I reckon you also have to read around Churchill. The bio’ by Lord Moran, the King’s surgeon attended (almost lived in Churchill’s pocket) for the entire period of his Prime Ministership, is a good start.
Then see some of the people he “sponsored” in WW2, Percy Hobart is one exceptional example, the first man to create and command an armoured brigade in the late 20s, and after Churchill resurrected him, the commander of the largest armoured division in WW 2, 79 Div (RE).
