  • Computer Help Needed - Outlook 2003

    01/04/2005 4:35:11 AM PST · by savedbygrace · 18 replies · 554+ views
I need help here. The motherboard in one of our computers fried, and I've had to replace it (and the CPU, RAM, HDD, and case). I've done a clean install of Windows XP Pro SP1a, and I'll be installing MS Office 2003 today. So, I have an existing Outlook 2003 .pst file that contains all of the emails and Calendar information we need. My question is: what step-by-step procedure should I use that will result in this existing .pst file being the default mail location file. I've tried doing this with other computers I've built, but the Outlook Help files...
  • Vanity - Are OEM Software Deals Legitimate?

    11/27/2004 5:46:34 PM PST · by savedbygrace · 56 replies · 1,626+ views
These super deals on OEM software I see advertised, like WordPerfect Office 12 for $18.95, are they legitimate? Some of them include a piece of computer hardware, like an obsolete RAM module or something else small, and they say that makes it legal. I assume they include a serial number to install the application, and I assume that's a legitimate, unlicensed, unique serial number.
  • Desperately Seeking WinXP Computer Help

My WindowsXP Pro computer is in serious trouble and I need help. This morning, I started it up and it wouldn't let me log on into Windows, saying some system files were bad, or some such. I stupidly forgot about System Restore and proceeded to try a Windows Repair from the WindowsXP CD. Unfortunately, I inserted the wrong CD and now the system is broken. You see, I have three WinXP Pro computers, the broken one was installed with a pre-SP1 CD (although I've updated it to SP1), the other two were installed with SP1a discs. Well, I inserted one...
  • Fun with Fingerprint Readers

Fun with Fingerprint Readers Tsutomu Matsumoto, a Japanese cryptographer, recently decided to look at biometric fingerprint devices. These are security systems that attempt to identify people based on their fingerprint. For years the companies selling these devices have claimed that they are very secure, and that it is almost impossible to fool them into accepting a fake finger as genuine. Matsumoto, along with his students at the Yokohama National University, showed that they can be reliably fooled with a little ingenuity and $10 worth of household supplies. Matsumoto uses gelatin, the stuff that Gummi Bears are made out of. First...
  • Need FReeper Help - 2002 Survey of Business Owners and Self-Employed Persons

    05/22/2004 9:17:08 AM PDT · by savedbygrace · 6 replies · 133+ views
I need help. Back in 2000, I sent in my Census form with only the Constitutionally required information on it. Yesterday, I received in the mail from the Commerce Department a 2002 Survey of Business Owners and Self-Employed Persons. Now this puppy is intrusive and it says I MUST complete it. I am furious about this intrusion, and strongly suspect some mid-level Census Bureau-cRAT is getting even with those of us who took a strong Constitutional stand against their intrusion in 2000. The form is OMB No. 0607-0902, and the questions it asks range from what's your race to where...
  • (Vanity) Fox Sports Broadcasting at 15 frames per second?

    Fox Sports Broadcast
I'm watching the Rams-Redskins football game on the local Fox station and it looks like the football game is being broadcast at 15 fps. It's like watching a streaming broadcast on the internet. Anyone else seeing this? I'm watching on KOKI TV 23 out of Tulsa and all the commercials seem to be normal, but everything from Fox Sports is weird looking.
  • I Need Computer Help with MS Outlook

    10/05/2002 6:14:35 PM PDT · by savedbygrace · 61 replies · 466+ views
I need some advice and help. I just got slammed by a misbehaving app's installer and my WinXP box crashed hard. I've gotten everything back up, except for one vitally important item. When I started MS Outlook, it could not open my Default pst file. That, of course, has my Calendar and tons of saved email messages. The last backup I did was 9/26/02, so I've only lost 9 days, but if there's a way to restore the more current, but corrupted, pst file, I'd sure like to do it. Everytime I move that pst back to the Default location,...

