Ok, so the press has had their 5 days of wringing hands, gnashing of teath an crying in their beer that they could not get the Johns elected. My question is now what? What will we see from the traditional news media? More anti-Bush crap? More "homelessness explodes" stories? More pictures of dead bodies from Iraq. Or, do you think they will want to try and build some "good faith" with the WhiteHouse? Will we start to see some of the good being done in Iraq and Afganistan on the nightly news? What do you think? As for me..... I'm...

Democratic state Attorney General Ken Salazar and Republican brewery executive Pete Coors won landslide victories in Tuesday's primaries to set up one of the nation's most anticipated U.S. Senate races. Salazar leveled the insurgent campaign of Mike Miles, a Colorado Springs educator, and Coors crushed his opponent, former congressman and conservative firebrand Bob Schaffer. Coors, a first-time political candidate, now faces Salazar, a rare Democrat who has won two statewide races in Colorado during the past decade. The race commands national attention because it will help determine which party controls the Senate. It also could affect the outcome of the...

Acid rain restricts global warming by reducing methane emissions from natural wetland areas, suggests a global climate study. Acid rain is the result of industrial pollution, which causes rainwater to carry small quantities of acidic compounds such as sulphuric and nitric acid. Contaminated rainwater can upset rivers and lakes, killing fish and other organisms and also damage plants, trees and buildings. But the new study shows that sulphur in acid rain, may have benefits, limiting global warming by counteracting the natural production of methane gases by microbes in wetland areas. Methane is thought to account for 22 percent of the...

First, allow me to say that I hold the greatest respect for President Reagan. He was a great man, with great vision, and was a great leader. Not wanting to sound crass but I was wondering how Freepers felt this would affect this year's elections. I'm of the opinion that the more Kerry talks, the more President Bush does better in the polls. I was worried that with the kintoon's book coming out, that the attention would not be focused on Kerry. Now, with the passing of perhaps the greatest President this nation has seen in 50 years, I wonder...

DENVER - More Republicans have decided against running for the soon-to-be-open Senate seat. Congressman Tom Tancredo said Friday morning he is withdrawing his name from the list of possible candidates. "After much prayer and soul searching, I have decided that I can best accomplish the goals that I have set out to achieve by staying in the House of Representatives," said Tancredo in a written release. "The people of the 6th district elected me to serve as their Congressman, and that's exactly what I plan to do." Congressman Scott McInnis is expected to announce his decision on whether to run...

The nation's unemployment rate dropped to 5.6 percent in January to the lowest level in more than two years as companies added 112,000 jobs, providing fresh signs the prolonged hiring slump may be ending. The jobless rate fell 0.1 percentage point last month to the lowest level since October 2001, when it was 5.4 percent, the Labor Department said Friday. January's rate matched the 5.6 percent posted in January 2002. Employers added jobs last month at a pace not seen in three years. The last time payrolls expanded more than 112,000 was in December 2000, when companies added 124,000 positions....

That We Mattered To You The embers glowed softly, and in their dim light, I gazed round the room and I cherished the sight. My wife was asleep, her head on my chest, my daughter beside me, angelic in rest. Outside the snow fell, a blanket of white, Transforming the yard to a winter delight. The sparkling lights in the tree, I believe, Completed the magic that was Christmas Eve. My eyelids were heavy, my breathing was deep, Secure and surrounded by love I would sleep In perfect contentment, or so it would seem. So I slumbered, perhaps I started...

The key gene that keeps embryonic stem cells in a state of youthful immortality has been discovered. The breakthrough may one day contribute to turning ordinary adult cells into those with the properties of human ESCs. This would end the need to destroy embryos to harvest the cells for new medical treatments. ESCs are unique as they are "pluripotent" - capable of differentiating into the different cells in the body - and hold great potential for treating damaged or diseased organs. But until now scientists did not know how a stem cell renews itself or develops into an new kind...

Just half a teaspoon of cinnamon a day significantly reduces blood sugar levels in diabetics, a new study has found. The effect, which can be produced even by soaking a cinnamon stick your tea, could also benefit millions of non-diabetics who have blood sugar problem but are unaware of it. The discovery was initially made by accident, by Richard Anderson at the US Department of Agriculture's Human Nutrition Research Center in Beltsville, Maryland. "We were looking at the effects of common foods on blood sugar," he told New Scientist. One was the American favourite, apple pie, which is usually spiced...

My wife has a friend starting in the education field. As such, this person is already being spoon fed the standard teacher's union drival. What I find most disheartning is that she makes claims without any supporting facts -- I know, common for the liberal mindset but still frustrating. The basic complaint that this person goes along these lines - Bush is cutting funding for education Bush is cutting funding for pre-school programs etc etc. Now my quick visit to the the whitehouse's budget links shows that to not be true but she does not "trust" any links directly associated...

A buffer overflow vulnerability exists in Microsoft IIS 5.0 running on Microsoft Windows 2000. IIS 5.0 is installed and running by default on Microsoft Windows 2000 systems. This vulnerability may allow a remote attacker to run arbitrary code on the victim machine. An exploit is publicly available for this vulnerability, which increases the urgency that system administrators apply a patch. See http://www.cert.org/advisories/CA-2003-09.html for details.

Once upon a time in a forest there lived an orphaned bunny and an orphaned snake. By chance they were both blind from birth. One day the bunny was hopping through the forest and the snake was slithering along and the bunny tripped over the snake and fell down. This, of course, knocked the snake around quite a bit also. "Oh my, said the bunny, I'm terribly sorry. I didn't mean to hurt you. I've been blind since birth and in fact, since I'm an orphan, I don't even know what I am." The snake said "That's OK, actually my...

What with all the sadness and trauma going on in the world at the moment, it is worth reflecting on the death of a very important person which almost went un-noticed last week. Larry La Prise, the man who wrote "The Hokey Pokey" died peacefully at age 93. The most traumatic part for his family was getting him into the coffin. They put his left leg in - and then the trouble started...

<p>The update to version 2.1 of Red Hat Advanced Server, distributed Thursday and Friday of last week, also was the first in a new plan to release updates once per quarter, company spokeswoman Leigh Day said Tuesday. Red Hat is becoming increasingly aggressive in steering customers and business partners to the premium product instead of its Professional and Personal editions, which can be downloaded for free.</p>

<p>FORT COLLINS, Colorado (AP) -- Giant beakers filled with blood clutter countertops and extra refrigerators cramp the hallways at the federal government's main research center for West Nile virus.</p>
<p>Scientists at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have had to sharply shift the focus of their work toward the sometimes fatal disease that is spreading across most of the country.</p>

Republican Bob Beauprez is the first congressman from Colorado’s 7th Congressional District. In the end, Beauprez pulled 81,530 votes and Feeley garnered 81,408 votes. Just 122 votes separated the two candidates, which will trigger an automatic recount of the results. Feeley won Adams and Arapahoe counties outright, but couldn’t overcome Beauprez’s lead in Jefferson County. The final vote tally came just after noon when clerks in the three counties that make up the district - Adams, Arapahoe and Jefferson - all finished their final counts. The clerks had been delayed in producing vote totals because of a court ruling requiring...
