I remember that time so well. I was born in 1937. My parents both worked for Civil Service at Keesler Field in Biloxi, MS. My dad was a propeller mechanic and Mother was an accountant in an office there. Daddy worked on all different planes but his favorite was the Flying Tiger. I have pictures of them. Mother knitted Olive drab yarn for socks for the troops. Lots of good memories for me of people helping one another and coming together to help out. No other time like it.
You can also develope neuropathy without diabetes. I developed it eight years ago. It’s called Idiopathic Peripheral Neuropathy. They don’t know what causes it. It’s terrible and debilating. There isn’t any medication or treatment to even help with the problems it causes.I agree with you it is a curse!
I can sympathize with you on the pain of periphal neuropathy. Mine is idiopathic, I’m not diabetic and don’t have health issues that have caused it.
I was prescribed Gabapentin and chose not to take it due to the many side effects and no real guarantee it would be effective.
I have found Capsaicin gel is working for me. I apply it all over my feet and it seems to desensitize the area. I apply it at bedtime.
Occasionally I have to use it a couple of times but that’s all. Until recently I got it at Wal-Mart but they quit selling it so I have to order it from Amazon. Capsaicin, 0.025% and 10% menthol. It comes in a tube with a sponge applicator so you don’t have to get it on your hands. It seems to be a simple solution with no side effects. I did find the full strength Capsaicin was too strong and painful. This, maybe because of the menthol, doesn’t burn.

I remember the FR chat room very well. I have been trying to remember others from those early days but she was so active and had lots of information gathered and cataloged on the Clintons.
