Leading Linux seller Red Hat quietly released an updated version of its Advanced Server product last week that adds support for IBM's x440 server, an important expansion for both companies.

The update to version 2.1 of Red Hat Advanced Server, distributed Thursday and Friday of last week, also was the first in a new plan to release updates once per quarter, company spokeswoman Leigh Day said Tuesday. Red Hat is becoming increasingly aggressive in steering customers and business partners to the premium product instead of its Professional and Personal editions, which can be downloaded for free.

  • Beauprez wins by 122 votes; recount is automatic (CO 7th update)

    11/22/2002 8:16:19 AM PST · by taxcontrol · 20+ views
Republican Bob Beauprez is the first congressman from Colorado’s 7th Congressional District. In the end, Beauprez pulled 81,530 votes and Feeley garnered 81,408 votes. Just 122 votes separated the two candidates, which will trigger an automatic recount of the results. Feeley won Adams and Arapahoe counties outright, but couldn’t overcome Beauprez’s lead in Jefferson County. The final vote tally came just after noon when clerks in the three counties that make up the district - Adams, Arapahoe and Jefferson - all finished their final counts. The clerks had been delayed in producing vote totals because of a court ruling requiring...

What the ruling said Denver District Court Judge William Robbins issued a 16-page ruling a day after hearing arguments from the candidates, the attorney general's office and clerks from Adams, Arapahoe and Jefferson counties. Highlights: • "The right to vote is a fundamental right of the first order." • "Equal protection applies to the manner of exercise of the right to vote, and a violation of equal protection of the laws exists where there has been arbitrary and disparate treatment of members of a jurisdiction's electorate." What the ruling means • Jefferson County: Ballots not affected by the ruling. •...

Question - If an "at will" employer bans the carrying of weapons of any sort, and the person is granted a CCW permit. What are / should be the legal obligations of the employer. For example, A person is being stalked, they obtain a CCW permit but in order to obey the rules of the company, leaves their weapon in the car. Later, the perp comes to the office and harms or kills the person. Should the company be held in some way responsible for disarming the employee? Should the CCW laws include provisions that outline a companies responsibilities in...
  • N. Korea / Lautenburg ties (??)

Anyone know if Forrester can show a tie between Lautenburg and the N. Korean Nukes? Did Lautenburg vote on any pro-N. Korea bills? It could be a windfall by showing that Lautenburg is "out of touch" and "too willing to turn a blind eye" for the citizens of NJ. Possibly question Lautenburg's judgement? Any NJ Freepers with connections to the Forrester campain want to raise the issue?

[Sigh] Having realized how this election could hang on the turn of a few voters, I decided to make sure that I was registered to vote. Being a good citizen and having already registered in my county, I decided to update my address due to a recent move. Now in Colorado, this is done via the DMV where you are SUPPOSED to be able to change your DMV address and your voting address through reregistering to vote. Alas, it is not so. In order to change my address, I contacted my DMV office and found that the closest DMV office....

[sigh] Well, it is now obvious why I don't win office pools. Of course, it would have been easier had I known that Denver was only going to play the last two quarters.

Ok folks, time to get the predictions going for tonight. Who is going to win? Broncos (3-0) vs Ravens (0-2) @ Baltimore. Being from Colorado I've got to go with the Broncos. Of course, it is an easy call. The Ravens have not been able to put together a decent offense and the Denver defense is pretty tough so far. I don't think the Ravens will have much of a chance to score. However, the Raven's defense is no slouch either - 3rd in AFC. Considering that Denver's passing Offense is 30th in the NFL and the Raven's passing defense...

SEATTLE — When investment bank Dresdner Kleinwort Wasserstein began making the switch to the Linux computer operating system in 1999, it did so to save money. The Germany-based bank sought a less-costly way to calculate risks associated with its portfolio of investments. So it replaced 32 computer servers, based on the time-tested Unix operating systems, at an average cost of $50,000 each, with 40 Linux servers, at $3,000 a pop. Then Dresdner discovered a bonus: Linux, the upstart open-source operating system, was not only cheaper — but also faster. The Unix servers took 17 hours to calculate how much cash...

"Resource wars" ignite around the world A favourite prediction of environmentalism has bitten the dust - too many natural resources, rather than too few, are the cause of an increasing numbers of wars in the 21st century. Many greens had predicted that the new century would see a rash of wars in countries where natural resources such as timber, water, minerals and fertile soils are running out. But far from it, says the 2002 State of the World report from the prestigious Washington-based think-tank, the Worldwatch Institute. In fact, says the report's co-author Michael Renner, there are "numerous places in...

Folks, I would like to ask the UK Freepers for a contact in the UK. I need to make a business complaint and would like to go to an organization simular to the BBB here in the US. I was recently treated VERY poorly by a customer service agent and would like to warn others about this organization. I don't think anyone should be subject to the personal attacks and profanity that I endured.