Imagine if all the major automobile makers required all buyers of their products to accept a contract along the following lines: You may not open the hood of this vehicle. You may not make the minor modifications necessary to operate this vehicle in any country other than the United States. If you find a safety defect in this vehicle, you may not report it to any third party. If you violate any of terms 1 through 3, you can be sent to prison for up to ten years. This contract is the Digital Millennium Copyright Act of 1998. It applies ...
  • Twas the night before Ramadan

Twas the night before Ramadan As Osama, the louse Was plotting with Omar; His soon-to-be spouse. The Taliban were nestled, All snug in their caves And they dreamt of young virgins Who would soon be their slaves. Out in the desert, There arose such a clatter They crept from their caves To see what was the matter. Not far in the distance There came a strange sound. Lo and behold; They saw a mushroom-shaped cloud. Before Osama evaporated He knew it was true: His ass had been kicked By the Red, White, and Blue

Earlier this evening, on C-SPAN, the Senate was having a hearing on mental health or some such government emergency. Senators Clinton and Kennedy were the only senators I saw. After Clinton droned on interminably, Kennedy started in. Mostly, I blanked out on whatever he was blathering about. Then, he blurted out a phrase that zapped me into consciousness. He said something about needing to achieve "mental health parity." I was riveted to the screen, but he never explained. Is anyone familiar with this concept? I suspect the parity he wants involves huge quantities of cash, but I admit it might ...

  • Squalene In Anthrax Shots

    October 30, 2000 | Paul M. Rodriquez
Squalene In Anthrax Shots by Paul M. Rodriquez Since July 1997 Insight has been reporting on the presence of antibodies to a substance called squalene that has shown up in the blood of sick U.S. soldiers of the Persian Gulf War era — both those who served overseas during the conflict and those who were called to service but never deployed. The theme that has run throughout these reports, contrary to many erroneous statements by Department of Defense (DOD) officials, has been a simple one: How and why does something that shouldn’t be there show up in the blood of ...

If you've ever wondered, here are "The Rules" 1. The Female always makes The Rules. 2. The Rules are subject to change without notice. 3. No Male can possibly know all The Rules. 4. If the Female suspects the Male knows all The Rules, she must immediately change some of The Rules. 5. The Female is never wrong. 6. If at anytime it appears the Female is wrong, it is usually because of a flagrant misunderstanding which was caused by something the Male did or said wrong. 7. If Rule 6 applies, the Male must apologize immediately for causing the ...
  • FReeper Prayer Needed

    05/22/2000 6:44:07 PM PDT · by savedbygrace · 70+ views
My 83 year old mother took a bad fall today and is in desperate need of prayer. For a number of years, she has had little or no feeling below the knee, and recently has had much trouble walking or keeping her balance. On a trip to the post office today, she lost her balance, tried to steady herself against a car, and instead, her hand slipped and she fell hard to the pavement. They rushed her to the hospital, but the swelling was so great that they couldn't even risk removing her blouse. They did an X-Ray, and told ...

I need computer help ASAP. I'm baffled by this sudden problem with my system. I built this Pentium 200MMX a little less than a year ago and, though it's had its share of problems, never have I seen this. First, here's the system: Pentium 200 MMX, 128M SDRAM, 6.4MB HDD, running Windows 98. I have an Acer 36X CD-ROM, an HP ScanJet 4100 USB scanner, an HP 4P LaserJet printer, a Logitech Wheelman USB mouse, and a Logitech Internet keyboard. I installed the USB mouse about 6 or 7 weeks ago, and I don't think I've used the scanner since ...
  • The New School Prayer

The New School Prayer Now I sit me down in school Where praying is against the rule. For this great nation under God Finds mention of Him very odd. If Scripture now the class recites, It violates the Bill of Rights. And anytime my head I bow Becomes a federal matter now. Our hair can be purple or orange or green, That's no offense, it's the freedom scene. The law is specific, the law is precise, Prayers spoken aloud are a serious vice. For praying in a public hall Might offend someone with no faith at all. In silence alone ...
