Fellow Freepers, As you all, collectively, are the smartest folks I could bring this to, I bring you this vanity... Last night, my eighth grade son informed me his history teacher (yes public school, yes I know, the only saving grace is next year he will be in a trade school) told the class that the president could suspend the Constitution in a national emergency. I dutifully told him that was hogwash, pulled out our Constitution and went through the president's Article II rights and duties. Clearly, suspending the Constitution is NOT one of them. I composed a nice email...

Warning: only read this post if you really like a good conspiratorial "inside politics" scenario...😁 Per Article 1 Section 5 of the Constitution, "Neither House, during the Session of Congress, shall, without the Consent of the other, adjourn for more than three days, nor to any other Place than that in which the two Houses shall be sitting." So McConnell fed up with the Kavanaugh contretemps gets the Senate to vote to adjourn till after the midterm elections... BUT Ryan refuses to let the House adjourn, because they are, "doing the people's business." So, the Senate cannot adjourn by this section... BUT This type of...

I found this in an old Saturday Evening Post... editorial entitled "Conservative Candidates Can't Win by Aping the Liberals" by John Chamberlain... "The Delaware facts, then, would seem to show that when Republicans run a "me-too" candidate they lose because their potential supporters stay at home." Have we been this stupid for fifty years?!?!?

Fellow Freepers, I apologize for the vanity, but it's for my wife and I know we have some of the smartest people on the Net here... She was married before me to a foreigner and came to our marriage with a child, who I adopted after the ex waived parental rights for her waiving $3K in back child support. I have never met the man. He was abusive to her and there were restraining orders 7 years ago, now lapsed. She still lives in fear of him potentially kidnapping our son (threats had been made years ago) or coming back...

Sorry for the vanity, wanted to pass on some sentiments from an email from one of our brave men and women serving overseas about the Massachusetts race that I received from a friend: I am wondering about one thing... did Martha Coakley really say that "Al Qaeda no longer exists in Afghanistan." ?  If so, I beg to differ.  Seriously, we could give them another, more politically correct name - call me crazy, but I truly think that most of the insurgents here are still going by Al Qaeda.  Sure, they may have thrown couple ideas around for a new team name while sitting...

I had a couple of minutes at lunch today to ask myself, "What would it take to balance the federal budget in a reasonable amount of time?" My idea of reasonable was 50-100 years, at a 3% interest rate. The governement would have to run surpluses of ~$400B a year each and every year to do this... for Freepers who enjoy variations, every 1% interest rate change is worth about $100B per year. With that as prolouge and understanding that we are running a $1.4T deficit at the moment, I'd like to ask you all for scenarios of what would...

My mother does not believe my daughter has what it takes to be president. It’s not because Mintiwab is only 3. Or that she is more dictator than democrat, ordering her older brothers to play with such withering authority that they begin pouring the pretend tea the moment she barks “Do it.” It’s because Minti was born in Ethiopia. And my mother sides with the provision in the US Constitution that prohibits anyone who is not “natural born” from becoming president. Mom says Minti could one day make a fine governor. Like Arnold. But growing up in Brooklyn amid immigrants...

Having lurked around FR since the Clinton regime and recently joined up, I must thank all of you for providing a great forum for discussion of issues that I find important... I'm sorry for the vanity, but I did want to alert the FR community to something I overheard the other day while in enemy territory (Harvard Square, Cambridge, MA). A certain Harvard Law School professor, previously mentioned prominently for the Supreme Court, Obama supporter and not name Alan is being considered for a "hush hush position promoting Global Justice".
