  • McCONNELL: ‘Surely this isn’t the consensus position of Senate Democrats’

Go Mitch!! - do Kentucky proud.

I’d like to see more aggressive positions by the Republican leadership. In fact, I believe President Bush should directly dispute and challenge this statement with strong words outlining why Reid is wrong. There is an opportunity here to frame the debate as “winners -vs- losers”. For some reason, up to this point, the President has been unwilling to carry the fight in a confrontational manner. If this statement by Reid doesn’t open the door to that type of response, nothing will.

I’m already disgusted by the constant second-guessing. The press kept talking about a “lock-down” - how about focusing on the lunatic responsible. With their 20/20 hindsight, they want to come across as so brilliant that they cannot understand why the admininstration and police couldn’t foresee this tragedy - which by-the-way is the worst in U.S. history. Many of the interviews I have seen are people posturing for lawsuits. Lock-downs, gun control, metal detectors, guarded or carded entries 24/7 - all these MAY have stopped the killer, but there is no guarantee. We live in a very free and open society - sometimes preyed upon by those who would destroy and kill. Can’t we for a few days stop posturing for the lawsuits and mourn the dead and pray for their families?

"The Southern Baptists have had liberal problems for years..."

After the "conservative takeover" of the Southern Baptist Convention, liberal Baptists formed their own organization called the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship. This group has long existed to be in direct opposition to the Southern Baptists. Up to this point, they have quietly worked within existing Southern Baptist churches - now it looks like they have decided to break off into a totally separate group. This may be the best solution for all involved.
