers The Alexandria (VA) Gazette (Union): The inaugural will not satisfy disaffected persons in the South. The Alexandria (VA) Sentinel (secession): The inaugural address is a declaration of war. The Athens (AL) Herald: Mr. Lincoln’s inaugural,...
  • Music Industry Plotting to Control Your Record Collection

The WSJ has an article about how the record industry may soon try to lease recordings rather than sell them. If you fall behind on your "rent" payments, your music collection evaporates. Also, new copy-protected CDs apparently redefine the concept of owning a CD. If you buy one of these, you may not be able to transfer the music to your computer or burn your favorite music onto your own CDs or transfer songs to MP3 players.
