AT THE risk of sounding like I've been sucking on sour grapes for the past few days, let me say something that, for me at least, needs to be said: We non-Obama voters shouldn't be bullied into supporting our new president. Now that I've gotten your attention, allow me to explain. It's become common since the election to hear people say "even if you didn't vote for him, even if you don't agree with his policies, we as Americans should all support Barack Obama." The implication: If we love this country, we want its leader to succeed. You know, the...

Head Strong: McCain fails the big five tests His aim is untrue in too many areas, so a longtime Republican is voting for Obama. By Michael Smerconish - Inquirer Inquirer Currents Columnist I've decided. My conclusion comes after reading the candidates' memoirs and campaign platforms, attending both party conventions, interviewing both men multiple times, and watching all primary and general-election debates. John McCain is an honorable man who has served his country well. But he will not get my vote. For the first time since registering as a Republican 28 years ago, I'm voting for a Democrat for president. I...
  • Rendell's Testimony: He Would Consider Lying Under Oath

    The Bulletin (Philadelphia) ^ | June 2, 2008 | Bradley Vasoli
Philadelphia - Gov. Ed Rendell (D) said in a federal deposition on Jan. 2, 2002 that if asked under oath about a hypothetical instance of adultery on his part, he might not answer honestly, The Bulletin has learned. Mr. Rendell was then a gubernatorial candidate responding to lawyers for Don and Teri Adams about events that transpired on Oct. 2, 1998, when the brother and sister protested a Philadelphia visit by Bill Clinton in anticipation of the president's impeachment. Members of the Teamsters union assaulted the two that evening. Mr. and Miss Adams received civil recompense for the actions of...
  • Adams V. Teamsters, Rendell, Et Al (Did Rendell commit perjury and obstruct justice?)

    The Bulletin (Philadelphia) ^ | 05-29-2008 | Bradley Vasoli
Philadelphia - A union staffer's 2002 court declaration asserted that current governor and former Philadelphia mayor Ed Rendell (D) encouraged Teamsters to pursue assault charges against a nonviolent protester, The Bulletin has learned. Testimony Mr. Rendell offered earlier that year differed markedly from the account. The differing versions emerge from the saga of assault victim Don Adams's arduous legal battles. After the Teamsters agreed in March to settle his almost decade-long civil action, Mr. Adams found the justice he received welcome, if incomplete. Mr. Adams, his sister Teri and about 40 others went to Center City to protest a visit...

Every four years pundits get to swing for the fences. Only the timid split differences and hairs. The pundits worth reading will declare what they see in the very cloudy crystal ball. Here's my take. There are two very separate battles within the fight for the GOP presidential nomination. There is the contest between Mitt Romney, Mike Huckabee, and Fred Thompson to be the conservative challenger to Rudy Giuliani. And then there is the contest between that challenger and the former New York City mayor. It is Rudy's hope that the race to be his opponent for the Republican nomination...

Click photo to enlargeMitt Romney (The Associated Press)«1»WASHINGTON - Many pundits have said that presidential candidate Mitt Romney's Mormon faith will be a hindrance to his 2008 bid, but a new poll shows that voters believe he is more religious than any of the other contenders out there. A Time magazine poll hitting newsstands this week asked voters whether each candidate is a "person of strong religious faith." One in four voters say that Romney is, more than Barack Obama, John Edwards, Hillary Clinton, John McCain and Rudy Giuliani. Previous polls have all shown that a distinct swath of voters...

Today: March 09, 2005 at 19:23:14 PST Plans Afoot to Keep Schiavo Feeding Tube By MITCH STACY ASSOCIATED PRESS CLEARWATER, Fla. (AP) - Florida's social services agency and Republican state lawmakers acted on two fronts Wednesday to block the March 18 removal of a feeding tube for a woman at the center of a contentious right-to-die case. The Department of Children & Family Services sought to intervene in the case to investigate allegations of abuse and neglect by Terri Schiavo's husband, while Republican lawmakers crafted a bill requiring that incapacitated people be given water and nutrition unless a living will...

VICKIE CHACHERE Associated Press TAMPA, Fla. - Terri Schiavo's parents asked a Pinellas court judge Monday to allow her to divorce her husband - in either life or death - in a court filing accusing Michael Schiavo of adultery and not acting in his wife's best interests. The filing was one of a flurry of 15 motions filed by Bob and Mary Schindler as they now have less than three weeks to find a legal way to keep their severely brain-damaged daughter alive. Terri Schiavo is scheduled to have the feeding tube that has kept her alive for 15 years...

CLEARWATER, Fla. (AP) - It's been 15 years since Terri Schiavo's heart stopped beating for several minutes, causing severe brain damage that put her into what doctors call a persistent vegetative state. For almost seven of those years, her husband Michael has been fighting to stop her feedings, arguing that she didn't want to be kept alive artificially. Terri Schiavo is now 41 and still in a hospice after myriad twists and turns in a dramatic legal and ideological battle that has pitted her parents against their son-in-law. Whether there's an end in sight is anybody's guess.......... Schiavo Legal Fight...

(CNN) -- A Florida judge is expected to decide Wednesday whether Terri Schiavo's husband can remove the feeding tube that keeps the severely brain-damaged woman alive. Pinellas County Circuit Court Judge George W. Greer scheduled a hearing in Clearwater on a request by her parents, Robert and Mary Schindler, to block the tube's removal until they can pursue additional legal challenges. Greer agreed Tuesday to issue a stay until the hearing after a state appeals court cleared the way for the tube to be removed. Full Story.
