I’m sure the DC chapter would deeply appreciate anything you can help them with, hummingbird.
There are many fine, dedicated groups that provide support to the wounded, injured and ill combat troops and their families at the hospitals, easily found if you do a google search.
A WWII USMC Veteran I know was on a ship in the Pacific headed to war when the Japanese surrendered. They had to go in to some of the islands and “do clean up”.
He told me that when the ship arrived back home, the Red Cross was there selling coffee and donuts for a nickle. They had to walk right past them when they left the ship. Their Commander told them they *had* to buy it, they had *no* choice, they could not say no. This was on US soil. He has not given one cent to the Red Cross since.
NEMDF, yes, Bethesda is still open. Construction has been going on there for some time at the NNMC to enable Walter Reed and Bethesda to combine into one place. The last I read, September 2011 is the target date for this to happen.
Time magazine = Tim McGirk. He wrote the story but wouldn’t visit Haditha to check out his “sources” (so-called human rights group) info because it was too dangerous.

Depending where you are located in DC, Maryland has two Blue Star Mothers groups that might be close to you. I’m not sure where they meet. One is on the western shore and one is on the eastern shore. You can go to the BSM site to locate a chapter near you. http://www.bluestarmothers.org. On the left side of their web page you will see a link to click on to do that. I don’t know if VA or DC has a chapter.
What you are going through is normal. Stay busy, busy, busy, stay strong for your son, stay positive, and “keep the faith”. Count down to homecoming. There is nothing you can do other than pray, write letters, and send care packages.
All the best to your son, I will keep him in my prayers. As you can see from all the replies to your post, you are not alone. :) Sending you a Freepmail.
